Pleasance in poison

The person was right!

It has been a few months already and Jay indeed had been paying visits to them at least thrice a month or more sometime voluntarily, for her regular dosages. By dosages, it was surely not any more shoots up through her blood. Nothing which included any kind of serum and injection. No matter how pitiful Jay appeared each time.

Travis never even blinked once when Jay went all on her knees literally begging and pleading for a single vial. He had fumbled a little when Jay was in her raw and fresh trigger of attack and faced him with those burning stares in her eyes, but still maintained his pledge. There was no way he was letting her turn out something ...like that person.

He shouldn't have helped in the first place.

But he couldn't turn back when he had already started it.

Instead, he let her receive the physical blows which wasn't the very perfect cure but prevented her from going all out. The kid was unstable, and needed it often. It wasn't very safe for a young girl like her and almost trembling to watch her take'em so easily all on herself.

...........

Travis never lets the guys overdo themselves.

He keeps a keen eye and stops the action when he thinks that it's enough already. But that day, things went wrong as Jay showed herself when he was out buying smokes. He knew the boys were rough. And when told to give it all out, they won't hold back.

He stood at the entrance of the lane, his expression furious as he stared Jay lying unconscious against the wall and the guys biting nails studying him.

They crossed the limit. But they are not to blame. It was all Travis's orders and they just never knew the limit to follow it. He clenched his fists, gritted his teeth and one small narrowed look gave off the clear vibe to clear out the area.

He stayed back to keep her company till she was awake, occasionally checking on her broken bruised self.

The kid's got a lot of restrain and endurance.

She seems a little different than the usual kind.

A groan brought his mind back to reality. She was waking up. Her face all puckered up, not probably due to the pain but the headache after being completely knocked out! She felt his presence without even looking as she sat still against the support without any word.

- Can I get one too?

- You ain't getting any.

Travis replied as he puffed out a mouth full of smoke without facing her. Whenever she has requested for anything like that he has always ignored. So it was normal for her till the time being since she was just trying it out with no luck.

"All sobered up kid?", he asked with a slow tone with no affection in the words.

"Fuzzy all around", Jay said, "Why are you still here?".

- The boys took it far. I couldn't just leave you in the lane.

Jay sat up properly and stretched out her limbs to ease out the soreness. She wrapped her arms around them and buried her face amongst her knees.

"Is there any reason why are you helping me?", she asked suddenly. Travis was caught off guard. He let out another whirl of dark smoke as he turned his face at her. She didn't look back.

"I just knew a person ...…like yourself", he replied unexpectedly.

- And you let that person off without any help, isn't that the case?

Travis didn't reply. He couldn't.

He had feared this. He knew that this tribe is amazing at some talents which are normal for them to be called one. He did have too. Those amazing hands were almost a miracle for them.

Jay is exactly like that. For her, she predicts anything that has happened, will happen or is happening. She can even tell the next action only by knowing the previous one. Even just a bit. Just like then, she could tell that he let him ruin without offering any help. And finding the same as Jay, he's just acting upon his guilt and trying to mend it without exposing.

"Travis?", Jay called softer this time, her voice like a whisper.

"Hm?", he showed his uninterest, afraid that she might catch up to something deeper.

"Why don't you ever join in what the guys do to me?", another strange bomb dropped on him.

It is true that each time Jay undergo the reviving process, all Travis do is just stand and avoid watching. He had not once participated in it. Not even touched Jay once. He stands motionless like trying to cut off the painful groans coming from her looking away. It seemed to Jay like one of his own personal traumas.

"Do you have a family?", Travis asked unrelated to divert the question. Jay realized it easily but she never inquired and obliged with the often-quiet person who just struck a conversation on his own. She just answered like the obedient she always has been, not bothering with her query any more.

"You can call it one", she said.

- I had a family too. But I had to let it go.

- In other words, they let you leave or kicked you out.

Travis couldn't help but chuckled quietly.

This kid! Really knows things. It saves him the hassle to further explain.

"I'm a street creature now, a useless runt", Travis continued," I live with those guys which are almost as same as me. Live off money from illegal part times but mostly on shots and alcohol and smokes. I threw away a complex but perfect life I had. Having known and seen so much to the limit that I can even believe if a unicorn landed right now, I can't bother tainting my hands anymore. Not anymore than I already have".

Jay looked up at him.

She has always received this aura coming from Travis which made her feel like the aura surrounding her. He wasn't like her or anything, but he knew things about her. Her kind that is! Even if never disclosing, he was helping her by denying the shots and puffs. This feeling, not even Arthur or Chris could emit. The nameless relationship between them is nothing to get rid of so easily.

"I'm pretty sure that your family is not very pleased to find you all bruised up every week of a month, do they?", Travis joked a little.

"You …...", Jay slowly spoke," …...are not a bad guy Travis.", Travis's eyes bulged a little as she uttered those words, "You were just denied the chance. Even though your kind is different from mine, it's pretty much the same at the end".

Jay wasn't looking at him, but felt his gaze all on her. Clearly, he has never came across such words. They were very true, so true that it hurts!!!

Travis looked back down at his shoes and laughed shortly.

He was wrong!!!

Completely wrong.

Jay is such a remarkable person ...…...nothing like him.

Not at all!

She looked right through him.

Even with those unfocussed eyes ...she had a tint of sparkle in them!

It made Travis see hope in her.

She might not get destroyed so easily.

She might turn up to a cure!

She might be able to live!

"Want one?', he offered a smoke to Jay," I can make an exception for today".

Jay shook her head," I'm not a runt like you", she said in a straight tone.

Travis lit another cigarette and laughed at the comment.
