17 Chapter 17: Sweet farming.

The airborne slimes were about to reach their target when, out of thin air, a hairy animal appeared in the middle. This hairy animal was a Wild rat.

Even if they wanted to, the slimes couldn't turn in mid-air, and their target was aware of the fact. That's why Damian had pulled his card and their road blocker, or rather, air blocker, Wild rat out of his inventory.

*Boing! Boing! Boing! Boing!*

One after another, the slimes collided with the Wild rat, sticking to it. Adjusting themselves in between the needle-hair of the Wild rat, the slimes started to lose their round shape, gaining more base as a result. Small tentacles started emerging from the ends of their bodies as the slime slowly expanded on the Wild rat's body.

*Blurb! Blurb! Blurb! Blurb!*

In the next minute, the whole area resounded with the disconcerting sound of the slimes corroding the already dead body.

Peeking from behind a tree, when Damian saw this scene, he sighed in relief. His plan, or rather, bet, had worked. 'It appears that hunting slimes is a difficult task,' he concluded as he walked ahead, a thick stick swinging in his right hand. Following after him was Brave, as dejected as before.

Damian observed the scene carefully, halting his steps more than a meter away from the carcass bathed in the semi-solid slimes.

Holding the body with their small tentacles, the slime had stretched like rubber. With seven slimes interlocking their tentacles, the whole body seemed to be covered in a blanket of translucent blue gel.

*Blurb! Blurb! Blurb! Blurb!*

As if that wasn't enough, the moving slimes followed by the continuous disgusting sound created the scary scene of the blanket raising here and there as if it was alive, corroding the body.

*Phew!*

Taking a deep breath Damian didn't let his reflexes turn his head away; he fought against it, looking at the scary phenomenon with wide eyes. He didn't want to miss a second of the scene that reminded his heart of his new reality, the cruel reality of Serus, that taught his brain that one small mistake was all it took to end his life.

Clenching the thick stick tightly in his hand, Damian stepped back.

"Brave, quick change the enemy and run back." Damian didn't move his eyes away from the body that was starting to lose its shiny needle hairs as he continued to step back.

Reviving her command, Brave's eyes flashed with determination as she lowered her upper body. As she closed her eyes, all the hairs on her body stood up like needles.

*Blurb! Blurb! Blurb! Blurb!*

Under the continuous sound made by the slimes, Brave slowly opened her eyes. In the next moment...

*Zoop!*

*Zoop!*

All Damian's eyes managed to register was something white passing through and back. In the next moment, the body of the Wild rat flew into the air.

*Bam!*

As the body crashed onto the ground, Damian's eyes turned to his right. Looking at Brave, who stood silently in the same place she had started from, Damian displayed an expression of shock.

Seeing her master's shock, Brave had her chest puffed out with pride. Smiling at Brave, who was back to her usual self, Damian turned his head.

*Blurb! Blurb! Blurb! Blurb!*

Looking at the slimes continuing their corroding without a glitch, Damian sighed in relief, 'Looks like the plan would work.' With that thought, Damian stepped forward.

The proud expression on Brave's face disappeared the moment she saw the slimes. Not affected in the least by her charge, her expression plummeted further on hearing her master's sigh.

Unaware of Brave's emotional turmoil, Damian continued advancing. Reaching in front of the body, he raised the stick high in the air, and with all his strength, slammed it down. *Bam!*

*Blurb! Blurb! Blurb! Blurb! Blurb!*

All the slimes did in response to the beating was move faster. Seeing this, Damian's lips cracked a smile, as his hand moved on its own. *Bam!*

The more he beat the slimes, the more they moved with urgency. As a result, the quicker the carcass of the Wild rat corroded, the more Damian's smile grew. The faster and harder he slammed the stick down, the more the slimes moved, the more his lips curled up.

*Crack!*

As the sound of something cracking resounded for the seventh time, the stick covered in blood froze in midair.

*Phew!*

Releasing a deep breath, Damian wiped the beads of sweat on his forehead. Dropping the stick, he massaged his stiff right shoulder as his eyes remained fixed on the body beside him.

Calling it a body would be wrong, very wrong because what once used to be the body of a Wild rat was now nothing more than a pulp of meat, blood, and bones, mixed with the dead bodies of the slimes.

Looking at the gore and disgusting scene that would have left him with nausea for weeks, all Damian had on his face was a happy smile and a thought, 'Now this is sweet and easy farming.'

Damian bent down to pick up the dead slime, unconcerned about the meat paste. Storing the bodies in inventory, he turned around and started walking back to the safe zone. "Let's go, Brave."

Brave was still. Her eyes flashed with determination as they looked around. Her head was about to nod when a hint of confusion passed through her eyes. Turning her head in confusion, she silently followed after her master. Her brain was trying to but wasn't able to process something, something she had decided or was about to decide.

.

"Alright time to check today's progress." With his stomach full of the Wild rat meat and bread, Damian had a satisfied smile on his face as he opened the system panel to his left and right.

«You have killed 7 Slimes!»

«70 experience earned!»

«70 class experience earned!»

«7 spirits collected!»

«Mastery of Basic Swordsmanship: 19.9%»

«Brave has killed 7 Slimes!»

«Brave has earned 70 experience!»

«Brave has collected 7 spirits!»

'Nothing new here.' Laying back on the soft grass, Damian suddenly realized that he had yet to check his status after leveling up. 'There isn't a moment of rest.' Grumbling at the busy day, he opened Brave's status.

There it was Brave's classic natural distribution, which widened the gap between herself and Damian at every level. Damian had begun to envision a future in which he would have to sit back and watch his companions fight like the classic summoners of RPG.

'Hmm... Increase in intelligence? That's new.' He was sure there was no increase in her intelligence the last time Brave had leveled up, nor was it mentioned in the system messages. New questions started to appear in Damian's mind as he considered the peculiar situation.

*Sigh!*

Sighing in the air Damian decided to drop the matter for someday in the future. He had no way of knowing the answer anyway. His unchecked status and the prospect of creating a health potion were calling to him. That's why he quickly dropped the two free stats in Brave's intelligence, bringing it to 10. He was about to move on when...

*Ding!*

«Brave has gained: The ability to think!»

«Law of nature br...»

*Squeeeeak*

Surprised by the sudden turn of events before Damian could read the system message any further, the pained scream of Brave forced his head to the right. And the moment his eyes landed on Brave, they grew wide.
