3 Born to Rule

If anyone was blessed by heavens, it should be Loukas and possibly no one else. Born to the royal family of Tenet, future ruler of the kingdom of Baseliea and the only child of his parents, the King Thadeus and Queen Lanaya. The moment he was born, all the subjects of the kingdom rejoiced for his birth was highly anticipated for more that 15 years. It could be said that the royal family of Tenet was afflicted by a curse, only one child will be born in the ruling family in every generation and the ruling monarch can only reproduce after the 15th year of marriage. And if the ruling monarch failed to produce an heir after the 20th year mark of the royal marria, the royal house of Tenet will fade into oblivion. In every generation, this royal house tried as hard as they could not to embark on that long years of waiting for an heir. A lot of their ancestors in the past tried to obtain a lot of concubines for them to be able to have children but alas, it was not possible. Only their first wife, the Queen could bring them heir. The hitch for this curse was, if the Queen died or the King died before the year mark, the royal house will be no more. And so, every child in each generation for this house is much more precious than anything else in this world. Thus, when Loukas was born the royal house with all the subjects of the kingdom rejoiced and can finally breath a sigh of relief for the royal house still strives to this current generation. So precious Loukas is that every whim and a little bit of fuss that might make the young prince uncomfortable can make the royal household into uproar. He was guarded 24/7 and he has a battalion of servants in him that serves as his limbs. Since the day he was born, not one finger of his was lifted to do anything for himself.

It might have been nice for anyone, utter only a single word and all the things you wish will be granted to you. And yet, this young prince was never happy with what is happening in his life. He feels so suffocated that he once complain to his parents as soon as he can talk but all of his complaints fall only into deaf ears and so as time goes by, Loukas learn to hide his displeasure to anyone and hide his feelings deeply inside that not a single soul can fathom what he is really feeling or what he's thinking. All anyone who bothers to look at the young prince is that his handsome face is always full of smiles.

For the years that follow up to his birth, prince Loukas learned to hide his true self even to his parents. They wanted him to be pampered? So be it. The young crown prince do almost all the things his parents wants him to do and show only the things that people expect on him. He grew up to be a pampered child indeed, a rich and famous pampered child.

This set up continue for 10 years of young Loukas life inside the palace. For fear that something wrong might happen to the prince, both the king and queen forbid him to come with them to royal visits outside the kingdom. Whenever the prince wanted to even go out the palace, almost half the king's guard are accompanying and secured the area days before he even went out. This set up truly irked the young prince and yet he patiently do as what they told him to do.

On his 11th birthday, the young prince beg an audience to his father the king which surprised almost everyone.

Father, i guessed it's high time that I do the duty required by the kingdom of their crown prince. So with your permission as well as the council, I implore you to let me learn the duties of the future monarch of this kingdom.

Daring to look at the king, the young prince implore. But before anyone can react, a single word suddenly explode inside the hall.

NO! said the Queen.

Startled the king and his councilors was slow to react to the sudden outburst did by the Queen.

We still forbid you to do anything that may pose a threat to your royal self our prince. Softly said the Queen for she herself was shocked by her sudden quip.

Forgive me your Highness for I speak out of turn. The king sigh for he understands where the Queen is coming from.

Loukas knew full well that this will happen but he didn't dare to miss this opportunity.

How can I become a competent head of this kingdom if I can never learn first hand how a monarch should do? Father also learn the ropes of his duties and responsibilities when he was 10 and yet here I am, an incompetent crown prince with 11 years of his life not knowing anything.

And what is the uses of your many tutors? They were placed in your care for you to learn were they not? Loukas knew her mother won't back down easily and he also knew that with his mother known to be strong headed there is no one aside from his father who can make her bow. Pleadingly, the young prince look expectedly to the king.

Perhaps it is high time for the crown prince to start doing what he is supposed to do. By my power as the king, you Loukas of the house Tenet, crown prince of Baseliea order you to start fulfilling your responsibility to this kingdom. With that, the king stand up from his dais and strode out the hall. He knows full well that he incurred the wrath of the Queen but he also knew that they can never stop the flow of time for sooner or later, their son will sit too on the throne and nothing can protect him but him alone.
