2 The day my life began

I sat atop the deck of the great ship my father had built for my first official journey to the fairy kingdom. We met once a year to provide them with a special metal only harvested in our kingdom but which is essential to form new fairies. They, in return would provide total control of our elements in the form of volunteer fairies who would come over and fulfill this promise for one year. This year as prince I was doing this solo and really just wanted it over with. I could already see the face of the queen and tried to practice the smile my father had showed me but it seemed impossible.

Once the ships had landed I sighed and walked across to the platform where the queen was stood. I knelt and missed the emerald ring she had on her finger. She smiled and invited me into her carriage waiting to take me to the palace. I helped her in then stepped in after knowing that now was the worst bit, riding through the crowds of excitable fairies.

As we rode through I stared at the fairies they had always scared me a little. They lived in a world of magic and beauty yet lived such normal lives as an elf he wished he had access to that magic, it was a gift he'd never enjoy. Towards the outskirts of the crowd, I suddenly saw the most beautiful gem. She had wings that looked like slices of a diamond and hair that flowed like molten silver down her slim frame she was watching excitedly. Her dress was a beautiful grey it came to just a above her knee and the top hugged her waist perfectly. I couldn't rip much eyes off her. Noticing the queens gaze I snapped back to reality but when I looked at her she was simply smiling.
