127 Breakup

The sound of the wilderness is all around you.

Crickets can be heard chirping,

Owls can be heard hooting,

All of the sounds from the city have just disappeared.

It's such a beautiful sound.

It's rare for me to get out into nature and enjoy such a beautiful experience. I'm going to treasure this past evening for the rest of my life. My boyfriend had planned a date for the two of us you see, he is just perfect. His name is Brian, he has dark brown hair that looks just like chocolate. His face is a bit round looking like he still has some baby fat still on it. In my opinion, his best feature has got to be his eyes. They are a beautiful hazel, I could just lose myself staring into them.

He took me to a lake in the middle of nowhere. The water looked so clean, unlike the small ponds you see in the middle of the city. There wasn't any trash in the water, not a piece of plastic in sight. Reflecting on the water was the beautiful full moon giving the place a feeling of serenity. Brian and I walked around the lake for awhile just to admire the beauty that nature had to give us.

As we went around the lake we found ourselves near an old boathouse. It looked like it was on its last leg. Most of the roof had come off along with part of the siding. Brian was adamant about going inside saying he had a surprise for me. I followed him reluctantly as I was unsure about going inside. I wouldn't be surprised if the wind could knock it over. It was just as bad on the inside as it was on the outside, but what was in the water caught my attention. There was a boat floating on the water. He had prepared a small picnic for us out on the water.

Brian drove us out into the water and showed me what to look out for. On the other side of the boathouse are these huge rocks that go up onto the shore. If you are not careful you could easily hit one of them and sink a boat. The biggest of the rocks is right where the water meets the shore. It wasn't too jagged and could easily be used as a seat. If it wasn't so chilly I would have sat on the rock and put my feet into the water, the idea felt so relaxing.

We sat on the boat, ate, and had a good time. Everything was great, well at least I thought so anyway. The evening started to go downhill once we started to walk back to the car.

I was looking at Brian and couldn't help but notice that something was off.

" Is everything alright?" I asked inquisitively. He seemed to be looking at everything except for me. " Did I do something wrong?" I asked him to try to get some kind of reply from him. He turned towards me and stared me right in the eye and told me the worst thing imaginable " I think we need to take a break from one another."

I couldn't help but look at him in shock. " What, Why?" I asked frantically, " Was it something I did?" I thought the night went perfectly so why is he breaking up with me? " Look Emma," he said "It's not you, it's me. I need some time to think about what is best for me, and I'm not sure if this is what I want."

There I said it.

I just hope that she takes it well.

The past couple of months have been okay, but I just can't help but feel that there is something off. I'm not sure what it is about her, but the longer I'm with her the stronger that feeling becomes. She doesn't say anything, all she does is stare at me with those big green eyes of hers'. I know I might have hurt her, but I have to stand my ground on this. "I'm sorry," I tell her "but I don't see this relationship going anywhere. This is for the best." As soon as those words left my mouth it was like the whole world just stopped.

The owl stopped hooting,

The crickets stopped chirping,

All that was left was an eerie silence.

Emma looked at me with a wild look in her eyes, she looked practically feral. " Come on," I tell her, "Let's get in the car, and I'll drive you home." I'm on my way towards the car when she starts to speak. " I am the best thing that has ever happened to you! What gives you the right to be able to break it off like this!" She screams at me with a harsh shrill in her voice.

Emma comes up behind me and says seductively in my ear, " I guess if I can't have you, I'll have to make sure no one will." The next thing I know I feel a sharp pain in my head and everything just faded to black.

When I woke up my eyesight was blurry, I felt dizzy, and the only thing I recognized around me was the old boathouse. My only light came from the full moon up overhead giving off a dim glow to my surroundings. I was alone, Emma was nowhere in sight. I tried to use my hands to push myself up off the ground, but I was unable to move them. Squinting my eyes I looked down and found that my hands and feet were tied together.

I fiddled with the ties and found them to be kind of loose and with some effort, I was able to get free. I quickly, but carefully got off of the floor and headed towards the door. Every step was discombobulating, I could hardly keep myself from falling into the lake. Once I got out of the boathouse I looked around at my surroundings and unfortunately caught sight of Emma. She was walking from the car with one of my weights in her hand. I didn't want to see what she planned to do with that and tried to leave without her noticing.

If I wasn't so unstable I probably would have gotten away from her. As soon as I started walking away from the boathouse I tripped over a rock and fell face flat onto the ground. The thump from my fall alerted her to my presence and she rushed over to me. I picked myself up off the ground and bolted away hoping to get away from her. Unfortunately, she was a lot faster than she looked.

Emma caught up to be in no time at all and started swinging the weight at me. She hit me in the abdomen and knocked me down to the ground. She tried to pin me down to the ground, but she was unable to get me to stay in one place. We tossed and turned on the ground and somehow ended up in the lake.

During our struggle, I was able to get the weight out of her hand and into my own. I wanted no part of this and tried to get up and leave, but Emma kept on dragging me back into a fight. At this point, I had finally had enough and ended up hitting her back. She came back at me full force scratching, kicking, and screaming. Doing whatever she could to get an advantage over me. I swung my hand out to defend myself and heard a sicking crack.

In that handheld the weight that she had previously used to bludgeon me with. The weight hit her temple and she went crashing down on top of one of the biggest rocks I have ever seen. I stared at her in shock unable to understand what had just happened. All of my adrenaline had left my body and I was unable to move.

She laid there motionless in the water amongst the rocks. Blood was gushing out of her head flowing into the water making the water look like unmixed kool-aid. I tenderly reached down and checked her pulse. It was as I feared, she was dead.

I whisper to myself in horror " What on earth have I just done? "

It was at that moment that everything came back to me.

The sounds of the wilderness are all around me.

Crickets were chirping,

Owls were hooting,

All of the sounds from the city have just disappeared.

No one is here, and no one has to know.
