7 10 Years Later

10 years passed by in a flash. Luckily, for Damien, there were no more incidents like the one with Chris. He had sued the company that had sent over Chris and won by a large margin. Artemis continued to develop her both her intellect and skills rapidly. She had mastered the same languages that Damien knew and often even helped Damien make business decisions. She was a brilliant teenager.

She never told Damien about what actually happened to Chris and the autopsy just showed that he had died due to rapid dehydration. It was labeled as a natural death with natural causes. Artemis had learned that she had the power to control the life of any living creature. She never used her power beyond trying to cure some animals that were hurt near the house like several birds and small mammals. The only reason that she killed Chris was because Chris directly threatened Damien. Artemis was never in any danger in that situation, but she didn't like to see Damien in distress, so she acted.

Damien had started taking self-defense classes with her as a way to help her learn some fighting skills. "Artemis, would you like to learn to shoot? I've always wanted to take shooting classes since I was a kid!" Damien enthusiastically asked Artemis.

"Sure Dad. I would like to learn to shoot. It could be fun!" Artemis smiled. She had mastered jujitsu and karate and felt that it was time to increase her repertoire.

"Alfred, is the shooting range completed and stocked yet?" Damien turned and asked Alfred. Alfred was in charge of the estate and knew the progress of projects that were ongoing.

"Yes sir! If you want to head over there, I can ask the head of security to help teach you and young miss?" Alfred replied quickly. The head of security was a green beret veteran from the Vietnam War. He had a variety of experience and was recognized for 17 confirmed kills as a sniper. He would be an exceptional shooting instructor.

"Sure, that sounds good! Please lead the way Alfred," Damien requested.

"Thanks for setting this up Dad and Alfred! I know that you guys always take care of me. When will I have a chance to help you?" Artemis felt loved. She knew that this family would always look out for her.

"Come on! You are already a great help to me in the last two business deals. If you hadn't taken a look, we would have partnered with the wrong companies in Russia and France. Some of these companies have too deep of a connection to the criminal world and somehow you just sniffed it out. I'm still reeling from your ability to notice minute details!" Damien laughed. He truly believed that Artemis didn't need to contribute at her age. She should just enjoy her life as a teenager. But often, fate has different plans for us that we expect.
