11 Chapter 11

~ One week later ~

"Yes!" I whisper breathlessly, wiping my filthy hands on my sweats before dragging the huge duffel bag out from under the tree.

Due to hiding it many years ago, the tree has grown making it harder to dig out but after a couple of hours I managed it. Removing the plastic bag that I'd wrapped around it to keep it clean, I swing the handle over my shoulder and dust my knees off as I set off in the direction I came.

It's been almost a week since the whole Kyle thing, in that time I've mostly stayed in the woods, trying to figure out what to do next. For the most part I just cried, none stop for about four days, until sense kicked in and I realised that I had to figure something out.

So here I am, in the middle of the mountains digging up money like it's a long lost treasure map. As much as I hate being alone, I learnt a very long time ago that adapting quickly is the best shot a wolf can have at survival. The worst part about being alone, is getting used to the fact that he's not here anymore, Kyle isn't ever going to be part of my life.

Sighing, I shake off the thought and hurry back to human society. As much as I dislike humans and their cities, I have no where else to go. I've been a lone wolf since I was a teenager, having no pack makes it a lot harder for my wolf to feel at ease. Humans put us on edge, right now we're going to have to suck it up and deal with it.

Eventually I reach the human city, almost a hundred miles from Kyle, which is a bonus. Yes, I have travelled on foot for the past week, it's a lot easier when you're not human.

Scoping out a clothes shop, I purchase a few outfits, including toiletries before grabbing food and heading to find a hotel. Being in a large city makes that rather easy, given that there's about ten hotels on every street.

Picking a random one, I check into a double room and head straight for a shower. Dropping my bags on the bed, I strip off my clothes and jump under the hot water, rinsing off all the dirt and grime from this weeks travels. As a wolf it doesn't bother me as much to be filthy, not when I'm outside anyway.

Scrubbing my body and hair, I ensure my skin is sparkling clean before getting out. Double brushing my teeth, I finally sit on the bed and eat the food, barely tasting it as I shovel it down my neck.

It's not pretty, but hey, who am I trying to please right?

When I'm done, I kick the bags off the bed and lay down to get some sleep. Figuring I'll sort out everything else tomorrow.

New day, new life, new me.

Fixing my outfit, I ensure I have all my legal documents with me along with the keys before exiting the room.

Today I plan to leave the human city for good, the noise and smells are overpowering. I fully understand why wolves stay clear of cities, most wolves anyway. After purchasing a phone from a nearby store, I played around with it and figured out how to search for homes. Turns out there's many houses for sale in the city, not so many near the woods outside the city. It took me a while, but I found a small two bedroom house surrounded by the woods, perfect for someone like me.

Heading down to the real estate agency that the house belongs to, I walk inside and up to the man at his desk.

"Hi, I'm interested in one of your properties, it's a new built on the south side located next to the woods?" I say, offering a small smile.

The human glances over my attire quickly, before offering me a smile.

"Have a seat, I think I know which one you're talking about. Blue door, right?" The man asks, his tone completely professional as I sit across from him.

I nod, silent as I wait.

"Two bedrooms, one open space bathroom, medium sized living area, large kitchen, a laundry room, plus two storage rooms and a dining room." The man double checks with me as he reads whatever it says on the screen.

I nod. "It's still available right?"

"Yes ma'am, luckily there's been no others interested due to the distance from the shops." The man smiles.

"Great, what happens now?" I question, not particularly having a clue as to what to do now. Does he need ID, or just money?

"Firstly, we need to discuss a plan of payment." The man starts, reaching into his desk drawer.

"Will cash be ok?" I ask, hoping it'll be fine.

The mans eyebrows shoot up a little in surprise. "The full amount?"

"Yes, is that a problem?" I question, tilting my head. The human clears his throat, shaking his head as he shuts his drawer.

"No, not at all. I'll need your details, given that you're buying outright, you should have a percentage taken off. If all goes well, you should sign within the next few days and the house will be yours. Shall we get started?" The human smiles, seemingly more eager.

"Adrielle Parker." I state, sliding over my documents that I'd made sure are still valid.

The agent takes my details thoroughly, asking tons of questions before we finally get to the payment. Luckily I'd already counted out the amount id need today, plus a little extra just in case.

Opening up my small suitcase, I take out the briefcase inside, sliding it over to the man.

"Feel free to count it, every penny is there and more." I say, watching the mans reaction as he opens it up. I suspect he might never have been so close to so much money, given the way his eyes light up.

"For security reasons I'm obliged to check it, if you'll follow me." The man smiles, closing the case and gesturing me to follow him.

It takes almost a whole hour before the agent is finally done with his checks and questions. He gives me a number and some leaflets, telling me he'll be in contact soon to tell me when the documents will be ready to sign.

Knowing that there's no chance of them turning me down, I exit the agency with a smile, pulling my empty suitcase behind me as I walk down the street. Due to having a lot of money left over due to the percentage I was giving back for buying outright, I have enough left to easily buy everything I need. Plus, there's a ton more left at the hotel, which id hidden in with the fresh towels knowing the maids won't look there.

So for the next few hours I go from shop to shop, picking out my new home as if it's just toys. Choosing the specific day delivery option, I pick next Friday, which gives me seven days, enough time to wait until the house is mine.

Mine, my home. The thought is strange, for it's something I haven't had in a long time.

Later that night I head back to the hotel, stripping out of my classy dress and heels, settling into comfortable shorts and a jumper.

All I have to do now is wait.
