16 My Lie in April (September, Actually. But You Get the Reference)

Mo Aini was struck by a flashback of the scene of him kneeling in the rain.

"Hu Chuntian, please! Don't chase after my sister! Chase after me instead!"

That's what he said while hugging Hu Chuntian's thigh desperately and pathetically!

Mo Aini wanted to bury himself six feet on the ground. Why does he have to bring that up!? His dignity is ruined to bits!!!

"Did you have amnesia and forgot about it?" Hu Chuntian grinned. "Don't worry, I can recall it word for word. You said: Hu Chuntian, please! You are my world! I can't lose you to my sister!"

His classmates turned their heads, eyes wide from shock from their conversation.

Hu Chuntian's face was as thick as the Great Wall. "Oh, Hu Chuntian, it would kill me! I could not let you end up with my sister, it would kill me!"

"Shut the fuck up!" Mo Aini covered the delinquent's annoying mouth.

The teacher stopped speaking. "Is there something wrong back there? Mr. Mo? Mr. Hu?"

"Nothing, sir!" Mo Aini smiled. "I'm just reminding Hu Chuntian to keep quiet in class. A fly might go inside that wide mouth of his, hehe!"

"Well, you keep quiet too." The teacher reprimanded him and turned back to writing on the blackboard.

Mo Aini spoke in a hush but angry tone. "Damn you! Now you'll get me into trouble too!"

Hu Chuntian licked his palm!

"Yuck! Are you insane?" He flicked his hand with disgust and wiped it on his shirt.

"Your palms are sweaty." Hu Chuntian licked his lips in a sultry manner. "I can taste it."

"Stop with the bullshit, Hu Chuntian!" Mo Aini scowled at him.

"What happened to 'A-Tian' this, 'A-Tian' that?" The delinquent's blue eyes flickered with amusement.

"You told me to stop calling you that." Mo Aini said. "You told me that it's better off that we don't have anything to do with each other. So why are you bothering me?"

Hu Chuntian opened his mouth to speak, but the teacher interrupt him and said to the class, "Open your books to page 143 and start answering the exercises there. You have 15 minutes, and I will be checking your answers."

"Hold it, I'm doing my tasks. You do yours." Mo Aini said, and took out his workbook and pencil.

"I haven't answered your question yet—"

"Shut up, I'm focusing here!" Mo Aini kept his eyes glued on the workbook and ignored Hu Chuntian, silently hoping that this was all a dream or that the game system was glitching.

------------

It was not a glitch. Hu Chuntian followed him at the end of the class, to the lockers, to the hallways, and even the bathroom.

"What's your problem?" Mo Aini was ignoring him, but he finally had enough. "Are you bored since my sister didn't choose you? If you're bored, go play with someone else! I'm not that desperate."

Hu Chuntian wore his signature bastard smirk. "I thought you're willing to be desperate and pathetic for me."

Mo Aini's hand faltered over the doorknob, "Not anymore."

Hu Chuntian's eyes slightly widened. "Oh? You don't like me anymore?"

Mo Aini gulped. "Yeah, so leave me alone. I'm trying to move on by looking for men who actually like men—"

A male student got out, and his mouth hung open when he heard this.

"What are you looking at!? It'll never be you anyway! Get outta here, stupid!" Mo Aini raised a hand at the male student and he quickly left.

"So where would you look?" Hu Chuntian crossed his arms and leaned on the tiled wall when they entered the bathroom. "Here? Good luck having anyone let you inside the men's bathroom when you tell them you're interested in men."

"It's none of your business, okay!? I'm done with you. So leave me alone!" Mo Aini yelled and went in front of the urinal, unzipping his pants. He stopped when Hu Chuntian just stayed there, staring at him.

"What the fuck, I said leave! I'm going to pee here!" Mo Aini knitted his eyebrows in annoyance. "Are you going to just stand there and watch me pee!?"

"Maybe I will."

Mo Aini wanted to cough up blood from anger and disgust.

"Shit, you're a real nuisance, aren't you? Fuck this, I'm peeing at the stall!" He went inside one of the bathroom stalls and slammed the door.

"I'll wait here till you're done." He could hear Hu Chuntian's teasing voice. "I won't peek, I promise."

"Fuck all your ancestors! Are you planning to annoy me to death?" Mo Aini cursed.

"Are you done yet? Once you're done, let's go have lunch." Hu Chuntian said.

"As if I'm going to have lunch with you!" Mo Aini yelled, angrily zipping his pants back up. He flushed the toilet and when he opened the door, he was greeted by a cloud of smoke.

"Cough! Cough! Fucking smoker*!" He waved away Hu Chuntian's annoying face.

Hu Chuntian quirked his lips that have a Marlboro Red in place. "Why did you move on so fast, Mo Aini? It's only been a few days. Are your feelings that weak?"

(It was all a lie, dude! I had to lie to survive!)

"I was really hurt by your rejection." Mo Aini reasoned. "What, should I like you forever? I'm not some martyr that will die with gray hair waiting for you to like me back."

"Yet you didn't even wait for me. Where's your determination?"

Mo Aini washed his hands and flicked the water onto Hu Chuntian. "I said, I'm done with you. I don't like you anymore. I want to cut you off from my life entirely. Is that too much to ask?"

"Yes. Because it doesn't make any sense." Hu Chuntian dropped his cigarette butt and stomped on it. The smoke cleared up, and Mo Aini can now see that he was frowning. "Why did you forget about me so easily, Mo Aini? After saying all those things, after forcefully kissing me, why did you just disappear?"

"You're asking me to take responsibility for my actions or something? I already said I'm sorry." Mo Aini left the men's bathroom with an incredulous smile. "Do you want me to kneel and apologize again?"

"That won't be enough." Hu Chuntian said.

"Then what do you want? Just get it over with!" Mo Aini pushed the delinquent on the shoulder, slamming him against the wall. "Hu Chuntian, I'm tired of this shit. Don't I deserve to have a peaceful life?"

"You're living peacefully now, but what about me?" Hu Chuntian's expression was unreadable. "I can't sleep for the whole week. The girl I like got stolen from me, and I can't let out this pent-up rage and shame from what happened. I keep feeling that it's all your fault."

"Then beat me up! Let's fight, right here and now! But stop playing with me!" Mo Aini challenged him. His build may not be as good as Hu Chuntian, but he's a little taller.

By like, 1 centimeter, but he's too angry to think straight.

"That's not what I want to do with you." Hu Chuntian said.

"Then what do you want with me!?"

"I don't know."

Mo Aini's grip on his shoulders loosened. "The fuck, you don't know?"

"I just want to follow you around. I wanted to see you. I never wanted to stay in school before, but I wanted to see you." Hu Chuntian admitted. "I don't know why...."

Mo Aini let him go, staring at the floor. Hu Chuntian sounded so sincere. It was completely unlike him. Yet somehow, in his heart, he felt it made sense. Logically, it doesn't.

It was all too confusing and frustrating.

"I'm going to eat with my friends. Until you know the answer to why you want to chase after me so much, don't bother me." Mo Aini told him, and left.

Hu Chuntian wanted to reach out, but it felt out of character for him. Why was he like this? Mo Aini was right, he was the one who rejected him.

Was it because he doesn't care what anyone else feels, and just likes to do what he wants? Was it because he was bored, and want to play with Mo Aini's feelings? He was a bad person after all.

Yet why does it feel like it was something else?

Mo Aini sure is.... something else entirely.

He had come to this realization, and everything started to make sense.

----------------

Mo Aini joined Shu Chuanli, She Haoran, and Wang Jing at the table.

"You seem infuriated." The perceptive student council president noticed.

"Yeah, you look pissed." Shu Chuanli agreed. "What happened?"

"A bastard was bothering me." Mo Aini said, sulking with his orange juice.

"Shu Chuanli told us about it. Was it Hu Chuntian?" Wang Jing said.

Over the course of the week, the four of them had grown close to each other. It started when Wang Jing wanted to observe Mo Aini because of his 'blackmail' to She Haoran. Shu Chuanli noticed and offered them to join their table.

Then they became friends. Simple as that. They have a lot of common things to talk about, especially Gou Manchu and Mo Jiagei's very quick and abrupt relationship. All of them agreed that they are the cheesiest couple to ever exist in Nushen.

"If he was getting too troublesome, you may have to report him for misbehavior." She Haoran offered. "I could help you with that."

"I don't want to go through so much trouble just for one annoying delinquent." Mo Aini shook his head.

"I could stand guard for you." Wang Jing showed her cutter again.

"Seriously, it's okay! Take that away, Wang Jing! You're really scary when you hold that!" Mo Aini said. "Besides, don't you two have duties at the student council? Focus on the election or something, I can handle my own problems."

"We're just worried about you, Mo Aini." Shu Chuanli said. "We all know what Hu Chuntian was like. It's best if you just avoid and ignore him for now, he's no good for you."

"Who's no good for who?"

A raised foot slammed on their table.

Mo Aini gripped the ends of his hair. "I just told you to stop bothering me if you don't—"

"I know now why I want to chase after you, Mo Aini."

Mo Aini turned to him with wide eyes as he delivered these words with a sincere expression:

"I like you. I want to pursue you."
