40 rock, paper, scissors

Knock, knock.

Jaemin diverts his gaze to the door that leads to his room upon hearing faint knocks. He narrows his eyes in an attempt to see the face of the person who was knocking through the small glass window.

It was afternoon already. He just finished having his lunch and the nurse had just left his room to return the utensils he used; he just had his medicine for his headaches, too, so it couldn't be the nurse again. Nevertheless, Jaemin decided to let the person in by saying, "The door is open."

The door slid open, revealing his best friend, Renjun.

"Injun!"

Jaemin beamed happily as he carefully stood up from his bed to greet his friend, but before he can even turn around to face Renjun, he was greeted by a pair of arms. It caught Jaemin off his guard causing him to stumble a few steps back. His eyes grew wide in surprise as he stared at his front door, Renjun was still standing with a grin across his lips, together with a unfamiliar lad standing besides him who was suppressing his laughter. If it wasn't Renjun, then who-

"I missed you, ge!"

The lad who was hugging him chirped in delight. The brunet was frozen in spot but he instinctively hugged the person in return. He couldn't quite decipher who the person is just yet, but it felt familiar to him; the voice, the cheeriness of its tone yet its delicateness that resembles a flower petal; the oddly familiar scent of flowers, of freshly picked roses..

"C-Chenle?" Jaemin mutters, carefully pulling himself away from the hug. He has to know who it is, he has to know if it is indeed, Chenle.

The boy met gazes with Jaemin, his eyes began to gloss as a smile creeps its way to his coral tiers.

"You remember, ge."

Chenle was overwhelmed and extremely happy to see that despite all the years, Jaemin didn't forget about him after all. He knew that because of Jaemin's condition, it can be complicated for him to remember things, to remember people and past events that have occur. It was also the reason why he wanted to decorate the flowers for Jaemin on his own. He wanted Jaemin to see that he was slowly achieving his goals, even if they could not meet nor see each other.

"Oh my gosh, it's really you, Chenle?!" Jaemin gasps in disbelief.

Renjun smiled at the sight. It was the first time Chenle meets Jaemin after so many years. It must have been hard for the boy. Renjun knew that both Jaemin and Chenle had it hard. They were unable to see each other in person and neither of them could do anything to meet each other because of different reasons. Jaemin and Chenle were reunited again, finally. It was a heartwarming sight, indeed.

"Hey, Jisung. Don't you think it's sweet?" Renjun whispers, gently nodding Jisung with his elbow.

"H-huh? Ah.. yes, it is. It feels like two people being reunited again, after such a long time." Jisung admits, nodding his head gently.

"Well, I'll tell you what. It's been years." Renjun paused, chuckling. "It'd be unfair if only the two of them are the only one having fun, don't you think? Come on, let's join them!" Renjun laughs as he jogs his way towards the two, joining in the group hug while comforting Chenle who started crying out of joy.

"But Jaemin doesn't even know me yet.." Jisung mutters to himself as he slowly approaches the three, a small smile across his lips as he stared at them in adoration. He barely knows Chenle and Jaemin, but seeing how strong their bond and friendship is despite the amount of years that they were separated from each other, he couldn't help but be fond of the sight. Perhaps it wasn't a bad idea to come with Chenle and Renjun, after all.

"You didn't tell me you'd be coming along with other people today, Injun.. I didn't even expect you'd visit me today."

Jaemin purses his lips into a pout after they pulled away from the hug. Chenle remained by his side, eyes red and puffy.

Renjun snickers as he shrugs his shoulders. "Well, everything happened unexpectedly. And I think it was a good thing that you were clueless. You rarely get other people aside from me to visit you ever since other people stopped visiting, so I think a surprise wouldn't be too bad."

"I also brought a friend of mine along. He's Jisung." Renjun continues, motioning to Jisung who was standing besides the coffee table.

"Hello. I'm Jisung and I'm a year behind Chenle. It is a pleasure to meet you.. Ah! I would also like to apologise if I came uninvited! I can take my leave if I'm making things uncomfortable for all of you." Jisung bows shyly. He was ready to leave the room so that the three can catch up with ease. As kind as it was for Renjun to invite him along, he didn't want to seem like he's just bothering them.

"Oh, there's no need to apologise, really! I don't mind having new visitors. It's quite nice, honestly. People stopped visiting me since last year, I guess they eventually grew tired? Haha! But it's okay. I can't force everyone to stay if they no longer want to. I'm Jaemin, by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you, too, Jisung." Jaemin beams as he approaches the boy, with his hand reaching out. But instead of receiving a handshake in return, Jisung countered with his hand resembling the form of a scissor, causing Jaemin to look at him, dumbfounded.

Jisung frantically realises what he did and thought he should explain, "Ah, I'm sorry! It has been a habit of mine.. Well, sort of. I kind of like, see it as playing rock, paper, scissors.." The boy lowers his head in embarrassment when he suddenly heard the brunet laugh.

"Well, if that's the case then I'm not giving in without a fight. I won't let you win against me, Jisung!"
