Start of Exams

2 years later -

Takuya had turned 14 during his last year of junior high, and now he was ready to go for UA High. Even though he has spent the last few years training on his own he didn't feel like he had really gotten too much better. He never even came close to the amount of power he used when he was eight. It was too late to be worried however as he was on his way to UA to take the entrance exams.

He had gotten up early so that he could quickly go over all the material he had thought might be on the written exam. He had been studying for the exams since the beginning of junior high when he decided that he wanted to go to UA.

He got a little carried away that morning and was going to be late. In order to save time he decided to use his quirk to run a decent bit faster than normal. He was dashing through the streets on the shortest path he could find. He went through dark alleys that cut through groups of buildings to get where he wanted to go as fast as he could. There were a few time he had to apologize to other pedestrians as he ran past, he managed to knock a few people over. That didn't stop him however as he just shouted an apology and kept running.

He ran all the way to the hero high school with more time than he thought he could manage to spare. Instead of being late, he seemed to be arriving at the same time as a lot of other people.

He glanced up at the gargantuan building in front of him and smiled. It strangely kind of looked like more of an office than a school to him, but that didn't matter. He was excited to go. Just as he looked down from the school's main building he saw a plain, green-haired boy trip and start to fall a distance in front of him.

'That's gonna hurt' Takuya thought to himself.

Suddenly a girl touched the plain boy and he started to float. He started screaming, then he stopped as the girl said something to him and lifted him up before he dropped to a standing position.

Takuya stopped paying attention and started walking forward toward the school. He saw a sign that pointed him in the direction of the of where the exam was to take place. He pulled open the doors to the school and walked inside.

After following a few more signs and the groups of other exam takers, he found himself in a huge auditorium. He took as seat in one of the seemingly hundreds of chairs and waited. The lights in the huge room flicked on and a voice called out loudly,

"For all you examinee listeners tuning in, welcome to my show today!"

It was a popular hero, Present Mic. He wore a black leather jacket, strange yellow sunglasses, and headphones. His hair was a bright yellow, fairly long, and gelled to shoot backwards and up. He tried multiple times to get the students to cheer out different things. They all seemed either too nervous or annoyed to indulge him.

After pulling himself together he started telling everyone about how the practical exam was going to work.

"Then I'll quickly present to you the rundown on the practical exam!"

He then again tried to get the students to shout out something. No one did.

"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting ten-minute mock urban battles after this! You can bring whatever you want with you. After the presentation you'll head the the specified battle center, okay?"

As he was explaining, stylized designs depicting what he was saying flashed across a massive screen behind him.

Takuya saw people around him pull out a slip of paper they were given before they entered the auditorium. He pulled out his own. It said:

- Exam Ticket -

- Examinee No.: 2059 -

- Test Location: Battle Center G -

It also had other things like his name and the date. He looked back at Present Mic as he started talking again.

"Three different types of faux villains are stationed in each battle center. You earn points for each of them based on their level of difficulty. Your goal, dear listeners, is to use your quirks to earn points by immobilizing the faux villains. Of course, attacking other examinees and any other unheroic actions are prohibited!"

Suddenly a student shouted out a question about how on the papers they were given there were four enemies listed instead of the three presented. He also started to go on a rant about how it was a disgrace that UA would make a mistake. Takuya looked at the student annoyed. This guy seemed pretty stuck-up. Then the student started complaining about how someone near him was muttering during the presentation. Takuya couldn't see who he was talking about and also didn't really care. He already didn't like this guy. Present Mic then began to thank the student for pointing the fourth enemy out. He went on to explain that the last villain type was worth zero points and was to be avoided as it was only an obstacle. The student apologized for interrupting and sat down. Takuya disliked him just a little bit less.

'At least he's polite'

Then Present Mic went on to tell the examinees the school's motto to wish them good luck.

"Finally, I'll give you listeners a present, our school motto! The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: 'A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes.' Go beyond."

Present Mic then looked straight up and shouted,

"PLUS ULTRA!"

He then wished everyone good luck. All the examinees then filed out of the auditorium. Everyone went and changed into more comfortable attire for the exam. Takuya put on a white t-shirt with light blue stripes going down the shoulders and sleeves, as well as some loose shorts with a similar look. Then everyone went outside the building where there were multiple different buses that supposedly took everyone to the different battle centers. Takuya found the one that goes to Battle Center: G and entered. He got in a seat and waited. After just a few seconds a small boy with strange purple hair sat next to him. Takuya without thinking looked straight at the weird little balls on the boy's head. He then noticed that the boy was shaking.

"You okay?"

The boy, still shaking uncontrollably, slowly looked at Takuya.

"I'm not gonna make it."

Takuya was confused as to why this kid would even come to become a hero if he's scared of a fake fight.

"If you can't even handle the practical exam, then why did you even come to become a hero? No offense."

"I didn't want to be a hero to fight people, I just want to get all the ladies to love me."

Takuya even though thinking it was a stupid reason to want to be a hero didn't say anything. He went to look forward as the bus was about to leave. Then the boy began to talk to him again,

"I'm Mineta Minoru, who are you? I wanna at least have someone know who I was before I died."

"Yamashita Takuya, and you aren't gonna die."

Mineta didn't say anything else and Takuya didn't look at him but could hear sniffling beside him.

'Really?'

A few minutes later the bus stopped in front of a massive concrete wall with a huge metal door in the center. After the people in front of him got out of the bus he walked toward the massive metal door. A couple of students began to talk about how crazy it was that UA could get an entire model city built even once, let alone for seven different groups. Suddenly a loud shout was heard,

"GO"

There wasn't even a countdown. Takuya looked to see everyone running toward the now open door. He immediately shot ahead of everyone using his quirk to boost himself. Now to just look for some enemies for points.
