85 Event: Back To The Past!

(POV Sasuke)

It was simple, very simple. Ambush the target when he arrives a the ruins.

See? Simple, effective, and capable of being executed by every civilian with half a brain… or at least it should have been.

The moment they had been ready to spring the trap, Mukade had noticed Naruto and immediately took off with surprising speed. I felt the need to bang my head against the wall as only during the pursuit had I noticed how conspicuous Naruto actually was. His bright blonde hair combined with his ridiculous orange shinobi attire was like a sore thumb.

'Once we get back, I am burning his wardrobe.' – Something that was now possible seeing as Naruto also lived on the Uchiha district… not to mention, I felt like my brother would give me a thumbs up if I actually went and did it.

A smile made its way to my face as we arrived at the ruins, noticing the silhouette of Mukade as he made his way into the ruins.

(MC POV)

I was carefully looking at the deployment orders for my troops, looking for ways that the enemy would make my measures ineffective, and coming up with quite an impressive list of scenarios, most of them with less than 5% feasibility of happening. A good way of improving given the fact that I had Shikaku leave ahead of time to make adjustments to our plans in accordance with the actual condition of the terrain.

This sadly left my current self with quite the lack of subordinates actually gifted with superior intelligence.

As I had nothing better to do, I raced my mind, straining it to consider all the events that had happened and I had put in motion… attempting to predict what 'event' was going to happen next… and failing spectacularly as I felt a massive release of chakra.

'Now that I think about it, it has been four days since Sasuke left… almost overlooked that little fact.' – I thought to myself as my expression set to a frown.

Then for the first time in quite a while, the system propped a window in front of me.

[Event Started: Back To The Past.]

[A rare opportunity has presented itself, allowing you the opportunity to go back to the past. Do be warned though, as a foreign entity to this world, different rules apply to you. Making the most of it, ultimately rests upon your shoulders.

WARNING! This is not the first nor the last time this world has come under the effects of people meddling with its timeline, proving its flexibility in such matters, but this doesn't not mean that it cannot break if bent too far. Proceed at your own peril.]

'Well, that is certainly helpful to know. Sadly it is a tiny bit too late to bring me such news… is it because I am in direct contact with it?' – I thought to myself, the next window already pooping into view followed by another one.

[Reverse summoning in progress… reverse summoning failed. Seal not customized for time displacement.]

'And there goes plan A. Oh well, it was a gamble to begin with, too bad it didn't work out.' – I thought as I looked at the third window that popped into existence.

[Event Ended: Back To The Past.]

[The past has changed… or has it? Can you really tell if it has or actually just flowed how it was supposed to in the first place? Did you actually intervene in the past, or was your intervention already part of that past… but in the end, does it really matter?]

'Philosophical? Some sort of mental fortitude test? Or simply a playful scratch at the user's brain? Food for thought maybe.' – I thought as I read the lines written in the window while smiling lightly.

It was right in the end though… up to a point at least. At the moment I did not have the means nor the knowledge to understand the intricacies of how time worked. That being said I did have the previous history of how shinobi had traveled through time with no visible side effects.

It was the most powerful motivator that allowed me to undertake a risk such as manipulating the timeline to my benefit. Granted, the changes I could make in the given span of time were… limited, to say the least. But that being said, a confrontation with the Fourth Hokage was a rare occurrence, especially given that he was dead.

(Sasuke POV)

Opening my eyes, all I could see were destroyed stone columns… the entire room almost covered in them.

As I was about to get up, the back of a hand smacked my face, snoring following afterward.

*SNORE*

My red Sharingan rotating, I turned my eyes to the person responsible, the orange-wearing blonde idiot to my immediate left, a vein threatening to pop in my forehead as a twisted smile radiating anger was plastered in my face.

'I fit like that, then…' – I thought as I placed my left hand on Naruto's shoulder, lightning flowing through it a moment later as the ensuing scream made a smirk bloom in my face.

"GGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH"

As Naruto squirmed on the ground, I slowly got up and shook the dust off of my uniform.

Feeling a glare a few moments later, I turned to see Naruto sitting on the ground crosslegged and immediately starting to curse at me.

'Hmph… This day has just gotten that much longer.'

--------------------------

(5 min later.)

'Well, if an entire city appearing out of nowhere didn't count as "out of proportion"… I sincerely doubt anything else would. That being said, I actually have to escape our new "allies". No other teams had been sent except for us on this mission, allowing us to attack any shinobi on sight at will.'

'That said, we are in an unknown place, with unknown enemies. Their Jutsus' seem genuine… but I can't tell without looking at their faces, and even if I could, they still have no reason to be here in the first place, putting them in direct opposition of the Hokage's orders.

Already at a distance between the blonde unknown seemingly focused on Naruto and the grey-haired kid, I slowly turned a corner and moved further away, reaching an empty area in almost no time.

'I don't have long until someone notices my absence, maybe a dozen seconds at best.' - I thought to myself quickly as I reached in my pouch and grabbed a scroll.

Unfolding it and allowing the chakra to flow through it, two much larger scrolls appeared amidst the smoke, one named "Reverse Summoning" and the other "Backup".

'Pretty self-explanatory.' – I thought as I attempted to use the first scroll.

"Reverse Summoning Jutsu!" – But nothing happened, the summoning failing as I sighed and looked at the other scroll.

Putting his palm on the seal, chakra flowed as a much larger explosion of smoke occurred, blocking Sasuke's vision for a few moments.
