"𝙋rosecutor V!" "Prosecutor V!"

My ears rang as reporters clamor all around me, blinding my eyes with each overwhelming flash of their cameras, all of them were vying for my attention just so they could have some 'scoop' as they call it for different media and news platforms.

As anticipated of journalists.

After all, a case such as the one I'm going to tackle is very scandalous and it would grant them an advantage over the others if they could get something from the prosecutor in charge of said case. Which was obviously, me.

I looked straight ahead without giving them any peace of mind and although I was confident about the conviction of the suspect. I couldn't help but ponder about what was going to happen after the trial.

Today was the day that I would be facing one of the most awaited sessions in court, a trial to finally eliminate China's second-largest underworld organizations who specialized in drug-trade and human trafficking.

What's more, a well-recognized bachelor of a multi-million company is the accused party.

Who I happen to be well-acquainted with.

When I initially heard about the news of them being investigated, I decided not to take on the case, but after series of more unfortunate events unfold, I was compelled to do so, for the sake of this entire nation's peace of mind.

One by one, I gathered pieces to conclude his guilt of the crimes.

However, I still couldn't face up to the fact that the blackened of such heinous sins would just be someone under my nose.

As dangerous as it is, I already signed up for a seat on the afterlife since taking this case meant suicide. If I lose, they'll come for me afterward, and if I do win, someone will eventually take me down the moment I exit the courtroom.

"Prosecutor V! How do you feel about today's trial?" One of them pushed through and shouted even though he was already near me. "Prosecutor V! Do you truly believe that Mr. Wei would be able to do such a thing?" Another one added.

"As much as I don't want to, I'm very disgruntled..." I smiled gently while nodding at them as if to say 'I'm done, please stop pestering me.'

But just as I was about to walk away, a more feminine voice called out.

"Miss Vu, how did you feel about Mr. Wei being convicted? There were rumors of you both being rather close."

My eyes squinted to the point where I would hit this girl in front of everyone if only I wasn't a woman of Law.

"Is that true, Prosecutor V? How are you going to deal with this then?" another concerned voice spoke.

Despite my annoyance, I simply turned around with one fist clenched. Might as well put an end to this idiocy.

"I'll see to it that justice is served." With that, I pivoted on my heel and headed towards the door, prepared to face whatever was behind it.

They continued calling out my name, some telling me I'll do well, some- wishing me luck.

Not that I needed it.

I was known for my aggressivee and cold behavior, more so often, nonchalant but it was no secret how impulsive the infamous Prosecutor V could be.

Some even believe that my rise to fame in the field of Law was because I coerced some officials into my bidding and as ridiculous as it may sound, the rumor kept spreading until today.

"Objection!" I slammed my palm on the polished wood in front of me, the sudden impact made even the jury shift on their seats as the courtroom fell silent once more.

"It was blatantly obvious that the defense is currently trying to prolong the trial by spewing unrelated topics from the case on hand." I started "As you could all see from the papers that came from THIS man's own office, a shipment came from Spain, traveled down to the Philippines and was finally sent here, in China. Now, during these days, another brow-raising event took place."

Slowly removing my hands from the desk, I took a few steps forward to the judge's side and snickered. "One of Mr. Wei's associates just so happens to deposit a large sum of money on an account under Mr. Wei's name. An account that had multiple suspicious withdrawals as well."

The opposing party looked unsettled, exciting me, even more, to continue poking holes in their previous statements. "Now, Your Honor, I would like to show the Accused, item number 1 for identification."

Here was it.

The evidence that will surely end all of this, once and for all.

I spun on my heel and walked towards the defense's side. Handing a small box with a rather loose ribbon on Wei Qian's hand.

"W-why are you doing this?" His voice shakes as he watches me in horror.

My, who would've known it was this easy to shake such an honorable man... or well, previously honorable man.

"It's not much of a surprise really, considering all those things you've done to other girls before you tried to hit on me." I smirked as I tapped on his finger as if to encourage him to open the box, to which he shakily obeyed through.

...

"G-GAH!" He wailed as he falls back from his chair, not wanting to see the contents of the box any further.

"I SUBMIT!

I SUBMIT!

I'M GUILTY!

I'M GUILTY!"

Qi-Han vigorously chanted those four words repeatedly as if it were part of his daily prayers.

Well, that's if he even prays.

Two bailiffs came forward and grabbed Qi-Han's arms on either side and suspiciously enough, another bailiff came forward and stared at me with ill intent.

And that's where it hit me.

This was it.

He's not an authorized bailiff, and nor was he even a bailiff.

Before I could even shout for help, a loud BANG shot through the room and everything else went black.

This wasn't really the first time I've been alive, nor will it be the first that I die.

During my previous life, I was Scarlett Davria Victorina Devereux, such a long name right?

Back then, it also wasn't a secret of how malevolent I was.

I threw things at my attendants, wailed and threw tantrums all day even for the pettiest of things.

To put it simply, I was a spoiled and affluent daughter of the Prime Minister.

'What I want, I get.' 'What's mine is mine, what's yours is also mine.'

Those were basically some of the lines that I lived by.

I enjoyed the pained expression in my attendants' faces. How they begged for mercy as I whipped them even for the slightest inconvenience that they may have or may have not intentionally cost me.

And even though my personality was horrible, my father always turned a blind eye and blamed himself for everything.

He'd always say that if only he was a more competent son, my grandfather, who I deeply adored, wouldn't have died, and I wouldn't have become so heartless.

My father, Radcliff Sohrab Devereux, Prime Minister of Kingdom Aether, blamed himself for the monster he never created.

And he even got more attached to me, his daughter, after the death of both my mother and my eldest brother.

And even if I were like so when I was younger, when I married the crown prince... I was still doted on by almost everyone who met me as a child. Giving me glamorous gifts here and there, and never did I once needed to lift a finger to do anything.

How did my lavish life end, you may ask? Well, it's all because I fell in love. Or more precisely, I fell into the deep hole of greed to attain an unattainable man.

A man who held no affection for a woman such as I before.

The Crown Prince, who I also, once deeply obsessed with to the point that I had my father arrange our marriage along side the Emperor, himself.

Now that I think about it, I was indeed, such a horrible person for forcing a young boy to marry me when he might've had someone else in his heart.

Yeah, that may be so.

If only I could say sorry to them before, I wish I could at least apologize and bid farewells to my father.

If I ever was reborn again, to that same time I will never love him anymore.

But I guess, this lifetime of me is finally ending.

After so many years... I can finally rest.

I can finally....
