Who Am I?

Its been dozens of years since the fall of the Kingdom of Provence under the leadership of King Meneth the Mad.

Since then King Jacob created his own Kingdom, taking over the lands previously under the rule of the Kingdom of Provence, under King Jacob's rule, the Kingdom of Corinthia conquered many of its neighbouring Kingdom and made the Kingdom of Corinthia grow into a continental superpower with the expense of millions of human life.

The Aggressive expansions of the Kingdom of Corinthia created a newfound tension with their neighbour, the Kingdom of Redvantz the other superpower of the continent.

Many suspects a new war will approach in the horizon, but only time will tell.

In an inconspicuous border village under the rule of the Kingdom of Redvantz a boy with strikingly short silver hair and purple eyes was laying down on the grassy fields. This boy was none other than Merin, a village orphan whose parents died only a few days after moving to the village. Thankfully the villagers were kind enough to the young boy, almost immediately adopting him after his parents died.

Today was Merin's 16th birthday, in the kingdom's standards he is lawfully an adult, and would be punished as one. Randall, the village elder went around the village and started planning a feast for Merin, as customs suggested there must be some kind of celebration once a person turns into an adult for good luck.

Merin, on the other hand, was ignorant about the entire feast being planned on his behalf, as he was already satisfied with his life, a quiet and yet peaceful life. Merin was never the smartest nor the strongest or even the prettiest in the village, rather he was average in all those fields, but unlike many, he possesses an undying willpower to strive on whatever he so chooses. Merin always wondered on who his parents were, as everytime he asked the villagers who they were, the just kept giving vague descriptions, saying they were pretty or even nice people. But there were also villagers who disliked Merin and told him his parents were beggars, maybe even bandits who stole a baby from someone as they were already bloodied and injured coming to the village with their swords sheathed.

Merin walked back to the village, still thinking the same two things he's wondered for many years;

who his parents were and why the villagers were kind to him, though the latter part was more of a relief and gratitude than a bad suspicion. As he walked through the village he noticed there wasn't almost anyone outside, which he found odd, but consoled himself saying that it was really hot outside, which for some reason worked for him.

He walked by the houses and walked to his house, or Randall's house, his adoptive father to ask if he needed help with anything. As Merin walked inside the house he was greeted with a large cheer from the crowd inside the house.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY MERIN!"

The villagers all shouted and started to run towards him to either shake his hands or hug him to celebrate his coming of age. Truthfully, Merin already had a tad knowledge about this event was going to happen but he still wasn't sure enough, if it would occur as he was only an adoptive son or an orphan. But in the end, he was still shocked and was brimming with joy.

As the party died down, people left the house of the village elder Randall, Randall suddenly called Merin to come inside his room. Not knowing what this was, Merin came in the room slowly and started to view his surrounding, as he looked he saw Randall sitting on his bed and beside him something long wrapped in cloth.

"Now that you're an adult Merin, I have something to give you"

Randall said smilingly while carefully grabbing the thing wrapped in cloth and presenting it to Merin. Merin not knowing what to do carefully looked at Randall and saw him nod, giving him the go-ahead to grab the thing carefully.

"Before your parents died they entrusted me with those things, they told me to only give it to you once you come to age"

Randall once again spoked and looked at the thing wrapped in cloth then looked back at Merin.

"Truthfully I did not want to give these things to you, but who am I to refuse and prevent you from inheriting your parent's inheritance"

Randall said and told Merin to put on the table and carefully open it. Merin nodded and did what he was told and opened it carefully, as he slowly uncovered the cloth, he saw two identical swords with the glistening hilts and wavy black and white patterns on the sword. *(Damascus Steel)* He was shocked to what he saw, he has seen countless of swords from the mercenaries who and guards who walked pass through the village and yet he never saw such stunning swords, he even had the fortune to see a noble once and even he didn't have such stunning swords. Shocked, Merin once again looked at Merin and asked him what this was supposed to be.

"It was the swords both your parents had when they came to the village"

"They told me..."

Randall was interrupted by a loud bang on his front door and a loud shout soon followed

"BANDITS!"

"BANDITS! THEY'RE ATTACKING US RUN ELDER!"

Randall instantly stood up and told Merin to follow him out of the door, soon they went outside the house and saw dozens of bandits running towards the village from the hills on the forest and already started setting a few of the houses on fire.

The Village was in total chaos. The hundreds of villagers all started to run away while the abled men all took out their farming tools to fight against the bandits, though as soon as they run towards the bandits, the forest just up the hill, behind the "bandits" hundreds of well-armoured knights came out the forest and showed flag of the Kingdom of Corinthia, and they charged.

Flustered by all of this the Villagers with Merin all started to run away as the knights charged in with their horses. He was going to die, Merin thought, as he ran as fast as he can away from the knights, not paying attention to his surroundings he tripped on a rock and forcefully knocked him down, while his conscious started to fade he heard a vivid shout and crisp sound of a house a falling down on him...

I'm just writing for fun, so I'm not entirely sure how much chapters I'll produce in a week but if a lot of people liked it I'll probably put in more.
