90 The Assurance

"Gordon! I'm alright. We don't have to go to the hospital!" Charlotte protested.

Gordon held her tightly in his arms as William, their driver, rushed to the closest hospital.

"Your face is bruised, your arms are burned, and we need to make sure the baby is doing fine. We're going." Gordon insisted.

Charlotte sighed but she knew it wouldn't hurt to check on the baby. She snuggled closely in Gordon's arms. She was so thankful that he had come for her and that he was safe.

"I was worried. He said he would kill you when you arrived." Charlotte whispered into his neck, her tears threatening to fall. Finally she felt safe enough to let them go.

"Oh Charlotte, my Love, have more confidence in me. I'll always come for you, no matter where you are. I will always seek you out and bring you back to my side. Besides, there were many helping me. Everyone was worried about you. They're going to be so relieved to know you're safe." Gordon assured her

Charlotte's eyes were growing heavy. All of the fear and anxiousness of the day had worn away at her strength.

"Please thank them for me." She whispered as she fell asleep.

Gordon gathered her closer and buried his face in her soft, black hair.

"I will love you forever, Charlotte. I'll seek you out in every lifetime. I am yours and you are mine. Forever."

They arrived not long after Charlotte fell asleep and were immediately ushered to the gynecology ward where they checked on the baby via ultrasound.

"The baby looks strong and healthy. Looks like mom did a good job staying calm." The doctor praised Charlotte, but she knew she'd felt anything but calm!

Next, they took her to an exam room and treated her wounds. They also advised she stay overnight just to be sure there would be no lasting negative effects, especially since Wendell had administered an unknown drug to her to cause her unconscious state.

The bed in the VIP ward was large enough for two people, so Gordon crawled in bed beside her and held her closely.

"Thank you, Gordon." Charlotte whispered.

"Why are you thanking me, silly woman? If I'd had better security in place you wouldn't have gone through something so traumatic." Gordon said.

"That's not true. And thank you for coming for me. Thank you for saving me."Charlotte said, looking deeply into his eyes.

"You're my wife, my dearest love. I could do no less." Gordon assured her.
