62 The Apology

The night of the shooting, Calvin had taken Amy home with him. She hadn't argued this time. She still felt it was too soon to live with him, but after the most recent incident she was well and truly afraid for her life; and if Calvin couldn't protect her then no one could.

Monday morning she climbed into his car with him for work, but she noticed the driver wasn't headed in the direction of the company.

"Where are we going?" She asked Calvin.

"Civil Affairs Bureau." He said absently as he read over a file in his hands.

"Why?" Amy was confused.

"To get married of course." He looked up at her.

"What? When did we discuss getting married?!" Her voice raised in panic.

"I made a unilateral decision the moment there was an active threat against your life." He said as though that settled the matter.

"Calvin Zhou, what do you mean? We haven't dated that long. You are the one who said in the beginning you wouldn't jump into anything. Now you announce to me, instead of asking me, that we're getting married?!" Amy was shouting now. It was the first time he had seen her angry and he thought she was adorable. That was a relief, because Julia's temper made him mad enough to hit her, but as a man he couldn't.

"What about the prenuptial agreement?" Amy asked, bringing his thoughts to the present.

"What about it?" He asked her.

"You said you had to have one in place before you remarry. If you insist on this, don't you need me to sign it before we get our license?" She asked.

"No. I changed my mind." He said quietly.

"Why? You should protect your assets. I understand that. As long as it's reasonable, I can sign." She insisted.

"That's why I don't need one. I can trust you." He said.

"How can you be sure? You barely know me." She asked.

"When I married Julia it was against both our wishes. There was never Love or trust. With you it's entirely different. We have both. I've got twenty-eight years of working knowledge and business experience under my belt. I can judge someone's character." He said with confidence.

Amy gave up. If he was determined to do this, then so be it. She knew she wanted to marry him eventually so she wouldn't protest too much today.

After they received their red booklets, they headed toward the business district, but stopped at the Rising Sun Corporation.

"Why are we here?" Amy asked her new husband.

"My nephew owns this company. I need to discuss important things with him." Calvin said.

"Wait, the nephew who beat you up because you made a pass at his wife? That nephew?" She asked.

"Yes." He said simply.

He led her inside and up the elevator they went.

"Yes?" Gordon Zhou picked up the company's internal line.

"Mr. President, there is a Mr. Calvin Zhou here with his wife to see you and Madam." Mark Rong said.

Gordon frowned deeply, but still told Mark to allow them in. He was surprised when Calvin entered with a lovely young lady. Mark said it was Calvin's wife, but that didn't make sense.

"Hello, Gordon. Long time no see." Calvin said.

"Mmm." Gordon acknowledged.

"This is my new wife, Amy. Amy, my nephew, Gordon Zhou and his wife, Charlotte." Calvin said.

"It's nice to meet you, Amy!" Charlotte spoke up from where she stood beside Gordon. Gordon pulled her down into his lap.

"Gordon, I'm here to sincerely apologize to you and Charlotte for what was entirely fault. There's no excuse or justification for what I did. I promise, it will never happen again.

"I forgive you so long as you keep your word, but if you break it again I will make you pay a thousand fold." Gordon promised.

"And I forgive you, so long as you treat this woman with respect and your marriage with faithfulness." Charlotte spoke up.

"Gordon, there is also another matter that I'm here about but I need to see you alone." Calvin said.
