Chapter Twenty-one

(Dennis)

We all stared at daniel with an a untrusting look, "and why would we believe you?" Tom sneered.

"W-well I know I've always took their side but it's because I was scared of what might happen if I didnt" he shuffled awkwardly. "They were plotting against you guys ever since our first fight, only starting to try and warm up after you guys killed that thing" he told us.

I look at Tom and Dipper with a bewildered look and they returned it, "regardless if you didnt agree with what they said, you still took their side and left us by our lonesome, were not trusting you" I stated firmly.

He huffed and lowered his head, "that's fine, but you have to take me with you, I dont want to be with ignorant pricks like them" he pleaded.

Tom and Dipper looked to me for the answer, well mostly Dipper, Tom obviously hated the idea of having Daniel come along with us.

After a moment of silently debating with each other, we settled on taking him with us and seeing what he can do to prove himself actually reliable to us.

"Fine, you can come with us but no funny business, I have no sympathy for any of you even if you didnt directly treat us like shit" Tom and Dipper nodded in agreement, that sour look never leaving Tom's face.

"Ok thank you so much you wont regret it!" he mused. Tom rolled his eyes and Dipper remained quiet like always, "do you have a bag? You can take some of this food and water for yourself. I'm pretty sure they should have ammo for whatever gun you make have on you" I said.

I stood up and moved out of the way so that Daniel may grab his stuff, the others following in after me as we stood by the door waiting for him to finish.

We talked among each other silently watching his movements, I wasnt completely distrustful of him but I was still weary because he tolerated the others slander.

He grabbed mostly preservatives for the long run, a few snacks at risk of expiring I assumed he was gonna eat. He stood up from his bent position and walked over towards us with a small friendly smile.

"Ok, I'm ready so uh whenever you guys are ready to leave just say so!" he says as he stood silently waiting for us. Tom side eyed me with a wary look but I waved it off from him, "alright, let's go guys" I waved them forward starting my way up the stairs.

"So um, how did you guys find this? outside there are a few odd looking holes I'm assuming that's how?" he asked. I grunted a yes and kept walking not really in the mood for questions.

He didn't say anything after that and I kind of felt bad for being a shithead, but what else did he expect? I'm not exactly fond of him or his group and neither is Tom or Dipper.

We reached the top of the stairway easily, looking around and making sure no zombies were in our line of sight. I looked back down at the tunnel and sighed, we'll probably never see this thing again but we have to keep moving.

We made sure to take as much as food as possible without compromising our physical abilities, plus if those pricks came back their wouldnt be much left for them but expiring food.

"Alright, let's head back to the apartment so we can get our car" I said dangling the keys from my hand. We walked the opposite direction of the tunnel and towards the apartment, I wondered what was in store for us once we leave this town.

We made it to the apartment and headed straight for the car, we ran into a group of zombie on the way here and had to dispatch them quickly. Daniel idioticly used his gun when I could easily killed the zombies with my augmentations.

So now we have to hurry just incase that attracted more attention. I hopped in the drivers spot and waited for everybody else to get in, once we were all in I turned on the car and back out of the parking lot.

In the overhead mirror I was able to see the very small couple of zombies stumbling their way aggressively towards us. "Shit" I silently swore to myself.

They were blocking the way I was gonna go, so we'd have to go the way we're facing anyways. I stepped on the gas and slightly sped us out of there, dodging and swerving zombies on the way.

We drove out of the exit and to our surprise we saw the other sitting on the opposite side of the road, seemingly waiting for us. Klancy stuck her head out of the window, her hair falling roughly down her head as her face contorted into a toxic snarl.

"So you're with them now!? How dare you Daniel!" she yelled with malice, Daniel shrunk into his seat not saying a word.

I sighed and told Tom to roll down his window. "Move on with your day if you dont want any trouble" I said in a calm voice. Klancy froze at my still tone but realizing the evil intent behind it.

She rolled her eyes and sunk back into the car with a huff, the screeched off into a whole other direction. I looked back at the worried looking Daniel with a soft look, "so you really did want to be with us huh?" I said.

"Yeah.." he replied looking down. I smiled slightly and turned my attention back to the front of the car, "ok! Then consider yourself officially apart of our group!" I exclaimed while driving off.

He smiles at my attempt at enthusiasm and makes a happy noise himself, "Awesome!" he exclaimed back

We continued the drive silently, just wondering where our next destination might be and what awaits us.
