Re; Gaia

25th May

Linwood, Christchurch, New Zealand

'With the signing of the Scuderi Declaration today in Singapore, over one hundred and fifty countries have agreed to the creation of the Project Gaia Foundation. The Project Gaia Foundation is a new world government organisation that has replaced the United Nations, and has been given far greater power than its' predecessor. The goal of giving the Foundation this additional power, is to allow for a more coordinated and comprehensive response to the problems facing the world today. The goals of the Foundation, are to limit the impact of global warming, enforce population control, and working together with nation-states and super-states to deescalate the global arms race.

A notable absentee from the signing was the newly independent Freehold of Artemis, despite Consul Scuderi being the namesake of the declaration. In a statement released earlier in the week, he said that the Freehold had no right to be involved in the affairs of the Earth…'

"Oi, Alex!"

I tear my eyes away from the television to see AJ waving dramatically at me. Seeing her in uniform reminds me that I'm at work. Luckily the day's already over, and we're on clean up duty, but I'm sure AJ would rather we got out of here as quickly as possible.

"It isn't like you to get distracted like that," she continues after getting my attention.

"Sorry," I reply. I take one more fleeting look at the screen, before returning to the dreaded mop and bucket.

AJ doesn't realise how personal this story is to me. Tayla is the only one who knows that Frank Scuderi is my father. That Alexander Giovanna is a fake name. As I scrub the floor, however, I found myself thinking back to what I said to my father: that I would stop him. I'm not sure how I'm going to, but I need to. I need to do my part to stop father.

The Project Gaia Foundation and its' doctrine was heavily influenced by my father, which means the world is already beginning to move according to his will. Of course, Frank Scuderi is still only one man. The world won't be entirely respondent to his wishes. It will push and prod, deny and reject him and his ambitions. Father will probably never be able to completely fulfil his dream, but if he even gets close, who knows what that'll do to the world and the future of humanity?

Yes, my father certainly has to be stopped. Not because his dream is wrong, but because it is just that. A dream. If he keeps pursuing it, the world will suffer for it. The world cannot be held together and supported by an ideal alone. His dream would be the death of us all. And, besides, the way he's gone about it is just wrong. For the most part, its' been kept out of the news, but there are plenty of rumours about the strange and sudden way in which the war came to its' conclusion. The Lunarian War of Independence, or simply the Lunarian War, as it has become known, came to a very sudden end, barely two weeks after it had begun. The strangest part about the abrupt ending, was the sudden retreat of an Indonesian fleet from the shores of Singapore. If Singapore had fallen, the moon would've been cut off from the Earth, and all the supplies necessary to the survival of the lunar settlements. Why the Indonesian fleet had a sudden change of heart has been subject to many rumours, but the one that seems somehow both the most ridiculous yet most likely, is the theory that Consul Scuderi threatened the destruction of Jakarta. If the moon had the ability to carry out such an attack, I'm not sure, but I am sure that if they did, then father would've used that ability. To threaten, manipulate, and force Indonesia into surrender.

To put it simply, he needs to be stopped. I want to stop him. I'm not sure how yet, but I need to stop my father and his mad dream before he ruins us all. There has to be a better way to go about things. I'm not sure what that better way is yet, but I know that it must exist. There is always another way forward.

"Alex."

"What?"

"Did you know that there's going to be a lunar eclipse tomorrow?"
