1 Reminisce: once was the past

'Click click....' sound of typing and rushing on the keyboard can be heard as Li Yei Kai trying to finish her final thesis before she can graduate from medical school and obtain her PhD. Being at the age of 19, she was able to fast track due her high IQ with photographic memory. Yei Kai could be said to be one of the youngest doctor in the medical field with great potential. Few years as medical interns has taught her many skills and knowledge, even though the internship was short but was long enough for her to learn all the skills necessary. Many hospitals has offer an open invitation to her, the job is there once she graduates. Yei Kai has not responded back as she haven't decided which hospital to go to.

Growing up in an orphanage has made Yei Kai independent and reliable. she has learned to share and care for the children there as they're her real brothers and sisters regardless of not blood related and regards the staffs as her parents. Even though she received scholarship for university, she would still worked part time at odd jobs to help cover other expenses. Any money left over from her wages, she would give back to the orphanage where she was once raised. She couldn't wait to officially start her work as certified doctor so she can give more back to the orphanage. Yei Kai has great respect for that place and the people there. They were the ones that care for her when she was abandoned as baby, so the orphanage was the only place she calls home and family.

'Done! How long has it been since I sat here typing up my thesis (time flies)'. The sky has turned dark and cloudy. 'It looks like it's going to rain any time soon. I better hand in my thesis before l'm late', Yei Kai thinking to herself. She got up and left the cafe. Once she reached outside, she can feel a few drop of rain landing on her head. She quickly speed up on her path to the cross walk, even though it starting to rain down hard, she make sure it was save before she crosses. Suddenly there was a car out of nowhere spiralling left and right, you can see from the way the car move the driver was drunk. Yei Kai happens to be in middle of the crossing, the car was coming at her so fast that she didn't have time to respond.

'Little girl, little girl', Yei Kai can hear someone shouting. She didn't know who was shouting or saying little girl to but all she knows is that her ears are hurting from the loud shout. Yei Kai was about to open her mouth to say stop shouting when all she could feel was gasping and water coming out of her mouth. When she opens her eyes, a teenage girl and a teenage boy were there staring at her. What shocked her the most was not the two standing there but the costume they were wearing. 'Am l on a movie set', that is all Yei Kai can think at this moment. Taking a look at the surrounding, the sky is very clear can't see any pollution, the trees and greenery around is like picture perfect is very peaceful. It's almost like factories have never been found. The smell of the air was so refreshing that Yei Kai thought it's best if she inhaled more of it before it disappear. Where can one person find fresh in this country anymore!?

'They must be doing a shoot in the country side.' Yei Kai thinking before she shift her eyes back to the teens. The two teens look at the little girl with worry looks due to her exaggeration of breathing and thinking she must be having a convolution due the after math of drowning. The boy decided to lift Yei Kai up and put her on his back and start walking with the teen girl following. Once the teens reached a small house that seem to popped out of nowhere, the boy put her down on a so called bed. The teens went outside to look for help. Yei Kai looked around and could see the place was run down and the furnitures were make of scraps that were put together. As she about to sit up, she notice something doesn't feel right. Her hands are much smaller and she starts to look at other part of her body. Everything seems different, legs are shorter and even her body frame is small and frail. She didn't notice earlier because she was too weak and tire from almost drowning. Looking up she can see the teens have return with an elder man with white hair, (kinda reminds her of a Chinese version of Santa but skinnier). Yei Kai look at the teens and then shift her eyes back to the elder man blinking her eyes like she should wake up any time soon, 'it's a weird dream to have, shouldn't I be dreaming of someone younger and more handsome'. The elder went up to the little girl ignoring her blinking eyes and check her pause. The elder asked little girl does she know her own name and she replied without thinking and said her real name, 'Li Yei Kai'. The elder man checked and told her everything is fine. She just needed some rest.

By the time everything is settled, the sky has turned dark. Yei Kai laying on bed thinking of the earlier event. Everything seem so surreal, the last thing she remembers was a car coming at her and she didn't feel any pain. When she opens her eyes again, the surrounding, the people and herself feels different (she can't seem to put her point on it). She doesn't understand what's happening. Has someone saved her and brought her to some remote village out in the country side. It's not like she can time travel back to some historical places.... Trailing off in thoughts as Yei Kai slowly close her eyes and fell asleep.

The next day, the elder man walked in when he saw Yei Kai got up from her sleep. He got the teens to prepare some water for Yei Kai to freshen up herself. The elder man introduced himself as White grandpa, that's what the children around here calls him.
