In the land of Vantage where the whims of Elemental Lords rule all over all, petty kings wage constant war and bicker over scarce remnants of power, and adopted farm boys with no power demand very little attention. But Rein isn't just an adopted farm boy, which becomes apparent on his 12th birthday when he awakens a primal element. Or a direct manifestation of one of the elemental lords latent powers. (Which is usually saved for those of royal blood.) Rein knows that if word of his new found power gets out it would draw attention from many of the ruling families, attracting both recruiters and assassins.
