9 Her Past

Asha filled two wooden bowls with soup made from root vegetables and frozen meat before handing one to Kai.

Kai sat down next to Asha, no longer feeling uncomfortable in her presence.

He was even bold enough to unashamedly admire her curvy figure as he reminisced how soft her body felt in his arms.

With the shadow in his heart dissipated, Kai returned to his former cheerful self before the accident.

"Mmmm! This soup is delicious! Ahk- Hot!" Kai beamed as he slurped down the soup too quickly, burning his tongue in the process.

"Ah, are you alright? Don't eat so fast you dummy." Asha held his cheeks in worry as Kai gasped with his tongue out.

"There there, let mommy cool you down." Asha started blowing cool air toward Kai's tongue as he enjoyed his mother's care.

He was actually just exaggerating; it didn't really burn his tongue that much since Asha was careful to not let it get too hot when she served it.

Kai remembered how some characters acted like this in the animes he watched so he tried to do it as a joke to liven up the mood.

However, before he could say that it was a joke, his mom reacted with such concern that it warmed his heart and decided to just accept her care.

After a successful treatment, the two continued to drink their soup as they conversed.

After they finished eating, Kai suddenly thought of a question to ask his mom.

"Hey mom, what was it like growing up? I never heard any stories of your past."

Upon recalling her past, Asha's expression stiffened and quieted down which Kai noticed and caused him to become flustered. "Um, if that is something you're not comfortable with sharing, then we don't need to talk about it."

Seeing her son's worried expression brought a smile to her lips. "No, it's fine. I just remembered some painful memories, that's all."

Kai felt bad for reminding his mom of the painful memories of her past. He also had painful memories that left a deep mark, so he understood and inwardly chided himself for being inconsiderate.

Seeing the guilt in his eyes, Asha reached out to hold his hand in assurance. "Kai, thank you for worrying about me, but I'm fine. With you by my side, those memories can't hurt me anymore."

"Ah, really? But I don't want to make you feel sad when you don't have to." He scratched his cheek in concern.

Seeing how caring her son was, Asha couldn't hold back her desire to hug her adorable son tight in her arms.

"My son is so sweet and kind, I can't help but want to pamper you." She hugged his face in between her cleavage as she petted his head in excitement.

Having his mother's breasts suddenly smothering his face surprised Kai, but he quickly yielded as he enjoyed her warm embrace.

After some time, having fulfilled her desire to hug her son, Asha released him before chatting again.

"Since my son wishes to know, then I will tell you about my life. I don't think it's very interesting though so it might bore you."

"No way mom. Learning about your past will never be boring. I want to know, no matter what happened." Kai clenched both his fists in eagerness.

"Alright then. I'll start when I was born. Since I was a baby at the time, I only know what I was told by others…"

Asha was born into a small tribe of around twenty-five people in the forest down the mountain they currently live on.

They called themselves the Black Boar tribe because of the black boars that lived in the forest that they hunted for most of their food.

On the night of her birth, people witnessed millions of stars that dotted a cloudless sky.

It was a magnificent sight to behold, like a glittering ocean in the sky.

After she was delivered, many stars started to fall, as if the sky was going to collapse.

The falling stars left an unforgettable scene as streaks of starlight cascaded down onto the earth below.

One such falling star plummeted toward their direction.

It landed close enough to the tribe that the shockwave it created blasted away all their shelter and structures and injured many people.

It was a sudden and unforeseen calamity that killed three tribesmen including her own mother.

Miraculously, she survived without any harm, but to the tribesmen's shock, she was born with white hair and blue eyes which was unlike their brown or black hair and brown or hazel eyes.

Due to the circumstances, she was dubbed a child of misfortune since her birth was connected to the destruction of their village and the death of three members.

She was given the name Asha which meant 'return to ash' due to her white hair and the tragedy that befell the tribe.

Without a mother, she was raised collectively by the entire tribe, but never received unconditional love due to being a child of misfortune.

The adults only interacted with her when necessary and the children teased and bullied her for looking different.

She accepted her fate since she didn't know any better and believed that she was an unwanted child.

When she grew up to be a teen, she was exploited by the others to handle the undesirable tasks.

She was happy to be of use to the tribe, so she accepted all the work given to her.

One day, she was tasked by one of the slackers to climb the tall, rocky hill where certain herbs they needed grew.

It was an arduous task because it was quite a distance from the village and the rocky steepness made it laborious to climb.

Without any complaint, she headed off to complete her task, eager to show her worth and hopefully receive some praise.

However, while she was away, her village was attacked by rampaging beasts.

When she returned, she found her tribe had been demolished with blood and guts everywhere.

Only three people survived, but they suffered heavy injuries that would take a long time to heal.

In their pain and grief and seeing that no harm had come to her, the three survivors blamed and cursed her for the destruction of the tribe.

If it weren't for her, the child of misfortune, staying in the tribe, they would have never been attacked by such fierce beasts. They wished that she had never been born at all.

Asha was distraught and blamed herself for bringing bad luck to her tribe. She wanted to help the survivors, but in their despair, they drove her away with harsh words wishing for her death.

She fled the only home she ever knew and wandered the forest in a daze.

It was a miracle that she wasn't attacked by any dangerous predators.

She didn't know where she was or how far she walked, but she kept going until she collapsed in exhaustion.

When she woke up, she found herself in a cave with a wild man.

Apparently, he was a lone wanderer who seldom spoke and didn't even have a name.

He found her passed out when he was out scavenging and brought her back to his cave.

She initially tried to leave on her own since she didn't want to pass on her bad luck again, but the man kept bringing her back.

He insisted that she would bear many children for him and with nowhere else to go, she decided to stay and repay him for saving her.

In the end, she eventually became pregnant and gave birth to Kai.

"You know, the moment I first held you in my arms, despite the pain and exhaustion from giving birth, seeing your tiny, innocent face gave me hope again." Asha reminisced as she leaned against Kai's chest, one hand clasping his.

"I'm sorry. Asking about your past when you experienced so much pain." Kai gripped her hand tighter.

"Don't be, although it wasn't easy, I have you now here with me, so I am not the least bit unhappy." She assured him as she placed her other hand over his.

Kai loosened his grip as he took a deep breath to calm down.

"Then as your son, I will do everything within my power to make you happy." He beat his chest and gave a reassuring smile.

Asha was touched by her son's reliability as she turned to face him with misty eyes.

"Why are you so good to me? You shouldn't be around such an ominous woman like me." She caressed his cheek as he held her waist.

Despite her deep desire to be with her son, she was more afraid that her presence would attract another tragedy.

After all, her son nearly died not too long ago. She couldn't help but believe that her very existence is an omen.

Hearing his mom degrade herself like that frustrated Kai.

He understood how caring and loving she was to him yet because of some things that happened that was outside her control, everyone blamed her as if she deliberately caused all that misfortune.

He wanted to show her that she was more than some living embodiment of bad luck. She was a beautiful, smart woman who accepted him despite his flaws.

He wanted to be there for her when no one else in her life cared. He wanted to show her that she is loved, much like she showed him.

"There's no way I would leave you mom. Trust me." Kai stared resolutely into her eyes to express his determination.

Seeing the seriousness in his eyes, Asha was taken aback and felt a lump in her throat as she tried but failed to hold her tears back.

"Mn." She could only nod before she buried her face against his neck.

The couple shared an intimate moment as they held each other, Asha appearing like the child with the way she snuggled up against Kai.

*RUMBLE*

Suddenly, the ground started shaking, interrupting their moment.
