11 The Magic Coffee Beans

Since I need to drive this afternoon, and it's not a short distance, I decided to have a cup of coffee after lunch, and refresh my mind before we leave.

When I was in the previous world, in order to kill the idle camping time and fully enjoy the slower pace of life, I always kept a can of coffee beans in my car, with a complete set of grinding and brewing tools to make a cup of tasty coffee.

As long as I opened the sealed jar, and I haven't smelled anything yet, Kruger — who has a keen sense of smell, ran fast and stood next to me, showing me a curious face:

"LuLu LuLu, what're these little beans? They smell really good, I'd never tried them before, either!"

Bending his upper body down to get closer to the jar, Kruger sniffed around it, and then looked up at me with his shining eyes, asking me with an appetite as if his saliva was about to flow down:

"May I have some of these beans?"

I remember dogs are only not allowed to eat chocolate, right? Oh, wait, he is more likely to be a wolf, and a beast-man as well. I assume they have a similar diet and habits as humans, so... It should be okay for him to eat some coffee beans, I guess?

To be on the safe side, when I nodded with permission, I also additionally urged him again and again:

"Of course, you can. However, I have no idea whether it's poisonous for you beast to eat the coffee beans, so you'd better just try a little — three or four beans are enough, not too much."

Kruger seems to be touched by my words, he smiled at me and leaned his head on my shoulder, rubbing my neck again:

"It is so kind of you to care about me, you are sooo nice and considerate, LuLu!"

Well, now I am starting to get used to Kruger's behaviour of trying to rub me or lick me from time to time, that's a typical dog's way to express friendship. After rubbing his head a few times, I took a couple of coffee beans out of the grinder, holding them in my hand and feeding them directly into Kruger's mouth.

...

"...Ewww... That's so bitter! It tastes terrible!"

"Blargh, why are you modern people drinking this thing?!"

Kruger's ebullient face changed, and then he gave me a sad and confused face after chewing a few mouthfuls of the coffee beans happily, dashing to the campfire to spit the remaining residue. I held my laugh and passed him a bottle of water, and then told him to rinse his mouth.

Kruger finished his drink in a few gulps and looked straight at my face, full of doubt. At that moment, I can feel some big question marks are almost materialized on his face:

"Why? LuLu, what is going on? Why the hell that this small bean could smell so sweet but taste so bitter?!"

He smacked his lips while talking to me:

"LuLu, I can't understand. Why do the humans in your world like to torture yourselves? You said that you are going to drink some water made of the beans' powder, to refresh yourself? HOW?"

"Well... Surely isn't it too bitter and terrible for you to fall asleep?"

It seemed like a light bulb is brightening on Kruger's head when he was asking and answering himself at the same time, our cleaver Kruger, thought he had found the reason why I wanted to "torture" myself.

"LuLu! That's it! I can feel it now!" Kruger raised his hand to cover his chest, and then his eyes became brighter, giving me a twinkle smile.

"My heartbeat became really fast right now, I feel very excited and I'm in good spirits, full of energy! I believe I can just run directly to the tribe without any rest!"

Kruger seemed as high as a kite, just because of some coffee beans. He began to jump up and down around my tent, I could even see his tail show up, waging so fast that I could only catch some blur ghosting.

"Lulu Lulululululu!"

"LULU!"

"I am sooo haaappy! You are going to come back with me!"

"I've seen you pack this tent before. Now please sit here and drink this so-called coffee thing, relax and keep your energy. Let me take care of everything else!"

Kruger kept moving his hands and body to put things in order with some happy chant of "Lulululu" — it seemed that my name has became an emotional word to him. After a few minutes, all the stuff are packed well, he even used his tail as a tool — the big fuzzy tail was folding a bundle of camp ropes.

...

Wait. WHAT? A tail?

Kruger, didn't I just feed you some coffee beans? How can you become so animated that your tail even turned out???

However...

It did prove that coffee is not toxic to beasts — on the contrary, it does remarkable work in Kruger's body...

I kept a lesson in my mind this time: never let Kruger drink coffee or eat any coffee bean again in the future, it might be better for me to hide my coke in the camping cooler as well.

Now I got things for him to organize, all those chores can help him expend his energy. I can't imagine what life would be like when we arrive in his domain and live together in the tribe if he keeps in this high spirit.

Otherwise, if there are not too many things to clean up, will he become a Siberian Husky that likes to tear down people's homes?

Sitting on the layback lounger chair leisurely and relaxed, I was making a cup of coffee for myself and enjoying watching Kruger's vigorous and agile movements. Aww, it feels so nice to have someone do all the chores, then I can just clean my mind and don't need to worry about anything!

Since I have completely regarded Kruger as a giant dog, a Youtube video came up to my mind: some dogs run so fast that suddenly disappear in the owner's sight after people open the door for them, and those owners have to yell loudly to find those excited dogs...

"Kruger, you know I'm not familiar with the surroundings, please lead the way at a lower speed in case I can't catch you up!" As soon as he reminded me of the scene of wild crazy dogs, I urged Kruger again.
