39 Entering The Lab

Stepping into the chimera lab, both Wyatt and Bellamy were instantly attacked by the horrendous stench within.

In front of Wyatt, all he could see was a long dirty tunnel heading deeper into the mountain. The same gross green toxin could be seen dripping and staining along the passage walls, combined together with the damp and murky interior of the dungeon gave both of them a very eerie feeling.

Wyatt made sure to pass Bel some extra potions in case of any emergencies that could happen later on. Luckily, although he isn't immune Wyatt has a much better natural defense against poison due to his affinity, so he wasn't as worried about himself.

Since he was the one who invited Bellamy, he would feel really bad if Bel died to poison due to his carelessness.

as the duo continued forward they noticed that the environment was slowly changing from the typical rock and dirt opening into a much cleaner stone pathway. There were even some torches lighting up the path further ahead of them.

Clearly, these things were created by a human and not a monster, still, Wyatt couldn't help being confused about why torches would be lit up if the lab was apparently abandoned.

They decided to ignore this oddity for now because the torches meant they didn't have to rely on Bel's light again like in the previous wolf den.

Continuing down the stone pathway for another minute they arrived at the end of the entry passage.

THUMP

Heavy stomping noise could be heard echoing ahead of them as they arrived. The duo decided not to rush into any battles since they were greatly lacking in personnel.

As they peeked their heads into the new environment their eyes instantly landed on a large creature crawling around inside. With sharp rigid jaws and wide silvery eyes, the massive reptilian monster was crawling on all fours around the open space leaving imprints everywhere it stepped.

The majority of the creature looked similar to a large crocodile from the real world but once one looked closer they could see large patches of dark brown fur growing against the monster's backside.

They also noticed that the creature's claws were abnormally large and sharp, as they easily pierced the stone environment whenever it dug its claws.

"What the hell is that?" Bel whispered in disgust while staring at the weird creature.

Wyatt continued examing the beast for a little longer before quietly answering back

"It should be some sort of experimentation, this place was a chimera lab remember?" he replied.

This answer got an eye roll from Bel who immediately retorted "Obviously I know that, I meant what do you think it's made of?"

Wyatt thought about the monster's appearance for a little before replying

"Judging by the body and large patches of dark fur, I think it should be some sort of Lizard and bear hybrid. The comically large claws would also make sense if it was part bear"

After laying out his simple deductions, Bel accepted his reasoning.

"mmm ok I agree, but now that we know what it's made of, how the hell do we fight it?" Bellamy inquired as the pair retreated a few steps back into the pathway, that way they wouldn't be noticed while planning their attack.

"First issue is we don't know how strong its scales are, I suggest we try to land a quick attack against it before it notices us just to check its durability" Bel stated

Wyatt nodded his head in agreement before following up "I'll throw my chakram at its scales first and if I can't cut through we can immediately focus on the fur spots on its back"

The planning was pretty straightforward with only a few details to focus on.

"Unlike the wolves we fought before, this guy doesn't look very fast! you should have any trouble dodging him while chipping away at his health. But just in case, ill buff up your agility to give you an easier time"

Wyatt didn't mind the extra reassurance through the buff so with everything settled it was time to attack.

[Jolt Blade]

SHING

One of Wyatt's chakrams pierced through the air launching toward one of the creature's hind legs. Sparks of electricity could be seen sizzling along the blade due to Wyatt's skill.

The beast was instantly alerted by the loud sound whizzing toward it. Turning its large reptilian face it quickly made eye contact with the new pair standing near the entrance of its home.

Although it noticed the new arrivals, the beast didn't bother attempting to dodge the flying chakram whats so ever. perhaps it already knew it was too slow to dodge, or maybe it didn't feel threatened by the blade.

Either way, its decision to stay still was better for Wyatt's experiment.

CLASH

The sound of chakram and scale colliding echoed through the open room.

Wyatt took the chance to examine the impacted area, hoping he caused at least some damage to the creature. Sadly, his hopes weren't met as the blade barely etched the surface of the scales.

Instantly he knew that even with lightning coating on his blades, it would still take over a dozen such attacks just to pierce the creature's leg enough for it to bleed.

Obviously, such a plan would be useless in the long term so Wyatt quickly changed his focus toward the fur patches on its back.

THUD THUD THUD

This time the beast wasn't planning to simply let Wyatt do whatever he wanted. As it instantly charged forward in hopes of quickly disposing of him.

Wyatt was startled by the chimera's speed. Originally he thought the beast didn't dodge because it knew it was too slow, it turned out he was completely wrong.

Although the beast was still much slower than the wolf boss Arken that they had fought previously, the chimera's speed was still enough to catch Wyatt off guard if he didn't focus.

As Wyatt turned his body to quickly sprint out of the creature's path, he noticed a faint glow surrounding his body. Turning his head he realized Bel had finished casting his agility buff.

With this extra speed, he quickly dodged to the left and recollected the previously thrown chakram.

Now with his boost and earlier test complete, It was time for the real battle to start.
