CHAPTER ONE

There is never truly any equality in life. This was something Helix, with a doubt, was very familiar with. Although people are born equal, their experiences draw a clear line between each of them. As he drove through the fog that clouded the road just as much as his thought did his mind, he let out a sigh. No one had warned him that growing up wouldn't solve any of his problems. Running away from them did little to change what was happening as they turned out to be more tenacious than he had initially anticipated.

"It will get better with time," David his therapist had told him. However as time passed, the nightmares got worse. They had slowly evolved from blurry-close to lifeless images to full blow well defined nightmares. They became more distinguishable as he grew up and they became more vivid. As if to mock him further, her face had become very life-like in his nightmares. Even thinking of those luminous eyes that seemed to stare him down till his very spine sent shivers coursing through his body. Her scent never left his mind. A mixture of lemons and herbs. It always lingered around his nose as if to remind him that he could never be free of her.

The fog slowly became thicker as he went deeper into the woods. Silence was the only company he had. He preferred to drive in silence and silence had always been his truest friend. It was his solace. He relaxed into his seat which was slightly inclined at an angle. His window was all the way down enabling him to smell the addicting smell of the freshly rained on earth. Even the trees had become unclear as the fog thickened.

It was at this moment that life rolled its dice and decided to mess with Helix. He suddenly hit something causing him to quickly step on the breaks bringing the car to a quick halt.Silence. Helix could hear his heart beat slowly. There were never any deers near the road. Nor around the area because of his pack. He let out a sigh. His gut did not have a single doubt in it. It was either an animal or at worst a human being. He couldn't smell any magick in the air so it possibly could not be a witch. Maybe a dire-wolf, one of his kind? His pack?

Reluctantly he get out of the car. His eyes changed from their usual pitch black into a bright scarlet red, enabling him to clearly see everything around him. Then the sent of blood hit him. It was strong and very fresh. Human blood. Following the scent of the blood, he found himself in front of a young boy. His white shirt had been dyed red with the fresh blood that oozed from his head. His back pack had landed a few meters away from the young boy and his pair of black trousers had ripped. Most of the blood oozed from his head in addition to the cuts on his arms, his legs and his waist. He was not going to make it. Death was calling for him.

Yet the boy hadn't given up yet. He still struggle to breathe. He was fighting for his life and Helix stood there for a while as he watched the young boy. He had no way of helping the boy. He would surely die before Helix could get him to the hospital.

"He might make it." The little voice in his mind whispered. The boy had less than a minute left. Helix let out a pained smirk. He knew what he was about to do was a gamble with little to no success rate. Yet something told him to try. If it works then the young boy would surely survive, however his life would as well change.

As if having made up his mind, Helix knelt down next to the boy and said to the almost dead boy,"If you die you die."

Helix then sunk his teeth into the boys neck, injecting his poison directly into it causing the boy to flinch momentarily . As much as he could, trying to revive the dwindling pulse of the boy that slowly began to fade. Unfortunately, the boy's pulse completely stopped. His heart no longer beat. The stopping of his heart brought back the silence that had previously occupied the space around Helix. The fog had slowly began to clear up. Helix heart dropped. Life never let things to go the way he wanted them to. He had just run over a young boy and killed him. He frowned, greatly displeased with himself. And fate.

The veranda of the Pride mansion faced the forest that was as thick as it could be. Only one tarmac road led to the house:s drive way with almost nothing around the mansion. There is a large withered and dead tree in from of the house and a small pond filled with lilies. But the pond had no other life forms apart from the lilies. Not even crickets. It was clear that all the animals were aware of the danger the inhabitants of the mansion posed to them. It was huge. Made out of stones with vines climbing up the walls. The grass, the one that grew in the clearing in which the house stood, was very green and evenly grown with no imperfection. The owner of the mansion stood in the veranda, watching the road and waiting for his brother.

He was anxious. Very anxious. His brother was not good with people, mostly therapists. He had recently changed his brother to a knew therapist hoping to finally help his brother overcome his trauma that haunted him since his early childhood. When the black jeep pulls up in his driveway a smile creeps up on his face and he finally felt the stress leave him. But the smile slowly fades when the smell of human blood hit him. Christopher watched his brother alight from his jeep with a complex expression on his face.

Helix's shirt had traces of blood on it. Christopher slowly got up from his seat, his eyes locked onto Helix's. The wind blew gently on their faces unaware of the tension in the air. Christopher was well aware of Helix antisocial behavior. He as well knew that contrary to Helix's resting bitch face he was just a cinnamon roll who rarely hurt anyone. Hence he was greatly confused as to why his gentle brother had human blood on his shirt and smelt strongly of fresh human blood. His eyes followed Helix as he walked over to the passenger seat door and opened it. His hands reached into the passenger seat and they emerged carrying a body which was cover in blood.

He stood fixated to his position and watched as Helix carried the body up the stairs upto where Christopher was. As Helix drew closer Christopher heard it. A faint and weak heart beat. It was barely there. And it came from the body. The boy was not dead. But it could not truly be said that he was alive. It seemed like he was at death's door. Death was beconing the boy to follow it.

"Brother,.....I need help," Helix said in his low raspy voice.
