Pretending To Be God

George Sterling, once a successful lawyer turned actor, then turned magician, finds himself in dire straits as the rise of Artificial Intelligence takes away all his livelihoods. As he nears the end of his life, a family heirloom, a mysterious ring passed down from his father, transports him to an unfamiliar world seemingly distant from reality. Upon awakening, George discovers a newfound opportunity that awaits him. Initially tasked with portraying the Wizard of Oz to survive, he delves into this new role. However, as he embraces his new identity, an even greater challenge lies ahead: he must venture into the realm of pretending to be a god. This book uses characters and elements from L. Frank Baum's original Oz series which has entered the public domain and allows me to use them in my original book as long as I do not use the characters and elements from the adaptations that haven't entered the public domain.

High Court

The Emerald City High Court was rarely used and only stood as the symbol of law and justice in the City. The High Court judges, qualified in all their rights, with experiences in the more local areas in the cities, were just sitting there and getting paid to be a part of the symbol.

There were sometimes, they would be called about something regarding the law, in which they would give valuable input on everything that the officials needed to know.

Other than those exceptions, though, there was not much that they needed to do. But today, one of the High Court judges sat at his bench with the golden hammer that was decorated with emeralds on it in his hand.

He had been waiting for a few minutes even though the case hadn't started yet; just thinking of doing some job as a judge excited him; after a whole decade of doing nothing, at least now, he could feel what it was like to be a judge once more.
