Chapter 1: Born to win are we all born equal?

Since when did labour pangs become something to be desired? Since when did daddy's, doctors, and diviners take child birth as utmost priority to be given all the attention and care?

It became so since the Universal Declaration of 2084 that demanded all births be treated equal no matter the social status of the parents.

Since the discovery of the embedded microchip hidden in a secret part of the human body, that contained coded scripts of a blueprint of the bearer's lifespan.

It was an advanced innovation from the more popular Gene Test, where series of tests are conducted and the 500-page result is translated to determine your skills and health disposition.

The discovery of a hidden microchip at birth could bring goodwill to the discoverer.

Now with Government involvement it has become a lucrative business to bear children, father a child, facilitate and assist in the safe transition of a child from conception to delivery and all such related activities.

Maternal and child mortality were now fully recognised as a National waste.

Durban, South Africa

Friday morning 29th March 2090 at the Rhodes University Health Institute was a mad rush. Like someone prophesied that a king would be born, or that there would be an award for being a patient on that day!

The decade had been characterised by population surge. The Hospital was mostly where specialists brought all their gynaecological ingenuity to bear, churning out Designer Babies, as they were called; and they recorded 400 successful births in the last one week. One of the lowest recorded across other medical institutions city wide.

This week was no exception as Cynthia Tikly was one of the 80 waiting mothers. Sophisticated scan results had revealed that she was expecting a healthy male child with a microchip lodged in his left nostril.

Her leave from work was scheduled and she was determined to have her birth as quickly as possible and enjoy the rest of her time before resuming at the Bank.

After series of miscarriages she summoned the last strands of courage in her to try once more before her sixtieth birthday.

The best she could do was to join the league of those to voluntarily enlist to raise strong agile men to boost South Africa's military personnel in the next 18 years.

She was tickled by the advert when it flashed on her mobile device. The Government was considering boosting it military might and people were unwilling to enlist due to several associated challenges attached to the profession.

They therefore called for people to father and mother babies that would be trained from birth to be soldiers.

Her baby was already predestined to be one of such security personnel before conception.

As a single lady Cynthia thought to herself, "This is the least I can do under my circumstances'', while signing up the papers. "At least the government would take care of me and the child until he was 17 and then he would be whisked off to fulfil his destiny".

NAIROBI, KENYA The rich industrialist; Josh Ekwom, Nairobi-Kenya

(forecasting technological advancements in childbirth)

Meanwhile thousands of kilometres away in Nairobi, Wendy Ekwom was close to her time and Josh her partner was already by her side ready to catch their bundle of joy. It would be a hairy female with a chip on her hair. It would be a delicate situation, not to lose any piece of the chip while dislodging the baby from her mother's womb.

Wendy was officially trans-human. After a successful hip transplant, she was set to test her bio-enhancement after waiting for two whole years.

Josh had taken time out from his busy schedule to witness the event, as was the trend among his friends. He had been inundated by plenty 'baby birth' talk at the golf club, and this was his opportunity to get in on the flow after marrying Wendy.

Childlessness was at root of his divorce to his previous wife after she had left him for another more fruitful man.

There was really nothing left of his ego before he met Wendy; with all the connections, money and investments he had made, he was empty and felt unfulfilled without a child to his name.

The Kenyatta National Hospital was a better choice after all, the doctors here seem to know what they are doing.

Alexandria, Egypt

(Mixing the old and the new)

The baby boom did not leave out any part of the globe. The recent Egyptian Medical Sector reform was set to explore and employ all available medical ingenuity to capture every baby alive.

Rudolph lost his parents when he was just a little boy and was left with his lovely grandmother and has grown up to be a fine young man fit for a prince; Learning so much from his 82 years old woman whom he only knew as mummy.

He grew up to know that Mummy was not particularly excited with all the hype about medical advancement in child delivery. She claimed that all her 7 children were born through natural birth and that anyone born otherwise was going to be a questionable human.

Now that Ruddy as she fondly called him, was set to get married after his Medical degree, she would ensure that all her great-grand children from Ruddy came through natural birth and were fed exclusively with breast milk for 6 months.

It had been a battle between her and Brenda, her first son's wife; as a trained midwife in her prime having worked in several medical outfits on the continent and abroad.

Unfortunately, she couldn't live to 90 years to see her much desired great grand children.

But for the love Rudolph had for his Mummy, he would pursue her dream to ensure many more women had more natural births and more babies had breast milk.

Nigeria

Far away Aladja hosted the world renowned Delta Steel Company in Delta State Nigeria on the Western region of Africa, that had metamorphosed into the largest revenue earner in the region, attracting local and international investors from across the globe.

Soon after the attention of the world had shifted from crude oil exploration; the world had advanced from borehole drilling technology to cleaner capturing of natural resources above the earth's surface. Accra Ghana

(Drama in Church with conception)

After several attempts at having a baby, Janet had settled for a surrogate. The rumour about funny colours of the eyes, hair and skin didn't matter anymore.

Her husband Ken was part of a successful Church Ministry that pioneered the new Pentecostal wave in the country and assisted the General Overseer and Founder in administering over a 15,000-member congregation.

With the baby-boom, there was no way she would be left out.

One each service day there were numerous testimonies from members on how Pastor Ken, her husband prayed for them and they conceived and delivered their babies safely.

The irony of it was that Janet and Ken had been married for close to 15 years without an issue. The busy schedule of ministry, preaching, administration, travelling, had shielded them and made it easier for the couple to manage the societal pressures associated with their condition.

It was always so difficult to keep a straight face each time there was a 'safe-delivery' testimony.

They had a secret plan and they were set for their testimony.

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

(The religious controversy over contraception)

Tanzania Vision 2025, the National Strategy for Growth

and Reduction of Poverty (NSGRP-MKUKUTA), and the Primary Health Services Development Program

(PHSDP-MMAM), among others.

President Homeli Maulid had made several controversial comments on the role of women in the society. He was reported to have openly told everyone to fight against contraception and encouraged women to have a minimum of three children.

With the world's population peak far surpassed, many earth dwellers were seriously considering relocating to Mars!

Lady Lena was not to be left out as she worked hard at her latest fashion adventure. She was designing a pink-coloured Wearable Space Craft, with gold trimmings; a fantasy she adopted after she arrived from her first trip to Mars.

She was planning another one and this time, no more dark colours. All that high risk of cancer due to excess radiation bothered her not.

Inspite of the doctors warnings, she even dreamt of a Baby Space Suit, after all, her husband the President could afford it.

Lady Lena was a high flier and being married to the President of Tanzania fanned the flames of her flamboyance.

She had everything at her disposal, chefs, maids, orderlies, escorts, personal assistants and all that media attention.

The only things that were missing were children to secure her hold on sustainable wealth.

It was obvious that children would have created more avenues for travel, luxury, vacations, shopping, gifts and such like.

The 5 year tenure of her husband in power was almost over and she had to take advantage of their huge medical largess to do something about her bareness.

Adoption was the lowest hanging fruit for her, not that Homy would object though. But her private doctor had just told her some really exciting options

And she was determined to break every protocol to get this information as soon as possible across to Mr. President, before his next trip.
