8 To Live is to Kill

I lead in the front as the town and I set off with a plan in mind. We open up the hatch, wait a few minutes for the radiation to leak in and jump in, the telekinetics stay above to float us all down without injury. The white ceramic halls of Discorp become dirty with mud within seconds and furniture turns to rubble. Within half an hour the building is filled with my people. The Ring on my hand changes colour from a fiery red to an even hotter orange and my head is filled with other voices. I am finding it hard to focus on what to listen to, my head is full of chaos and sonic violence. I look down to my hand and grip the ring. Out of panic I pull at it, but it doesn't budge, I try it again and I crack my knuckle, but other then that nothing happens. I decide to leave, it doesn't matter. I walk through the tower, down the well like ramp down the middle of the tower, along with the white carpet and holding the white half wall like the railing. Every now and again there'll be a random person being pushed through the wall and plaster powder creating a smoke. I stop as I watch them fight to the death and try to push each other over the side to the floor ten stories below. I grab the railing and parkour jump over the side and fly down to the ground.

As I hit the ground I bend my legs to take the impact and in seconds I'm surrounded by guards.

"Who are you and where did you come from!?" One of them asks.

"I? Who am I?" I ask back laughing and raising one eyebrow, "I am Katigoros..." I say as I quickly run up and force my hand at their throat. They fall to the ground, "and my people and I are here to get our revenge. Your people sent my people up to die, instead, I...we grew. More powerful than any small mind of humanity could conceive. So, I...we are here to get our revenge, an eye for an eye, a small life for a big freedom. So come, do your worst." I say with a deep dark growly voice. They attack all at once, batons, tasers. I'm standing there waving my arms about blocking every move they throw as if I know what they'll do before it happens. It becomes too much and the ring goes to red and the voices in my head stop, and tense my hands and the guards fly away like a string in the wind, they don't get up again. There are people running around me crazily holding tasers, guns and other weapons like objects. Every so often I grab someone that bumps past my shoulder and rip their's off, snap necks and force my hand at their throats.

Through the fighting I see one girl coming towards me. Amanda is coming over to fight, I can tell. I make her chase me down to the basement, a place full of heating pipes, gas heated boilers, electrical power boxes and plumbing. This room is dark and musty but lit by the flames in the boilers. I need to get rid of this little brat before she gets rid of me. We start fighting. She throws punches, roundhouse kicks, goes out to claw me. I have to wonder how she survived the radiation. "My disability,..." she says, "I had no use of my legs. You were blind so you couldn't tell." she says through force of the kicking. Then she disappears in a cloud of smoke and there's a sharp sudden pain in my back as I go flying forward and stop with a massive bang and I leave a large dent in a pipe, steam comes spurting out, I slump down to the ground. I see Amanda flying towards me in a ninja kick style. I roll to one side and she hits the pipe. I get to my feet and grab her's, I drag her to the middle of the room and build up momentum and swing her around and let her go and watch as she moves to the boilers. I get ready for the boiler to collapse but instead, she stops in mid-air and just stands there in the air. There's a red light coming from my hand and I look down to see the ring has gone red. I wave my hands and all the light goes out. I smell gas, Amanda and I are slowly getting poisoned, but at this point, I don't care. I blink and see a red figure floating in the middle of a dark blue background. I float up in the air, thanks to the ring giving me new abilities everytime it's colour changes. I creep forward and hit her, leaving her confused about what hit her. The ring turns purple and the gas clears. I'm watching Amanda coughing and fall to the floor. Her red figure fades to blue as I hear her exhale deeply. I blink and my sight goes back to normal.

I go back up to the fight to face Doctor Nickeldon.

"Nick? Is that you?"

"No, not anymore. I am no longer Nick. I have become more than that. You knew the radiation kills, so you sent me up, along with my people, to die. But I didn't die, I grew. So now, I'm going to send you up to die." I look around, there's a large crowd of my people, and the guards on the ground not moving. The Doctor punches me, I step back. He kicks me, he pushes me out the front door. I don't care about this scum any longer, I was holding back from really hurting him. Now I let out all my force at him. I punch him, kick his stomach, kick his knees in, I push the air with both hands and he goes flying at the Discorp building, from my power and force the building comes down like a Jenga tower. He becomes dizzy and dazed. With the tower, some of the ground above falls through too. "Take him up, seal the hatch," I say to those around me. "I'll go last to make sure all of us make it out," I say, my ring turns red. The Doctor lunges at me ready to punch me, I turn and watch him fall to the floor. As he gets up I finally knee him in the face and watch him bleed. The crowd comes out. "Well, what are you waiting for?" I say to my people. I blink hard and everything changes colour to the thermal imaging. I watch my people go up through the larger hole to the ground above. I watch the radiation leak into the underground town, I hear mothers scream, babies cry, little boys laugh, I also hear the sound of people exhaling deeply. My ring turns to orange, all the voices come flooding back into my head.

"People, people,..." I think, hoping this works, "everyone stop..." They all stop, "Wait, come back, we have gained new brothers and sisters in this mutation. Come back and gather this town's population. Let them live." All the people of this underground town start floating towards the hole. After everyone leaves, I start floating up towards the hole but as I'm nearing it dirt starts falling through it and I get hit by the dirt. I'm thrown back down to the ground below the ground.

Under a pile of dirt, I lay. I dig my way out to darkness, the hole has been filled in, I'm left in darkness. I blink hard but nothing changes, I'm still in darkness. I feel around me and my hand hits a small box, I find the middle and push, it slides out, I pick out what feels like a toothpick, I strike it against the side of the box. I feel the heat from the match but my sight doesn't change, I'm still in darkness.
