5 The Duel

"I still can't believe you bonded with your soul animal so quickly. How did you do it?" Professor S looked up and asked Alex.

"I just talked to him for a little while then he tested me. When I passed the test we created the contract." Alex said with a innocent look.

"What!? It can talk?! What animal did you awaken?!" Professor S quickly asked him as she leaned closer to Alex.

"I awoke a dragon." Alex smiled and awkwardly scratched the back of his head.

"A dragon?! How?! What?!" Professor S almost fainted on the spot. She grabbed his arm and inspected the scales. She took pen and tried to stab his arm, but the pen bent when it made contact with the tough scales on Alex's arm. "This is amazing. Your scales are harder than any scales I have ever seen. So you actually awoke a dragon. You are going to be very powerful when you can control your power better." Professor S started muttering to Alex.

"What is going on?" Jack asked as he opened his eyes and saw Professor S and Alex quietly talking.

"I managed to create a contract with my soul animal." Alex said as he turned to Jack.

"What you created a contract already?! Darn I only managed to get my bullfrog to crawl into my hand. I couldn't get a contract to form. You are so skilled Alex. How did you do it?" Jack started bombarding Alex with questions about the contract. After a minute Sylvester also opened his eyes. He looked around and smiled with a glint in his eye.

"I managed to get my black mamba to form a bond with me. He was wrapped around my neck when I left my soul space." Sylvester said.

"Well my bullfrog stayed in my hand in my soul space so I made good progress in my bond." Jack quickly said to Sylvester.

"That is great! Our team is going to be very strong by the time we have the tournament." Alex cut in. Sylvester looked over at Alex and saw the scales on his arm.

"You, you formed a contract?! Already!?" Sylvester's smile faded from his face and was replaced by an excited expression. "Now our team will be unstoppable by the tournament." Sylvester said.

Gregory opened his eyes and saw that everyone was already awake. "How did everyone do?" Gregory asked.

"We all did well. Alex has formed a contract already!" Jack said with a huge smile on his face.

"That is awesome!" Gregory's face broke into a massive grin and he grabbed Alex's arm to examine the scales.

"Alright kids head on back to the dorms now. The lesson is over." Professor S said through a yawn.

"Thanks so much Professor S!" the boys said as they got up and started to walk back to their dorm. They walked into the room and flopped down on their beds. They were so tired that they all passed out almost instantly. You could hear the sound of light snoring as the night crept onward until morning.

When the loudspeaker blared a loud bell at six am the boys were woken up. They quickly got dressed and walked toward the battle field. The battle field is a large open field that duels and combat training are held on. When they got there many people were gathered off to the side of the field to watch the duel.

Standing in the middle of the field was Mark. He had his arms crossed and a smug look on his face. When Alex walked up to him he snorted and said " Let's start the duel. I will make it quick."

"Fine by me. The quicker we start the quicker I can leave." Alex said with a bored look on his face.

"Now you are making me mad! I am going to make you pay for those words!" Mark shouted as his face scrunched up in anger.

A teacher walked up to Alex and Mark and asked them "You both are ready for this right?"

"Of course we are." Mark coldly said. Alex only nodded toward the teacher.

"Okay. Let the duel begin!" The teacher said as he waved his arm up and down to signify the start of the duel.

Mark smirked and started to transform his fingernails into long, sharp, pointed claws. Mark ran at Alex and sliced at his chest. Alex quickly grew some scales on his forearm and moved his arm to block Mark's attack. When Mark's claw hit Alex's scaly arm it didn't even leave a scratch on Alex. Alex smiled at Mark and then punched Mark in the stomach.

"Is that the best you can do?" Alex asked Mark. Mark was gasping for air and couldn't respond to Alex. "What's the problem? Cat got your tongue?" Alex looked down at Mark. Suddenly Mark lunges at Alex trying to tackle him to the ground. Alex grabbed Marks arms and threw him to the ground.

"Ugh!" Mark exclaimed as he hit the ground.

"You should give up. I don't want to hurt you more." Alex said to Mark.

"No I refuse!" Mark yelled as he tried to claw Alex once again.

"Fine you leave me no choice" Alex sighed. He quickly grew one inch long claws that glimmered in the morning light. Alex stretched his arm out and clawed Mark across the chest before Mark was able to reach him.

"Ahh!" Mark yelled as blood started flowing from the four cuts on his chest. Mark fell to the ground and the teacher ran over to him. "Alex has won this duel now someone help me get Mark to the infirmary." The teacher announced.

Suddenly the crowd erupted in cheers as they started chanting "Alex. Alex." Gregory, Jack, and Sylvester ran towards Alex and gave him a big group hug.
