2 Chapter 2

Viola returned Pinsir to his pokeball as Atsumu just walked onto the battlefield towards Dragapult who stared at Pinsir with a disappointed expression on his face, mirrored by the disappointed expression on Atsumu's face as he stared at Viola.

Viola gripped Pinsir's pokeball as she stared at her reflection in it. She gritted her teeth as she thought about how she performed in said match. She felt huge amounts of disappointment in herself. She took a deep breath as she still had a duty to fulfill.

She walked to Atsumu who turned towards her with a ghost of a smile as Viola handed him his gym badge. Atsumu took the badge and turned around to walk away with Viola doing the same in the opposite direction, neither saying a word to the other.

" Why didn't they shake hands after that match? It was amazing, but why doesn't Atsumu look happy?" Serena asked as she looked at everyone else.

" It's because they both didn't get what they wanted from the match. " Ash said as they looked at him.

" Viola lost 3 to 0 to Atsumu. None of his pokemon were defeated at all and he still had one that he didn't reveal. He also outplayed Viola multiple times during the match. Viola must be beating herself up right now at how she performed. " Ash said with a calm expression on his face.

" As for Atsumu... I don't know. " Ash said as he stared at Atsumu who had excited through the gym doors with Dragapult.

" I see. " Serena said as she stared at Ash with ideas eyes.

Clemont nodded his head in agreement with Ash's words. He felt the same way multiple times before while Bonnie just rocked back and forth while holding the railings, thinking about the match.

Ash then walked towards the exit with everyone following him.

" So where are we going now? " Serena asked.

" The pokemon center. I need to heal Fletching before leaving. I want to ask Atsumu some questions. " Ash said as his smile returned and an excited look in his eyes mirrored b Pikachu who shared his Trainers enthusiasm.

...

In one of the parks of Santalune City, near a tree we can see a Decidueye sitting underneath the tree, enjoying the shade while eating the donuts he bought from the store.

A bit away from where he was sitting, an Eevee and a Froslass were interacting. Eevee opened her mouth as a dark black and purple ball formed in front of her mouth before being launched straight towards the Froslass.

Eevee had used Shadow Ball.

The Froslass had a proud look on her face as she countered the Shadow ball with her own. Her shadow ball was much smaller than Eevee's but it was enough to go straight through the attack, before dissipating under Froslass's command.

' Well done. You've improved a lot since we started training. ' Froslass said in pride as she went over to Eevee who was on the ground, exhausted from the training.

' That's enough training for now. Time for a break. ' Frsolass said as she picked up Eevee gently and floated towards Decidueye who greeted her with a smile while Eevee closed her eyes to take a nap.

' She's improving rapidly. It will only be a matter of time till she reaches her dream..' Froslass said with a proud smile.

' I still can't wait for that to happen. Though I'm glad Atsumu researched the possibility first before trying. ' Decidueye said as Froslass landed on the ground.

' Yep. It would have been bad if he hadn't. Speaking of which, how did the gym battel go? ' Froslass asked curiously.

' Well they won, but they aren't exactly happy about it. ' Decidueye said with a sigh.

' Well, this is going to be a problem. ' Froslass muttered.

...

Decidueye, Froslass, Eevee, and Mimikyu looked at Atsumu and Dragapult who were laying on the ground with a depressed aura around them.

' Really? Like really? I thought I was going to have a long tough match but Noooooo. ' Dragapult whined, sighing after ranting.

' Tell me about it. That was disappointing. ' Atsumu said telepathically.

' What happened though? ' Eevee asked curiously. ' Aren't gym leaders super strong? They should be on the same level as the important battle tree trainers. '

' Well her pokemon were pretty strong and could give others run for their money. She was an extremely proficient trainer so there would be no doubt that she could beat a lot of other trainers. ' Froslass explained to Eevee.

' It's just that we and our trainer are way above her level in terms of strength, so we were going to win anyway. ' Decidueye said.

' So then what's the problem? ' Eevee asked. ' Why are they depressed? '

' It's because they EXPECTING a challenge but instead they received a ONE-SIDED MASSACRE! " Mimikyu explained to Eevee.

' Oh, I get it now. ' Eevee said.

' She didn't understand a thing. ' Decidueye and Froslass thought while deadpanning at the scene.

' Exactly! ' Atsumu said as he raised his hand into the air before getting up to a sitting position.

' You're already getting old. I heard a couple of bones crack. ' Decidueye said to Atsumu with a straight face.

' Oh shut up, they did not. ' Atsumu said with an insulted look on his face.

' Besides I'm still 23 years old. ' Atsumu said with a yawn at the end as Decidueye rolled his eyes.

' Congrats, you're an old man. ' Decidueye said as Atsumu rolled his eyes.

' At least use some good insults. ' Atsumu said.

' Can we get some food so I can ignore my pain? ' Dragapult pleaded.

' That's a good idea. I suggest ice cream. ' Froslass said with a smile.

' I could go for ice cream right now. ' Decidueye said with a nod.

' Ice cream is comfort food! Hell yeah, I want vanilla! Good ol' Vanilla. ' Mimikyu said with joy.

' Fine with me. I need something else to think about anyway. ' Atsumu thought as he stood up.

' Oh...Oh...Can I come along, dad? ' Eevee asked as she wagged her tail.

' Of course, you can. ' Atsumu said with a smile as he brought out their pokeballs, making everyone but Eevee return.

' Let's go get some ice cream. ' Atsumu thought with a happy smile on his face.

' Yeah. ' Eevee said with a joyful smile as jumped around in happiness, her tail wagging speed increasing.

...

Ash walked around Santalune City with Pikachu on his shoulders. They continued to search for Atsumu to ask him a few questions but haven't been able to find him even after asking a few helpful strangers.

" Can't see them. Pikachu, what about you? " Ash asked.

Pikachu shook his head before his ears picked up on some yelling close by.

' Hey let's check over there. ' Pikachu said as he grabbed Ash's pants and pointed in a certain direction. Ash looked at him and understood Pikachu by his movements.

" That way? Okay, let's go. " Ash said.

They ran as Pikachu could hear the screaming get louder and Ash could hear it as well. They looked down the street to see Atsumu walking around with bags in his hands with a Froslass and Eevee by his side, the bags being surrounded in heavy mist.

' Let me eat the ice cream now!! ' Eevee demanded as she looked at Atsumu.

' No! ' Atsumu said with a serious expression on his face.

' Why?!!! ' Eevee whined.

' Because all of us need to eat as well. ' Froslass explained.

' Besides, you'll just gobble everything up in one go before eating all the other ice cream as well, leaving none left. ' Atsumu said as he looked at Eevee.

Eevee pouted and looked away, not happy that she couldn't have her ice cream yet while Froslass just shook her head in amusement while Atsumu kept walking.

Being a father is hard work.

" Hey, Atsumu! " Ash yelled as he ran towards Atsumu with Pikachu beside him.

" Hmm, oh hey Ash. " Atsumu said with a calm smile as Ash stopped in right in front of Atsumu.

" Not to question your stupidity, but why did you decide to run around trying to find me instead of waiting for me at the pokemon center? " Atsumu asked.

" Were you going to visit the pokemon center? " Ash asked.

" Yes. " Atsumu said, deadpanning.

' He's probably messing with us. ' Pikachu muttered as he looked at Atsumu.

' Or he could be telling the truth. ' Froslass commented.

' Hmmm... ' Pikachu hummed as he looked at Froslass skeptically while she had she smiled sweetly at Pikachu.

" So what did want to ask? " Atsumu asked as he motioned Ash to walk with him to the pokemon center.

" After your match with Viola, you didn't seem happy with your win. Why is that? You managed to defeat Viola easily with your pokemon, shouldn't you feel happy about it? " Ash asked as Atsumu glanced at him from the corner of his eye.

" Let me answer that with a question. " Atsumu said which got Ash's attention.

" Tell me, Ash. What is a pokemon battle? " Atsumu asked with a serious look on his face, his eyes glaring down at Ash.

Ash shivered at the stare but regained composure before thinking about the question.

What is a pokemon battle?

He was knocked out of his thoughts when Atsumu started to speak again.

" Is it a battle between 2 pokemon only, even when there are two trainers on the opposite sides of the field?

Is it a trainer and his pokemon up against the opponent's pokemon only?

Or is it a battle between two trainers? " Atsumu asked as he kept walking with Ash following behind him.

" The answer is simple. It's none of the above. A pokemon battle is between a pokemon and its trainer working together to win against their opponents, a pokemon and trainer combo. " Atsumu said as Ash kept quiet while listening to Atsumu.

" There are other ways to secure a victory. One of them is to break the confidence of the trainer. " Atsumu said non chalontly.

" Even if one pokemon goes down, as long as you keep a level head and use your remaining pokemon to your advantage, you can still win a battle. But if you lose that confidence, you will lose. " Atsumu said as he stopped to look at Ash who stopped in response.

" So tell me. Why am I disappointed? " Atsumu asked as he looked down on Ash.

Ash stared at him without making any movements before Atsumu stopped.

Atsumu sighed as he went back to his default expression.

" Well, either way, I have 7 more to go. " Atsumu said as he started to walk back to the pokemon center, Ash following behind him.

As Ash followed Atsumu, a single question ran through his mind.

Why did Atsumu tell him this?

" Viola... " Alexa called put as she entered the back door of the gym that connects to a common area that Viola uses to take a break from gym battles.

Viola snapped out of her thoughts as she looked towards her sister before giving off a weak smile in return.

" Hey sis. " Viola said as Alexa walked towards her, sitting on the chair next to Viola.

" You probably heard already huh? " Viola asked.

" Yeah. I encountered Ash and his gang. He told me that he won his gym battle against you, which was nice to hear since I helped him train for it, but also that you faced off against another challenger...and lost. " Alexa said as she waved her hands a bit to get her point across before looking at Viola who stared at the ground.

Silence issued as Alexa grew anxious.

" Viola... " Alexa whispered in worry, leaning forward to her sister.

" I'm fine, Alexa! " Viola said as Alexa recoiled back while Viola took a deep breath and let it out.

" I'm... fine. " Viola said.

" Okay. " Alexa said.

" Yeah. Don't worry, I'm fine. It's just...I hadn't felt the brutal sting of losing in Ina long time...you know. I mainly faced off against newbie trainers using pokemon that I hadn't trained to their full potential... " Viola said as she looked at the wall, which was covered in many beautiful pictures she's taken over the years, one of them being when she placed in the top 16 in her first pokemon league.

" So when I ended up getting the first real fight in a long time, I was excited, but I guess I overestimated myself... " Viola said, as the memories of the battle replayed in her head. Her pokemon falling, one after the other.

" And I lost miserably. 3 to 0 in his favor. " Viola said as she clenched her fists while her lips trembled.

" I see. " Alexa said. She wasn't able to feel the same way her sister did about battles. She never had the same spark as Viola.

Viola sighed as she released her grip and slumped back into her chair.

" I need to start training again. I've lost my touch. " Viola said as she stared at the ceiling, before stating the following promise, " Once I finish, ill challenge him again and wipe that persona off him. "

Alexa smiled. There's the sister she knew. She knew Via wouldn't forget about this match in the slightest, but it will drive her forward.

" So...who's the guy that beat you anyway? " Alexa asked.

Viola looked at her sister before handing Alexa her iPad.

" Atsumu Miya aka The Trickster. 23 years old. Participated in the island trials at the age of 20 and won the previous Alola league at the age of 22 before deciding to come to Kalos to participate in the gym challenge. " Viola said seriously.

" He beat all the Island trials! " Alexa exclaimed.

Though Alola might not have a gym challenge circuit like other regions, the Island Challenge isn't a cakewalk comparing them side by side. Many have tried the Island challenges before with every few completing all of them, Atsumu Miya being one of them as well Professor Kukui, the regional professor of the Alola region.

" Yes. He's also a ghost specialist and very skilled at his specialty. " Viola said as Alexa looked at the pokemon that Atsumu used in the Alola league.

" So he can carry thirteen pokemon with him at all times now? " Alexa asked.

" Yes. " Viola said.

Once a trainer has won a pokemon league, they can carry up to thirteen pokemon at a time.

" I see. Have you notified the other gym leaders? " Alexa asked.

" Of course. I contacted them immediately and sent them the gym battle I had with him as proof. " Viola said.

Alexa bobbed her head at Viola's words. All she knew is that the other gym leaders were going to have to deal with the Trickster.

In the Cyllage City gym, at the top of the large rock climbing walls that were built by the gym leader, stood the leader himself.

Grant.

He stared at the screen with a contemplating expression. One of his best friends, Viola, just got destroyed by the challenger, Atsymu Miya in the gym battle they had.

' He's strong. ' Grant thought before a wide smile appeared on his face as he shook from excitement.

" I can't wait to have a match against him. " Grant said as he laid on his back, looking at the ceiling of his gym.

" I need to start training. I'm not going to lose that match. " Grant said before gaining a cheeky smile. " After all, I can rub it in Viola's face once I win. "

He got up from the ground and went to the common area in his gym to retrieve his regional pokemon.

He went back out before releasing his pokemon out onto the field.

Before him, stood a...

Aerodactyl.

Drednaw.

Coalossal.

" Alright listen up! " Grant yelled with a smile.

" I've got some good news, I'll be using you in a gym battle. " Grant said which took his pokemon by surprise.

" That's right. This will be our first real match in a long time!! So get your game faces on! Aren't you excited?! " Grant asked.

His pokemon roared in excitement at their trainer's question, causing the entire gym to shake.

...

" Holy crap!! " Korrina yelled as she looked at the screen.

" Language. " Her grandfather, Gurkinn the evolution guru, said sternly.

" Sorry Grandpa, but I can't ignore this! He beat that Mega Pinsir with no difficulty what's so ever! " Korrina gushed as a smile appeared on her face, the adrenaline kicking in from the excitement.

" He finessed Viola's gym challenged. " Korrina said, emphasizing the word ' finesse '.

" I wonder if he has a mega evolution of his own that he can use in his battle with me?! " Korrina squealed as she imagined the battle between her Mega Lucario and Atsumu's mega evolution.

" Maybe a mega Bennette, a mega Gengar, or even mega Sabelye! " Korrina exclaimed, going through the recorded ghost types that can mega evolve.

Gurkin sighed but shook his with a smile as he watched his granddaughter get excited over a match. Though the truth is that he is also curious. He doesn't see a keystone on Atsumu's person when he challenged Viola but that question can easily be solved.

' I wonder which pokemon he can he mega evolve? ' Gurkin thought.

...

" Ho Ho Ho... " Ramos chuckled as he looked at the video while drinking his afternoon tea while his Gogoat watched from the sides.

" It seems a young whippersnapper is going to be quite the challenge for us once he arrives. " Ramos commented as he stroked his beard with a calm smile.

" But that's future me's problem. " Ramos said with a happy expression on his face as he continued to drink his tea with biscuits on the side.

Gogoat sighed at his trainer's reaction before going back to lay down and get some sleep under the warm sun.

...

" He's raised his Mimikyu well. " Valerie commented while replaying the match, an impressed smile on her face.

" He will be quite the troublesome opponent..." Valerie sighed before a competitive smile appeared. " Yet, I'm excited to see how the match will turn out. " Valerie said softly as she closed her laptop gently.

She took out her sketchbook, grabbed a pencil, and started to draw out new clothes to make, feeling inspired by the match she witnessed.

" So he's here. " Olympia said as she looked at the video for the first time. She merely stared at the screen with her two Meowstics by her side, watching the match with her. The possible futures that can occur, flickered through her mind. yet one thing was certain.

Atsumu's role...

was uncertain.

...

" Hahahaha... " Wulfric bellowed as he finished the match.

" Interesting. Very interesting. It seems I'll be able to go all out for once!! How exciting!!! " Wulfric yelled as he stood from his chair and continued to laugh as his coat hung onto his shoulders.

" I can hardly wait!! "
