5 Egg hatching

Somewhere in Vermilion City, the southern breeze continued to blow towards the city. The Vermilion City Pokemon Gym is a popular place for Pokemon Trainers to test their skills.

Trainers would challenge the Pokemon Gym Leader to an official Gym Battle. If they win, they'll obtain an official Gym Badge. At this time, a young man with medium and wavy black hair is lying on the wall just outside the Gym.

'If there's a safe place in Vermilion City, it would be this place' Folker thought inwardly.

Running away from trainer battles? Who does that?

"Ah, that felt great! You did well, Scyther. You're the best. Now let's get you some rest" Folker said while panting.

Despite running away, Scyther wasn't displeased with its trainer. It did its best but it's already tired, not to mention that he doesn't even know if Eric still had another Pokemon left. It judged that it would be risky continuing the battle. It knows that running away is the best course of action, and his trainer did just that.

Scyther nodded at Folker as he called Scyther back to its Pokeball.

Normally, running away from battles is frowned upon by Pokemon Trainers. Trainer Battles usually come with a bet using Pokedollars. The trainer who won the battle would walk away with the prize money. Of course Trainers could still choose not to Bet.

If a Trainer lost a battle and ran away, the opposing Trainer could file a complaint to the Pokemon Alliance in the Kanto Region. As long as the Trainer had evidence and proved that his opponent ran away, the Alliance would revoke that runaway Trainer's License.

The Pokemon Alliance is an alliance of strong Pokemon Trainers, formed to mitigate the dangers of the Pokemon World as well as enforce rules to protect the rights of both Pokemon and Humans.

Without the presence of the Alliance, crimes could go out of hand. Poachers would wantonly and irresponsibly poach rare Pokemon, endangering them. All sorts of criminal organizations like Team Rocket would pop out of nowhere. Even with the Alliance, Team Rocket was still able to exist underground, proving its formidable power and influence in the Pokemon World.

The Pokemon Alliance also helps in managing Trainers and hold Tournaments with lucrative rewards that would attract Trainers to participate. In addition, the Alliance is responsible for authenticating Trainer Battles to guarantee that Trainers would honor their bets.

Trainers not registered to the Alliance could still do Battle with other Trainers but there would usually be no bets involved. Even if there are, the Alliance wouldn't guarantee the authenticity of the bet. In that case, Trainers could irresponsibly run away from battle without paying. There are even some Trainers who held the bet and ran away with the money without even trying to Battle.

As for unregistered Trainers Battling, since there would be no bets involved, what would be the point of running away? Hence, running away isn't really common in Pokemon Battles.

Eric was unprepared for such a cowardly action. But it made sense. Running away would be harder had Scyther fainted and lost. It makes sense that Folker had to run away while Scyther still has energy to run.

Although there's no danger to Folker's life as Eric hadn't intended to kill him in the first place, Eric still coveted his money and, although he didn't say it, he also coveted his Pokemon. As a member of Team Rocket, stealing Pokemon is considered a normal thing to do.

As for Folker running away from a Trainer Battle, there's nothing he could do. Not that he's unregistered with the Alliance but he's trying to steal his money and Pokemon in the first place. There's no point in filing a complaint to the Alliance as it would only invite disaster upon himself.

Eric could only walk away in defeat. Although he wasn't actually defeated, his first Pokemon was still defeated. Had it been a one on one Battle, that would be his loss. In addition, his opponent also tricked him and ran away. He may have won the battle but he lost the war.

His purpose was to steal Folker's money as well as his pokemon in the first place. Not only does he have to pay to heal his fainted Zubat, he also gains nothing in the Battle. It was a wasteful action.

At this time, on a seemingly unassuming concrete house with orange roof, a typical Vermilion city style house, sat a young man with medium and wavy hair on a wooden chair as he held an incubator with an egg in it. Folker carefully held the egg inside the incubator and put it away.

He carefully caressed the egg, wondering once again what Pokemon it would turn out to be. It would be nice if it didn't have the same type as Scizor. Thinking about his Dad's pokemon, the thought of a strong Pokemon being added to his team excited him.

Suddenly the egg shook.

"Now that's unusual. Usually, it would only be in battles", said Folker as he put it on the egg on the ground.

Normally, whenever Folker is having a Pokemon Battle, the egg would lightly shake. He initially thought that it would finally hatch but the shaking would usually stop after a while and nothing would happen.

As Folker engaged in Pokemon battles, he noticed that it would shake lightly but as he thought about the previous time it shook, he just thought it wouldn't hatch anyway.

The egg continued to shake. Usually, it would only be in battles and it would stop after a while but this time, it didn't. He had a feeling that this time, it would hatch.

Folker then reached out to his pocket and grabbed a Pokeball. He released Scyther from its Pokeball in order to have it watch the egg hatch together with him.

'Scyther!'

A green mantis-like Pokemon appeared and let out a sharp cry. It then turned its gaze at the shaking Pokemon egg.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

Faint white light started appearing all over the egg as it shook wildly.

"Could it be?" Folker said with an excited tone.

Folker and Scyther stared at the egg excitedly, waiting for the Pokemon to hatch as cracks covered the shell of the egg.

Something tore a hole in the shell and the hole grew larger and larger. Finally, the Pokemon hatched and broke out of the egg.
