"Hello, Professor Oak speaking...who is this?"

"Professor, Vanessa here..... I think it's time"

"Ok, I will be there by tomorrow morning."

"Alright Professor, I will see you tomorrow."

'alarm rings alarm rings.....'

"ahhhhhhh, today is a big day for me.."

I wake up and go for a quick bath, I am too excited today and why not? Because it's going to be the day the legend begins.

After around 30 minutes I was ready, all dressed up, I put on my half-torn shoes and when I started getting out of the orphanage, I hear someone calling

"Jay...Jay wait... I need you to stay for today, it's really important ok." said Vanessa.

Miss Vanessa is a middle-aged woman with red hair and you can usually see some wrinkles on her face, I think she is in her forties but today she looks a bit younger than usual, she put on a beautiful dress. Are there any guests today? That's the only time she dresses up decently and applies makeup.

I look at her weirdly and say

"Miss Vanessa, does it have to be today? I am going to catch my first Pokemon and I am all hyped up."

"Jay I know that but can't you postpone it? there are still 20 days left before you leave right? There is an important guest coming today and he wants to talk to you. Trust me, you will be fan struck when you see him." said Vanessa.

"Really???? but if he is famous then does he need to talk to a nobody like me? I mean.... it sounds fishy but I think I will postpone my tasks for today."

"ahhh that's great, I knew I could count on you. But before you meet him, you need to take a test. It's just a small test on how knowledgeable you are on Pokemon. You can finish it in one hour and if you do well, you can meet the guest. This will be a golden opportunity for you so don't decline." said Vanessa.

"Ohhhhhh, although I don't know who this guest is, I will take the test for you."

Vanessa takes me upstairs to her room and gives me a question paper and a pen. I take a look around for a place to sit and solve the paper. I look through the questions and find them to be quite easy, most of the questions were on pokemon of different regions and hidden abilities. There was a question asking the evolution path of snorunt and oddish, and there was a question on Alolan and Galarian forms. Most of the questions might be impossible for the orphans to solve because they never had any education but I spent most of my time in the library so it was pretty easy. The only place I found it tough was on berries and breeding, I had very less knowledge on them because breeders monopolize the knowledge on them in this world. I only know common berries so I just filled the stuff I knew. I completed the test in 45 minutes and was confident about scoring at least 80%.

"Here Miss Vanessa, you can take the answer sheet, now what should I do...am I getting a starter Pokemon?"

"Hold your horses alright, starter Pokemon for this? you must be dreaming. Let me fax this and you wait till the guest comes." said Vanessa.

"Alright miss, I was just joking. I know I will never get a rare starter in my life. " I said dejectedly.

I waited for around 30 minutes and suddenly I feel something abnormal around me, it's like the space around me is warping and I feel the fluctuations. I think someone is teleporting here, maybe it's the mysterious guest. After a second I see a middle-aged man and a yellow-brown human-like fox with two spoons in it's hand.

'A fricking Alakazam'

'Ah shit the pressure it let out is making me dizzy and I don't feel my feet anymore'

I collapse down and I feel like someone is hammering me. Every part of my body feels crushed. "Shit ahhhhhh"

"Stop it Alakazam, Restrain your aura. You're not in the lab anymore, that kid will die if you don't stop." Said Professor Oak.

All the pressure inside the room goes down and Vanessa is taking it way better than I took it. The man in front of me is the only living Pokemon Master, Professor Oak. He looks a bit younger than I thought, in the early fifties maybe?

I see some black hair and fewer wrinkles when compared with the anime on earth.

[Sorry human, I stay in the lab's ranch all the time and everyone around me are used to my aura, I just forgot to restrain it] said Alakazam.

"Is that telepathy?????" I said.

"Oh yes, I am surprised that you are familiar with telepathy. Most psychics have the ability and any psychic can use it above king level." Said Professor Oak.

"Thanks for the info. It's an honour to meet you, Mr Oak. I am really surprised that you are the mysterious guest that wanted to meet me. I mean, I am sure that we never met each other." I said calmly.

"Calm and collected in the face of a master level Pokemon, matured enough to speak without stuttering or excitement in front of a Master trainer. Over all that, you scored an 85 on the League's final year academic paper, you can be placed in the top 15 with this score. I think he fits the bill, Miss Vanessa. After a wait of eight long years, we found someone who can go undercover." Said Oak talking to Vanessa.

I feel clueless and ignored. What do you mean by undercover? I have a bad feeling about this. God, don't tell me this is the trade-off for the system you gave and also where is the system?

In the last five years, I tried everything possible but couldn't get the appraisal system to activate. My conclusion was that it will activate when the karma trade-off for the system gets activated. Reincarnating in the Pokemon world had a fair trade-off, me being an orphan but for the system, God did not mention any trade-off. So I guess that he did not mention it so that he can enjoy my suffering.

'Fuck you, God.'

"Excuse me, Professor. May I know what's happening here? Miss Vanessa said that you wanted to see me and...."

"Alakazam explain to that kid while I talk with Vanessa here." Said Oak, cutting me off before I complete my sentence. After that Oak went with Vanessa to the other room to discuss something. (No other meaning guys)

It was only me and Alakazam now. There was an awkward atmosphere in the room for a second and Alakazam starts speaking telepathically

[Human, I know this might sound weird but Miss Vanessa is a Team Rocket member and every year, Team Rocket members take away the twelve-year-old kids from the orphanage to a mysterious island. Kids who pass the trials are recruited as main members of Team Rocket. Hu]

He gave a pause so that I can digest the information.....but fuck, that means I would have been kidnapped twenty days from now.

"But if you know that they are taking kids from the orphanage, you can follow them and save all of them right? If not that then the members who joined forcibly can reveal everything to the police after coming out of the island right?"

[You are right, we can go and save the people from the island but Team rocket has many islands where these trials go on. If they know that we are tracking them, they will go hide for a decade and come back again. Team Rocket has been operating for 30 years, they are very careful in their plans. A decade ago, we found this orphanage accidentally. This is the only lead we have on them. First, we thought it's happening in every orphanage but then we found out that they don't have a particular orphanage, we won't know from which orphanage they take people but Viridian orphanage has a lot of missing kids once every three years. People don't keep track on missing kids as many die in the forests due to Pokemon attacks so it's hard to keep track.]

Alakazam gave a pause and started again

[Kids who complete the trials never report back because Team rocket gives them food, pokemon and resources which the league doesn't. Though the main reason is not that....have you never found it odd that you never get proper meals or job outside even after pleading to everyone? normally after that, kids will start hating the people here and put their blame on the league who ignores their hard life. So that's when Team Rocket lends their hand, orphan kids at the age of 12 have weak minds. They turn to the side they get help from, some kids with maturity hate the world for the cruelty imposed on them and join Rockets to cleanse it. So either way, they don't report. Our theory is that the Team Rocket makes sure that the kids they kidnap go through hardships and hate the world by not letting them get any jobs or food.]

"Ok hold on, this is a lot to take in. So you guys are here because you are sure that the kidnap happens in this orphanage?"

[We are only a fifty percent sure. Oak is trying hard to make sure that the league provides the basic necessities to orphans and commoners but the league doesn't listen, I mean the nobles in the league think that this is an indirect way to give authority or rise to more families. You know that there is aristocracy here right? so they don't agree. Oak also thinks that Team Rocket has infiltrated the League and it's hard to trust anyone.]

"I get all that but why tell me all this? you seriously don't want me to willingly get kidnapped right?"
