Kanto - Fuchisa City

The next day after Ash's gym battle, Misty was battling Janine, she had called back one of her Poliwhirls as Daisy had commented he looked ready to evolve. Misty decided to use the gym battle as a push to help Poliwhirl get the experience he needed to become stronger. It was dangerous she knows but that's what substitute were for, you could sub your Pokemon out anytime. She only hoped she will not have to force Poliwhirl to battle.

Referee, "This is an official match between challenger Misty and Gym Leader Janine for the soul badge. Choose your Pokemon."

Janine, "Venomoth let's go."

Misty, "Misty calls Cloyster."

Referee, "Begin!"

Janine, "Venomoth sleep powder."

Misty, "Withdraw and icicle shard."

Cloyster withdrew from the poison powder, making Venonat frown and get closer to try put him to sleep. It was a mistake as the bug Pokemon got caught by the ice attack that froze him.

Misty blinked, 'That was lucky.'

Cloyster opened his shell looking smug, "Clo cloyster."

Referee, "Venomoth is unable to battle, Cloyster is the winner. Choose your next Pokemon."

Janine, "Huh, I didn't see that coming, not bad, let's go Voltrob."

Referee, "Begin!"

Janine, "Thundershock."

Misty, "Iron defense withdraw."

Cloyster's shell hardened using iron defense which made the electric attack flow through the shell to the ground harmlessly.

Misty, "Now ice beam."

Cloyster shot ice beam which the Voltrob rolled away from making him irritated before the shell Pokemon got an idea and shot the ground making Voltrob slip. Voltrob however refused to go down easily and used the ice field to increase his speed.

Cloyster -_-#, "Cloyster", 'Little brat ball.'

Voltrob (⌒o⌒), "Voltrob.", 'Old crone.'

Janine, "Tackle and self destruct."

Misty, "Cloyster use ice beam on the ground again and move away."

Cloyster used ice beam below it's she'll and used it to move out of the ball Pokemon's way, however Voltrob was stubbornly and kept following him.

Ash had to stiffle a laugh, "They are enjoying themselves."

Ritchie sweatdropped, "Cloyster looks annoyed."

Horace, "Gou is missing out."

Brock laughed, "You know Gou can't resist catching Pokemon."

Misty, "Icicle shard."

Janine, "Dodge and self destruct."

Cloyster used the shard but Voltrob jumped on it and rolled towards the shell Pokemon giving an eye smile before he self destructed leaving both Pokemon down and out.

Referee, "Voltrob and Cloyster are unable to battle. Choose your next Pokemon."

Janine, "Thanks old friend, let's go Grimer."

Misty, "Misty call Staryu."

Ash, "I didn't know she had a Grimer."

Ritchie, "It is a poison type."

Referee, "Begin!"

Janine, "Harden!"

Misty, "Harden then rapid spin."

Staryu hardened then started to spin around hitting the hardened opponent again and again till he flinched at one powerful attack.

Janine, "Use poison gas."

Misty, "Bubble to catch that gas and agility to get away."

Staryu moved away as he formed a bubble that about the gas before bursting and falling to the ground harmlessly.

Misty, "Now water gun."

Janine, "Toxic."

The water gun and toxic hit before Misty called out, "Now hydro pump."

Staryu increased his strength and the hydro pump hit Grimer knocking him out.

Referee, "Grimer is unable to battle, choose your next Pokemon."

Janine smirked, "Not bad for an upcoming Gym Leader."

Misty blushed pink, "Thank you."

Janine, "Now, let's go Beedrill."

Misty paled a bit but took a deep breath, "Return Staryu and let's go Poliwhirl."

Poliwhirl came out ready to fight and with a water stone tied around his neck on a string, "Poli poliwhirl."

Referee, "Begin."

Janine, "Fury attack."

Misty, "Hypnosis. Sleep Beedrill."

Janine, "Beedrill wake up."

Misty, "Now water gun."

The water gun hit Beedrill and knocked him out of the battlefield.

Referee, "Beedrill is unable to battle, Misty has won the match as well as the soul badge."

Misty cheered hugging Poliwhirl, "Alright mastering the Psychic move was so worth it. Even though it was difficult."

Poliwhirl eye smiled before he started to glow making Misty gasp, "Poliwhirl."

Infront of her stood a Poliwrath, "Poliwrath."

Janine, "Congratulations not only did you earn a soul badge your Pokemon evolved as well."

Misty smiled brightly, "Thank you Janine."

Janine smiled softly, "I look forward to seeing you join us Gym leaders, it'll be good to have another girl among us."

Misty laughed, "Of course, Janine."

The next day Ash stretched his arms after finishing training for the contest, he had sent Tauros back to the ranch so he could relax and get used to the new environment, plus meet the rest of the family. He had Jigglypuff sent to him after his gym battle, he was planning on using the little fairy type on the battle rounds. Jigglypuff was ecstatic and agreed to learn how to battle and took to learning pound and Fairy moves like a Golduck to water. Bulbasaur and Jigglypuff made quite an interesting team, on top of that he decided to use Togepi in the next gym battle. Fearrow went to join Pidgeot in making their nest and took a break till the contest was over before taking up his guide duties. Togepi was very happy to see Ash and finally meet Phantump, looks like staying at the ranch did the egg Pokemon some good.

Ash, 'Who knew there were Pokemon guides?'

His conversation with the Professor had been very enlightening, to say the least. Professor Oak had explained there was a group among the tourism industry that taught their Pokemon to guide tourist who did not want to be part of a big crowd. The Pokemon would take them around the place showing them the best places to visit and stay at and although they could not talk, the tourist had a guide book to explain. It was mostly trainers who wanted to take a break from training that took the service as well as a few others who were introverts in nature.

Ash grinned, 'Looks like Fearrow is shaping up to have a good career aside from battling.'

Lucario hummed feeling the content emotions coming from Ash while Phantump was on his shoulder. The aura Pokemon was sure most trainers would recognize Ash by now as the trainer who had a Phantump, he snorted at the thought. The next thing the good Professor talked about was the release date for the book, La Llorona, it would be next week after the contest. Ash was dreading yet looking forward to it, he only hoped he doesn't freak out over it, having aura that too active one could be a real pain sometimes.

Kingler nudged him, "Bhi?"

Ash pat his claw, "I'm fine buddy just lost on thought, Ritchie, Gou and Horace will be separating from us after Ritchie wins his soul badge."

Muk decided to hug him read glomp, "Muk muk."

Ash from under Muk, "I know you are here fore bud, thank you."

Lucario pulled Ash out amused, -Meema you knew quite well, at some point we will have to go by ourselves right?-

Ash, "I know, doesn't mean I won't miss them... Anyways let's get something to eat, I'm starving."

Ritchie only had one more badge to collect after getting the soul badge and that was the Viridian City badge. Ash joined the others for lunch before going to cheer Ritchie on his gym battle, unlike Ash who had a five on five, Ritchie was sticking to four on four.

Referee, "This is an official match for the soul badge between trainer Ritchie and gym leader Janine. Choose your first Pokemon."

Janine, "Go Venonat!"

Ritchie, "Let's go Jumpy."

Referee, "Begin."

Janine, "Venonat psybeam."

Jumpy jumped around to dodge the attack before Ritchie called out, "Now use pound."

Jumpy hit the Venonat hard making him move back.

Janine, "Confusion."

Jumpy was hit and looked around trying to search for her opponent.

Ritchie frowned before getting an idea, "Use double slap."

Jumpy ended up slapping herself which released her from the confusion before she Atta the Venonat again.

Janine, "Poison powder."

Ritchie, "Agility followed by fire punch."

Jumpy ran around to dodge the poison attack before hitting Venonat with a powerful Fire punch which knocked him out.

Referee, "Venonat is unable to battle, Aipom..... Jumpy wins. Choose your second Pokemon."

Janine, "Not bad, figures as one of Jessilina's friends you will be strong."

Ash was surprised, "You know each other?"

Janine shrugged, "We are friends, used to hang out together when we were starting out on our journeys. She was my rival when it came to having the best Poison type Pokemon. But that's all you are getting from me, let's go Venomoth."

Ritchie, "You still good for a battle Jumpy?"

Jumpy, "Ai!"

Referee, "Begin."

Janine, "Venomoth, psybeam."

Ritchie, "Dodge and tail slap."

Jumpy jumped high and used tail slap which nicked Venomoth just a but as he flew away from the monkey.

Janine, "Sleep powder."

Ritchie, "Use agility quick."

Aipom managed to dodge most of the sleep powder but she still was a little lethargic as some of the sleep powder fell on her.

Janine, "Again!"

Venomoth used more sleep powder on his opponent and put her to deep sleep.

Referee, "Jumpy is unable to battle, Venomoth wins. Choose your next Pokemon."

Ritchie, "Get some sleep Jumpy, now let's go Lily."

Lily stood tall, "Grovyle gro."

Referee, "Begin!"

Janine, "Sunny day!"

Ritchie, "Rain dance."

The sunny day was interestingly enough overpowered by the rain dance making Venomoth blink. He was all wet from the rain making it hard to stay flying especially with the wet wings.

Ritchie, "Leaf blade!"

Janine, "Use sunny day again to dry up."

The leaf blade hit Venomoth before he could use another sunny day, knocking him out.

Referee, "Venomoth is unable to battle Lily wins the match. Choose your next Pokemon."

Janine, "Return Venomoth, let's go Ekans."

Ekans, "Ekanssss."

Ritchie, "Be careful Lily."

Lily nodded, "Gro."

Referee, "Begin!"

Janine, "Poison sting!"

Ritchie, "Dodge and use bullet seed."

Lily dodged the poison attack and retaliated with bullet seed which hit Ekans.

Janine, "Dig."

Ritchie, "Careful Lily, listen don't look."

Lily no and took a deep breath before she closed her eyes to listen to where the poison Pokemon was moving. He was right below her and she jumped before he could bite her and used bullet seed again. Ekans hissed annoyed before using dig again.

Janine, "Use poison needles."

Ritchie, "Bullet seed."

Lily looked around searching for where he would come from before jumping again and retaliating with bullet seed when he shot poison needles.

Janine, "Wrap and bite!"

Ritchie, "Leaf blade."

As soon as Ekans wrapped himself around Lily, she used leaf blade to free herself however Ekans managed to bite her. Ekans fainted while Lily breath in and out heavily, the poison affecting her.

Referee, "Ekans is unable to battle, Lily wins. Choose your last Pokemon."

Janine, "Return, go Arbok."

Arbok, "Arrrrrbok bok."

Ritchie, "Return Lily, get some rest, let's go Zippo."

Zippo roared, "Zarrrrrr!"

Referee, "Begin!"

The last match was a bit one-sided in the end, Zippo won by leaps and bounds and Janine gave Ritchie his soul badge, "You know if you had used your Zippo was it? In the beginning, you could have easily won the match."

Ritchie laughed sheepishly, "I know but I wanted to give the others a chance to battle as well, so I chose to fight with Zippo in the end."

Janine, "Your other Pokemon are no slouch either, train them well and they'll be very powerful like Zippo."

Zippo rumbled proudly, "Zarrrrrr."

Ritchie grinned, "Yeah I know they will."

Ash, "Let's go celebrate."

Misty, "Yeah, this will be our last time together."

Gou, "Let's party."

Horace, "Jessilina and Jameson promised to meet us at one of the park right?"

Brock nodded, "Yup and I prepared a good lunch buffet for all of us, so let's go enjoy ourselves."

Ritchie laughed, "You know I'm not leaving till tomorrow for Viridian City right? My ride is actually tomorrow evening."

Ash, "Which is right after the contest, that means we will not have the time to celebrate, so come on let's go enjoy ourselves."
