"Why are you here?!" Dennis was slightly shocked, why would a strong trainer would be a shopkeeper in this lousy looking shop he thought to himself.

"Why? Is there a reason why I shouldn't be here in my own shop?" Joseph just smiled.

"You own this shop? Aren't you a trainer?" Dennis asked then he surveyed the items on the shelves.

"Why are asking obvious questions?" Joseph just gave him a lazy look and Dennis didn't ask any dumb questions anymore.

"Why don't you challenge gyms since you can beat me easily I'm sure that you can enter the Indigo Plateau? You will earn more being a trainer than being stuck in this shop." Dennis said then he grabbed some lava cookies and some restoration medicine.

"Maybe in the future." Joseph said then he took Siri to browse some news and memes in the PokéSNS, yes, memes are also a thing in this parallel world.

"5 Antidote, 5 Super potions, 3 Lava cookies and a Lemonade." Joseph placed all of those things in a bag then he calculated. "33,250 Poke dollars."

"So the price is just the same like PokeMart." Dennis paid the items and gave Joseph a last glance then he seriously said. "The next time we battle I will surely beat you, your Quilava and Farfetched!" Dennis left.

"Okay I'll be waiting." Joseph continued to scroll down with bored expression.

Dennis clenched his fist and promised himself to improve and take the championship instead of milking some weak trainers, and finally challenging the guy who gave him the taste of defeat of each of his best pokemons by one-shot.

Joseph's peaceful days continued for 2 days and he's lucky to be not found by the young man that acting like a spoiled brat. Also, the past days he also thought some benefits being a Gym leader of Viridian City.

Placing a large advertisement poster on each corner of the gym doesn't violate rules and regulations since the rules are just take care of the gym, accept at least 25 matches in a month which is not a problem to Joseph, use your specialty typing gym pokemons that provided by the league and lastly observe the challenger's attitude and will even if they're lost because the leader still have the power to give the challenger a badge based on leader's discretion.

Gym pokemons are the pokemons that the league will give you for free in case that your pokemon is too powerful to battle the challengers.

"And there are always many people passing by the gym." Joseph muttered. "I'll be using ground type pokemon huh... Since this region already have different pokemons from other region, I won't limit my self from picking gym pokemons."

Joseph finally decided to accept the offer and went back to the Viridian city gym to meet Lorelei.

Joseph arrived at the entrance of the gym.

"Seems like someone challenged Lorelei today, that guys was so fast it's just 2 months and he coll- oh I forgot that the 7 badge before challenging the gym isn't effective untill I take over this gym." Joseph muttered then he entered to see the on going battle.

"Paloswine use Ice Shard." Lorelei calmly instructed the Piloswine.

Piloswine roared and summoned a basketball sized chunk of ice and shot it at the challenger's Nidorino.

"Seems like I'm late to watch the battle." Joseph sighed when the informations on the large screen on the side of the battle area.

It's a 3 versus 3 match and the challenger only have his Nidorino while Lorelei's pokemon are still 3.

"Nidorino break it with Double Kick!" The challenger's forehead are full of perspiration this is his 2nd time challenging this gym its been 2 months since his first lose, there is a rule that if you lose the match in a gym you will need to wait a month to challenge again. He already wasted 2 months in Viridian city gym and he only have 10 months to complete the 8 major gym badges before the League will proceed to Indigo Plateau for the real Tournament.

Nidorino jumped and kicked the Ice Shard but his expectation not happened, instead Nidorino was thrown away by the impact and smashed to the wall.

"Nidorino fainted, Challenger Julian is out of pokemon. Gym Leader Lorelei won this match." The referee shouted.

The challenger named Julian sighed and took back his Nidorino to its pokeball.

"You did great, we will train more then we will challenge this gym again." Julian muttered to the pokeball of Nidorino then he looked at Lorelei's direction. "Thank you for the battle Ms. Lorelei."

Lorelei smiled then nodded at him and gave him some pointers. Julian's attitude and will to fight is good too bad that his pokemons aren't conditioned to take the battle and needs him to train it more.

Soon the challenger left then Lorelei's attention was focused on the sudden visitor.

"Hello Mr. Johnson." Lorelei gave Joseph her best smile.

"Good afternoon Ms. Lorelei, I'm here to accept the terms on taking over this Gym." Joseph also genuinely smiled at Lorelei.

"That's a great news, wait a moment I'll call the League HQ." Lorelei immediately took her phone from her pocket and called the League HQ.

Few moments later Lorelei put her phone back to her pocket. "The league approved it, you can check your Trainer ID to see if it's already updated."

Joseph immediately took the high-tech trainer ID and saw that the display actually changed.

There is now a big logo of Earth Badge on the background of his ID and there's Viridian City Gym Leader written under his name.

"It looks good." Joseph nodded while inspecting the ID.

"A team of League Agents will come here later for you to sign the contract to become an officially hired and also to lend you Gym pokemons of your choice well, using personal pokemons are also permitted but they should not reach elite four level." Lorelei explained some details again.

"I will just pick and use the Gym pokemons to battle." Joseph was too lazy to farm levels and EVs of new pokemons and decided to use the pokemons the league will lend him then slap the heads of pokemons with TMs inside the game and overdose them with drugs.

Joseph and Lorelei chatted for a while. The two are getting closer to each other like they known each other for a long time because of Joseph's carefree demeanor that makes others lower their guard when talking with him.

Soon an advanced looking aircraft landed on the large space outside the Gym.
