Happy raksha-bandhan to All my desi bhaiyo and beheno

Was a pretty busy day, so please forgive any grammar or spelling mistakes for this chapter

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We got to stay at the Cinnabar Island for a couple more days as the girls got their shot at the gym. We spent a lot of time with David when he was not busy being thy gym leader and got to learn a lot from him. I requested his help in helping any of our Pokemon that can, learn Extrem Speed, from one of his many Arcanine of different levels, if possible. At the end, only Tauros had some success, but even he had not completely mastered the move, and only learnt a bastardised version of it.

Ava had a tough time, but in the end, her Tentacool was able to take on Ninetails due to its type advantage and even got a solid hit at incoming rapid dash before going down to its speed.

Bronzor was able to compeat with it on a much better scale. It was still a lot slower but it's whole stratagy depended on it getting hit, then reflecting the damage back twice as strong. It was able to take the beating and still beat Rapidash. The Incoming Arcanine had the ability intimidate, who's effect, bronzor was able to reflect using Psycho Shift, reducing the Arcanine's attack. With its last breath it was able to take a direct hit from Arcanine using the move endure, and then used explosion while it was still in contact with it, sacrificing itself for a massive damage on the Arcanine.

The last leg of the match became an injured Arcanine vs fresh Tauros. It was a match of Extreme Speed vs Extreme Speed. Taurus was at a disadvantage due to not having mastered the move, but it's same type attack bonus and Arcanine's already injured state was enough to make it an even match. In the end Tauros was the last Pokemon standing, although barely. it even collapsed as soon as the match was declared.

Eve surprisingly had the most one sided match.David had decided to switch things up a bit and decided to start with Rapidash first instead of Ninetails.

Yamask had gotten all the experience fighting that Pokemon directly through its link with Bronzor, so Eve sent it out. Yamask followed a similar strategy to Bronzor, a stratagy straight out of Wobbuffet's playbook of taking Hits and hitting back harder using openings created from those hits. It was able to beat the Rapidash, while barely hanging on to life, or shall i say unlife(since it's a ghost type). It was even able to clutch a timely destiny bond to take out the Ninetails who attacked it full force as soon as it got out.

The fight between Lapras and Arcanine was much less interesting to see, as lapras used perish song to start the match, putting a timer on Arcanine to beat Lapras by, or else they both get KOed. Arcanine wasn't able to get through, due to lapras playing defensively, not needing to injure Arcanine, just stall it.

Soon they were both fainted on the ground with Eve still not even needing to use Tangela, her third Pokemon, resulting in her win. Her celebration was over the top, just like everything about her. It even made David wish he used his stronger team against her just so he wouldn't be subjected to her celebration.

My Ponyta even hatched on our last day there. I had already used my two days with the egg to try and teach it focus energy with help of Bronzor's telepathy. In preparation for its hatching in the deepest parts of the volcano that travelers are allowed to go, I asked it to use focus energy constantly in its egg form to take in as much of the environmental fire energy into itself at it could take.

The result was that my Ponyta had a much brighter blue flame(instead of normal yellow) that was not only more intense than average Ponyta, but also much more in quantity, acting not only as horse's mane, but a small layer was even acting as it's fur by covering it's whole body. Because the flames were translucent blue, it's skin looked to be silverish/moon coloured, despite being white.

With a Gym badge for each of us, we left the Cinnabar Islands feeling accomplished. We were travelling through the oceanic Route 20 on Lapras's back, towards east of Cinnabar Island, when we came upon SeaFoam island. David had told us that a cousin of his, Lorelei, ran a Gym there.

It was a minimalistic Gym that his father had built and used when cinnabar Island's volcano had erupted. When he resettled at cinnabar Island to reconstruct the community here, he offered the SeaFoam Gym to his niece Lorelei, who was an Elite 4 member at the time, when she told him that she was planning to retire from her old job. It was perfect for her as she could use the terrain and environment of icy cave much better to her advantage than he ever could.

We were able to meet Lorelei the same day we reached there, but we couldn't find an appointment to battle until the 2 weeks later.

We decided to camp in the ice caves and condition ourselves and our Pokemon for the freezing cold. We couldn't find ourselves a sun-lit area that was close enough to cold to reuse our camp plan from the volcano.

We were able to follow a much tougher training schedule than before, since the heat didn't drain away our stamina like in the volcano. The cold even helped numb our pain from the training, pushing us to go at it even harder.

We had Tangela try to teach as any of our Pokemon Sunny day at it could. Almost all of our Pokemon were able to learn it. After that we set the schedule such that at least one Pokemon other than Tangela, who could cast Sunny day was on camp, to keep the camp temparature more bearable than rest of the cave.

With most our Pokemon able to use Sunny day, we now had a constant source of sunlight. We were able to reuse our camp plan from before, except, instead of just normal water that is heated by environment, Lapras and Tentacool had to keep using Scald to keep the water around us hot.

What was even more surprising to me was that even all our fire type Pokemon preferred the hot water, rather than Cold icy air. Even Slugma, the literal lava Pokemon. Those fire type Pokemon, in turn helped keep the water hot enough mostly just by their presence, while also conditioning themselves against water type attack.

These fire type Pokemon were the most proficient in move Sunny day, second only to Tangela. So they stayed at the camp most of the time, powering and keeping up the Sunny day, while relaxing in the hot water. The fact that they were all young and couldn't match our intense training also played a part in this decision. they were even more effective against any ice type wild Pokemon that decided too try anything against the camp.

Tangela had even learnt basics of the move morning sun(recovery move), by combining her ability chlorophyll, the moves Stockpile and swallow and the presence of sunlight from sunny day.

With the hot water and sunny day regulating the temperature, we were even able to grow some plants again. We repeated the stratagy to replicate Thick Fat ability for our newer, fire type Pokemon as well, by having then learn Stockpile to more efficiently store the energy from food. Even Ava,Eve and myself are able to somewhat learn basics of Stockpile-ing energy, due to our experience with move Focus Energy.

We even learnt some ice type moves. I had tried to learn fire punch myself at the volcano, but I was barely able to produce any heat. Porygon told me, using his analysis that I was producing some heat, otherwise I would have just assumed that was ambient heat from being near volcano.

But here, after two weeks of intense practice, I was able to learn Ice Punch. Marigold also learnt ice punch, and even learnt the move Triple Axel . Nova was able to learn the moves Powder Snow and Icy Winds. my Pichu learnt the move Ice Fang.

Due to mostly being in hot water this entire training session, all our fire type Pokemon learnt the move Scald.

Lapras learnt the moves hail and Aura Veil and perfected it's other ice moves. Yamask was able to learn the moves Haze and mist.

Bronzor and Yamask also worked with my Porygon to learn the ability Analytic. With their playstyle, they always move after the opponent, and this ability will make their counter or mirror coat much more powerful.

Taurus learnt the move Icicle Crash, for which it surrounds itself in ice energy and charges at the target. Tentacool learnt ice beam and practiced sliding on the frozen floor, to increase its movement when on land, especially now that it could freeze any ground with ice beam . Another benifit of freezing the ground is that it acts like the Move Substitute against ground type moves, i.e, a ground type move has to break the ice before it can hit a Pokemon on it.

At our designated date, we meet up Lorelei at her gym. Our Pokemon are pretty Overleveled for what is only our second Gym battle. Even our fire type Pokemon that had gained experience only from defending our camp, and only learnt Scald as a new move, were pretty resistant to her ice type attacks. This was because of them conditioning against water and the development of bastardised version of the ability Thick Fat.

We pretty much stream rolled Lorelei's team of Lapras, Jinx and Dewgong. She could only use her less powerful Pokemon due to us lacking more than one badge. Her Jinx was weak to fire, so we each had a counter for it. My Pichu was much more effective against the other 2 Pokemon than it had been in the last Gym.

For Eve, she dealt with other two Pokemon with Yamask using Destiny Bond and Lapras waiting out a Parish Song.

Ava dealt with them much more head on than Eve did. Her Taurus had to take down the opponent's Lapras in a bitter battle, having prepared for it by fighting Eve's Lapras during our training. Tentacool had wet the ground it passed by , by using Aqua ring. whenever Dewgong used Ice beam, Tentacool would Dodge and let it hit the ground, turning it into ice. although Dewgong was also effective Skater on ice, Tentacool was able to use her poison moves to poison it and slowly Dodge it's attack and wait out for poison to beat it.

After we beat her, she was impressed by our proficiency with ice moves, even for the Pokemon that are not ice type and whose species doesn't learn Ice moves. Even ours would not have learnt them if not for the environment factors helping our Pokemon. the Pokemon were just relearning moves they already knew ,but with ice energy instead of other energies to produce over type moves.

Pokemon Gym are primarily a place for learning and training as their names might suggest. the challange is just a secondary function that is incentivised by the league. Nobody opens a Gym just to accept challengers. they open it to train the younger generations and challengers are just a good way to scout new members. It also helped that the league offered various benifits to a Gym for accepting challenges from trainers.

Lorelei saw a lot of potential in us and asked if we would like to learn from her gym. I requested that she help any of our Pokemon learn the move Frost breath, a move that always lands critical hit if it lands. Only Lapras was able to learn it. We had to wait almost a week for it to be able to perform it to Lorelei's standard, only after which she gave us permission to leave. not that we asked for it, but I guess elite trainers are wierd that way.
