9 PALLET TOWN

A/N: my stories are more in the style of journal than a scene/play. so most of the time I will be paraphrasing dialogue instead of writing charcters. if any of you think of a dialogue line that would fit my paraphrasing to be either funny, badass, dramatic or cool in any way or form, please set the dialogue (quote) in paragraph comment .

We reach pallet town before night. there are no hotels in the town so we have to camp to with other kids who are here to get their starters. There are atleast 30 children here, which seems to be the limit for Oak Coral. Ava was Ranked 50 and Eve was Ranked 55, yet they were still one of the higher ranked individuals here.

A lot of people higher ranked must have had higher resources from family or organisations to get the best tuition to rank so high. Most of these people can afford better Pokemon or have grown up with one they want to be their starter, like the girls have Yamask and Bronzor.

Quite a few of the children tell how this was their second choice, how they would love to get a Dratini as their starter if they got top 5 or would have had a chance to get an Abra or some other Pokemon they want more, if only the scored higher. We sleep the night off and I don't use the move rest as it would put me in a trance that would make me less aware of my surroundings.

We wake up early and reach Oak Coral. They ask me for my ID and my rank, but I tell them I'm just here to be with my friends as they get their starters and that I already have mine. They are unsure if they should allow me in with the rest of examinees. I tell him that the Professor might be expecting me and I tell him my name. He immediately recognises my surname and apologised to me. He told me that my mother had already told the professor to expect me and that he is eager to meet me when the starter ceremonies are over.

They give us all a tour of the facility and then take us to a hall to explain to us the procedure of choosing the starter and for an orientation speech from Professor Oak. The examinees are given their choice of startes from the three best known ones of Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmender. There are some other Pokemon as options but those the are the best ones, but still some would choose the others for their cuteness or rare typing. they take us to the open area where all the young Pokemon awaiting a trainer are kept.

There were 12 people who got to go before Ava and Eve. Only 1 of them chose a Pokemon other than those three, that being a singular Ghastly that the professor had for this year's starters. Ava found a bullheaded young Tauros with a personality much like hers. They bonded quite well as she climbed on him and he tried to make her fall off. Due to her fitness from the Dojo, Ava is able to hold on to her position until the young Tauros was tired and accepted defeat. Quite Unsurprisingly, she chose him as her starter.

Similarly Eve found a prankster lapras who got along well with her. A lot of people before her had tried to get to the lapras , but all of them were treated to weak water gun to soak them. When they continued to pursue in anger at it, the Lapras would freeze the ground it just soaked with water to make them slip.

Eve also got a similar treatment, but instead of getting angry at the lapras, she found it quite funny and laughed it off. Wanting to get revenge for the prank, she remembered her sisters performance with her choice and decided to jump on lapras's back and grab on to its neck to stay there. The lapras tried to get her off by doing fast manoeuvres over and under water. Eve was having fun and was laughing as if she was on a roller coaster.

But she was not able to hold on for long and had to let go due to the pressure from underwater speed. She looked to be unconscious making all of us and lapras worry. Professor Oak,me and Ava makes our way to the lake in worry as lapras tried to check on Eve as it feels guilty about hurting a playful child. When it brings is face closer to Eve's , she opens her eyes and spouts a jet of water (like a spit take) from her mouth on to lapras and starts laughing and saying Gatch'ya.

All of us relax upon seeing her safe and some even laugh at her antics. Professor seems to be holding his humor back as he looked unamused at Eve and scolds her light-heartedly for nearly giving the old man a Heart attack. The lapras on the other hand is laughing in her beautiful song like voice at Eve's revenge. When Eve asks it to be her partner,it immediately agrees.

At the end of the ceremony 24 of the 30 had chosen from standard starters. The examinees are given a sponsorship option where they will get a small stipend , but they will have to do some tasks for professor Oak. Another benifit of the sponsorship was that they will get a Pokedex from Oak Coral.

Pokedex are a popular item availabile on open market, but professor Oak is the inventor of Pokedex, so his perticular ones give much more detail of scanned Pokemon and also has an app where professor Oak can give out task to trainers affiliated with him. These tasks help one gain fame and money and sometimes can also offer up rare resources that cannot be bought on open market. For people who are not from big clans or rich families, these tasks are some of the only ways they can get their hands on some treasured items.

Professor Oak is well connected in this world as one of the highest authority on Pokemon biology and research. Often when the League or Pokemon Association needs something done, and their own forces are tired up or the task is too much above or under their pay grade, they approach Oak or other clans for such tasks. I was told by my dad that often, many clans also have similar task system, but most of them are still old school, where members have to take task from a dedicated task building in their clean compound, rather than modernised app.

15 out of 30 children choose to become sponsored by Oak Coral. They were informed of their benifits like free stay at PokeCenter and other Pokemon Association related benifits that professor Oak was able to negotiate for them.

After all this was over, the girls and rest of examinees went back to their tents, to either pack up and leave immediately or to prepare for the start their journey the next day. I was called for by the professor so I stayed behind.

The professor greeted me and told me about his relation with my mother. My mother was one of the trainers that Oak Coral sponsered when she was young. He later helped her get an apprenticeship with Professor Elm in Jhoto after she was done adventuring.

Although Professor Rowan was a better choice for her as they shared the research topic of Pokemon evolution , Oak recommended Professor Elm because he personally belived that each Pokemon goes through atleast one common evolution, even if they belong to a species with no evolution. that is the evolution of a Pokemon egg into a Pokemon.

His decision turned out to be right as my mom leeward a lot from the world's premier expert in Pokemon breeding. Later on in her career, Whenever she has to talk to Professor Rowan as a fellow researcher , she always felt that they were very incompatible and that she would have given up on the profession if she had to bare with him as her primary mentor when she was just starting out. He was never rude or impolite, but always dismissive of her ideas and belived himself to be her better. After that she was more grateful that Professor Oak recommended Professor Elm.

Professor Oak then told me how my mom had request for him to revive a Pokedex from Oak Coral. It was actually her own Pokedex that she submitted when she went to Jhoto to be Professor Elm's apprentice. She was not required to give it up as it was hers for life, but she did so anyway as a symbolic gesture to herself that her adventuring days are behind her.

She still had remote access to it as long as she has her trainer ID, password and an internet connection. Once I took it from professor, I asked him how to use it and he showed it to me. He told me that this would have been considered and older model, but my mom had updated it remotely. It's hardware was still a bit older, but it was just different in terms of fashion and look, current versions had the same functionalities that it always did.

I thanked him for the stories of my mom and for the Pokedex. I then left for the tent as well, video calling my mom from the Pokedex on my way there. My mom greeted me and asked me how did i like her surprised. I liked the Pokedex a lot but it was not too impressive if you asked me. The best thing about it is it's connection to my mom and her past but that has no pratical value, only emotional.

I still don't let my mom know what I'm thinking and tell her that I love it and acted very grateful. Plus, my dad may have been the one to give me the Porygon, but I knew that my mom was the one that bought it and gave it all those passive abilities as part of her research.

My mom laughed at me and started calling me her little gentlemen trying to keep her feelings from getting hurt. She then smirks and tells me that the gift is not over yet. She tells me that the Porygon my dad gave me was holding a lot of Porygon corpse material.(disturbing)

It was not visible to me due to Porygon using conversion to shape it around itself into a coating. She told me that my Pokedex's software has been updated to accept my Porygon as an AI and that the extra Porygon material she gave him will help me update the hardware.

She explained how this Pokedex would then be able to take shape of whatever accessory I want, like a bracelet, glasses or something of similar size, due to Porygon's move, Conversion. She explained that all but the oldest Pokedex have had the Silph scope technology embedded in them, so if I use it as glasses, it can even help me look for invisible things.

I was very happy with this as I suggested Rotom to my mom in the first place because I wanted a Rotom Pokedex in the future. But now I feel like I have something even superior. Normal Pokedex can only tell the species of Pokemon it scans and information common to all of its species. My Pokedex can tell it's abilities, it's moves, it's Held item and it's stats as well, because of the added abilities on Porygon.

I even tried scanning myself and I could see it tried to compute my fighting and psychic moves. It cannot yet tell what moves I can perform, but it has already identified the fighting and psychic energy within me.

Finally, so long after my rebirth, I have a system for myself. And I had a huge role in its creation as I was the one who gave my mother the idea of using Porygon as an AI and to try to teach him all those information gathering abilities.

The Pokedex can show me my stats and that of others. It can give me quest through the Oak Coaral task app , which even my mother uses to give out task, for data collection and such. Only thing now missing is an inventory function. Not for long if I have any say. Just have to steal/borrow/aquire/rent/outsource the Devon Corps infinite space bag technology.
