Cerulean City

"Here's your Pokemon young man, is there anything else I could do for you!" Nurse joy exclaims handing me back two Pokeballs and a fluffy Clefairy. Taking my Pokeballs, I grab my Clefairy with one arm and hold it on my side.

"I'm here to recieve my regional starter." I say with a tired tone as Clefairy was trying to wiggle out of my grasp.

"Cle fairy cle fairy!" The ball of fluff growled out trying to escape. Tightening my hold on Clefairy, it proceeds to give up and just hang there like a doll.

'Bro…'

Speechless about its act, I looked down at the playing dead Clefairy.

Hey it didn't want to be in a Pokeball and I don't trust it not wondering around as I'm not stupid. So dragging it under my arm when I'm bored is the best it will get.

Unless I feel like cuddling with Clefairy then that's different.

Nurse Joy finding the situation funny, giggled a little bit as she lead me to another room.

"Your information says you're from Pewter City, did your parents or caregivers tell you to come here?" Nurse Joy said seemingly impressed.

Noticing her gaze I realise she figured out why I came to Ceruelan for my starter. But she didn't mention my parents so she didn't delve into my information.

Smiling at her comment I just nod.

In Kanto, the League has three City's that mainly breed the three famous starters and monopolise them.

This makes the starters in the wild extremely rare but weak. Starters bred by the league in its separate places go through loads of genes which they find the best one for trainers.

With this comes starters that are way bigger than wild ones, more disciplined and tame which is a huge w.

Not sure if this is the same for other regions though.

The places I'm talking about are Cinnibar Island, Celadon City and Cerulean City.

Cinnabar has Chamrander.

Celadon has Bulbasaur.

While Cerulean which is where I am right now contains Squirtle. These Pokemon do get spread out throughout the region to give each new trainer a starter.

But obviously the City would save the best of its given breeding Pokemon to trainers in its city. This helps them recieve more attention and get farther in what ever field they chose.

I mean whenever a battle over TV, public domain, shows or what ever. The name of the person's city is always said.

Battles, contests, show cases, the City folks obviously want people from their City to win these events. And this also includes the breeders and who spread out the Pokemon.

There will always be bias and unfairness in the world and in this case you can't stop it.

"And I take it you want a Squirtle?" Nurse Joy asks walking up to a machine.

"Yes please!" I say happily.

"Clefairy!"

Clefairy feeling my happy emotions, starts to celebrate with the same tone.

*Click*

Nurse Joy clicking a few button on a screen, made a rectangular container pop out near the bottom of the steel closet. This steel tray was holding 12 Pokeballs which I assumed were the Squirtle.

"So these are the move sets each set has." Nurse joy explains. Looking over to the little monitor she was standing next to, I could see that the Pokemon were separated into three groups.

Each set has a Pokemon with different egg moves, they also have different characteristics that you won't be able to see until you choose.

(~~~~)

[Set One: {Tail Whip}, {Tackle}, {Water Gun}, {Rapid Spin}, {Yawn}, {Water Spout}.]

[Set Two: {Tail Whip}, {Tackle}, {Water Gun}, {Rapid Spin}, {Mirror Coat}, {Life Dew}.]

[Set Three: {Withdraw}, {Tackle}, {Water Gun}, {Rapid Spin}, {Aqua Ring} {Aura Sphere}, {Aqua Jet}.]

(~~~~)

You can tell by the egg moves that each set has a designed a rubric for each Squirtle. Set one would naturally have its opponent tired from {Yawn} and use {Water Spout} as its ace move.

Set two is a more tanky response as it could heal itself mid fight while reflecting special attacks. Set three is a more hands on battling style with constant healing with {Aqua Ring} and attacks with {Aura Sphere}.

Putting Clefairy down to the floor knowing that the door behind me is closed. I think for a little bit before making my choice.

"I'll choose set three." I say with confidence.

In all honesty {Aqua Ring} instantly convinced me. A move that passively heals in a battle is already overpowered. With Blastoise having great defences, he just needs to outlast his opponents.

{Aura Sphere} is just an extra move for me at that point.

"Great choice!" Nurse Joy says clapping. While she took the Pokeball out of the tray, Clefairy tip toed to be able to barely look over it.

It looked like a kid looking at their new baby sibling in the crib.

"Here it is!" She says handing me the Pokeball. Grabbing my new Squirtle's Pokeball I scan it on top of my Pokédex's blue gem.

Looking over at Nurse Joy, she just nods indicating she gave me permission to claim Squirtle using her machine.

"Confirming claim…. Accepted. New owner of [Squirtle] Forrest Harrison." The Pokedex buzzes out. Hearing the confirmation I proceed to send out Squirtle to say hi.

*Phsszzst*

"Squirt?" It said looking around confused. But this soon changed as it felt the recently made bond.

"Hey buddy!" I cheerfully said reaching out.

Squirtle with a big smile, runs over to my embrace and gives me a hug. Chuckling at this development I pat it's head which made it growl in satisfaction.

"Squirt squirtle!" It laughed out loud as I tickled it. Clefairy watching this in jealousy just pouts and crosses it's arms wanting attention.

Seeing this with the side of my eye I smirk.

"Squirtle I'll talk with you soon, I've gotta do something." I tell the tiny turtle Pokemon regrettably. Squirtle though hearing this, gives me an understanding nod and taps its own Pokeball.

*Phssszszst*

Watching Squirtle go in its own Pokemon, I just kept an amazed expression.

"That's was so cool!" I say giddily. Squirtle immediately acted friendly with me and accepted commands instantly.

Is this the joy of having a regional starter?

I know from the anime, there are some Pokemon like Ash's Froakie that don't originally obey, so I somewhat expected that.

But this is completely different, it's so adorable! I can't believe I'm fanboying over a Pokemon right now as a mentally full grown adult.

Lairon after my little speech did listen to most of my commands. But in battle he still went off my instructions which was eventually fixed overtime.

"I guess you're satisfied with your choice?" Nurse Joy giggles out covering her mouth. Still in a daze, I nod at her while grabbing poor Clefairy with one hand under my arms.

"Cle fairy fairy!" The little fairy Pokemon shouts at its injustice. Not only was it bullied by its trainer, but another one had came to replace it!

'I guess I'll need to restock and make some extra Pokemon food.' I thought zoning out which made it look like I'm ignoring the complaining Clefairy.

Brock's initial package of Pokemon food was running out. In addition I need to wash my clothes which I used over four sets these past few days to Cerulean.

"Clefairy come over here." I say in a stern tone. Clefairy who was a few metres away, looked at me with a stubborn look.

It didn't take long before Clefairy finaly obeyed me and walked into my arms. I was currently training the little fluff ball to obey my commands first.

I can't have a Pokemon ditch me as soon as I leave it unattended like Ash and his companions…

"Fairy!" It says demanding food. Shaking my head I tell her that I won't give any.

"You need to do more than that to get a reward, but this is a good start."

I wanted to train their move sets and see what they could do better. My current location was one of the public training facilities which had regrowing dummies and obstacles.

*Phsszszst*

"Scyther!"

"Lairon!"

"Squirtle?"

With all three of them outside, I first focused on Scyther as he was already doing some speed training with some power and stamina ones to the side.

"Alright take these cones and set up what I showed you before." I say as I took out a few cones from my bag. Scyther nodding at my words, immediately gets to work.

The resilient type that bug Pokemon is.

*Crack* *Crack*

'The fvck is that!'

Hearing a cracking noise behind me. With Clefairy still in my embrace, I turn around to see Squirtle on top of Lairon who was running around.

"Squirt squirt!" The little Pokemon laughed enjoying its time with its new big brother.

Lairon who just met the little guy, instantly took a liking to the turtle Pokemon and gave it ride.

'Shit that's so pure.' I thought to myself with imaginary tears coming down my eyes.

This soon ended though as I had to start Lairon's training for today.

"Lairon I want you to use {Rock Tomb} and hold as many boulders as you can while doing stamina training." I command. Lairon hearing this just nods and makes his way to an empty spot on the grounds.

This type of training will be extremely useful for Lairon. It will improve his concentration, precision and stamina of course. The more rocks he can control precisely, the easier time he will have hurling one at his opponents.

"Okay it's now time for you two." I say assuming that they both have little to no battle experience. They wont train yet as I just want to know their skill level for now.

I wont include Clefairy in major battles just yet, but Squirtle should be able to after an evaluation.

Walking over to a dummy with Squirtle and Clefairy, I first had Clefairy test out its moves.

"Attack the dummy with {Stored Power}."

Clefairy charging up some energy, sent it all at the dummy which acted like some kind of Shinra Tensei/repulsive force.

*Thud*

The dummy was sent to the ground as a decent shock wave knock it down. Seeing this I scratch my chin in though.

Soon after this the dummy floated back to its orginal place spooking both Squirtle and Clefairy.

"Fairy!"

"Squirtle!"

With the both of them recovering from shock. I command Clefairy to use {Stored Power} but instead of just slamming all its energy. Clefairy was meant to control it.

"{Stored Power} but this time control the dummy." I say after a little bit of thinking. Clefairy nodding at my words, charges up her power again.

But this time instead of a huge shock wave being sent out, a single pink circle flew out of Clefairy's hand and floated to the dummy.

The three of us dumbly watching, saw the pink circle phase into the dummy which invaded it with psychic energy.

This soon after made the dummy go straight to the ground.

*Thud*

'I guess the move works for control and force. It's just that she can't control it too well.' I observed after a little bit. It makes sense if you think about it.

She still hasn't trained her move so to have precise control over it wouldn't make sense.

"Use {Minimize}." I say knowing how her previous move works.

In the games {Stored Power} is very weak akin to a nerfed tackle attack. But when Clefairy uses a stat buffing move, then the power increases the more you stat boost.

My experiment with Clefairy's move pool went on for half an hour while Squirtle was sitting on a bench watching Lairon and Scyther work out.

What I found out was quite interesting to say the least. While using a stat boosting move, the power does increase, but the stat you boosted gets halved out as the energy gets used for the attack.

So if you used {Minimize}, and then used {Stored Power}. The evasiveness from {Minimize} would be half as effective which is annoying.

But Clefairy can choose to use it or not which can make fake plays very prevalent for her future battles. Like pretending to use up its evasiveness, then right after dodging a crucial move Clefairy smack its opponent with a full powered {Stored Power}.

"Squirtle we're done, it's your turn." I shout.

Squirtle who was still observing Lairon, heard my voice and quickly waddled over to my location.

Watching the little guy waddle over with big boy steps, I pick up Clefairy who kept nagging me.

"Squirtle squirt?" It asks wanting to know what's happening.

"I want you to demonstrate your moves like Clefairy. Let's start off with a {Water Gun} on the dummy."

*Gush*

Squirtle opening its mouth, sends a torrent of water towards the dummy which instantly soaked it.

The hit was honestly impressive. Squirtle aimed the attack at the dummy's head which tells me that he knows critical points.

Paired with his precise aim and power, he was most likely trained prior to being given to the Pokemon centre.

"Nice hit Squirtle! Now let's try {Aqua Ring}."

Soon after I said this, water started to appear around Squirtle in a ball shape. It took about five seconds to fully form which I'm not sure if it's fast or not.

"Okay can you cancel it?" I question after the ring was fully formed. Squirtle looking at me, just nods and makes the water drop to the ground.

We also tried out {Aura Sphere} which did huge damage which was a special move. It could be thrown like a wind rasengan.

"We'll try out your guys other moves later, you must be pretty tired." I comment at the end of the session. With all my Pokemon now gathered up, I returned them to their Pokeballs and head to a hotel.

'I'll book a room then go out for some food. Then after I'll probably try to make some of Brock's Pokemon food for the first time.' I thought making up my mind.

Oh wait I still haven't washed my clothes.

Damn…
