24 A Mysterious Egg

In a room decorated by dim lighting, a comfortable chair was placed in the centre to overlook the whole auction. Was it because this was a higher-tier auction? Alan felt that the quality of the room and the chair he was sitting on was higher than the previous one.

Tier 3 auction had been a bit of a letdown for him. But he had high hopes for the tier 2 auction since he had been here before and knew what kind of items were sold in it.

He had to make sure. He saved some money for the tier 1 auction if he found something valuable that was within his price limit, which would be very rare since the auction this year had items more valuable than the last year's.

As he was going through his budget for this year, the person who would host the auction walked up to the platform and introduced herself.

"Hello everyone, my name is Nixx, and I will be your host for the day." unlike the informal tone used by the person in charge of the tier 3 auction, she had a polite manner as she carefully chose her words.

"Tonight, we will auction thirty items of varied varieties; I hope they are to your liking as we have carefully picked them for this day."

"Without taking any more time, I would like to start the auction."

She gave a small moment for everyone to prepare before introducing the first item to be sold.

"Every one of us wants our pokemon to have higher potential, but once we reach Deep Green, it gets harder and harder to go any further than that. Therefore, the first item will be very useful for people who have a poison-type pokemon."

"Poison orb made by a Peak King stage pokemon."

"The bid starts at 1 million pokedollars."

The first bid came out as soon as she said those words.

"2 million."

"2.5 million."

"3 million."

.

.

.

Alan looked at people bidding for the poison orb with a tinge of regret.

Orbs made by pokemon are very rare since one pokemon can only make one of them once every two years. That too depended on the quality of the orb; if it were like an orb given to him by Prof. Oak, it would take at least six-seven years before a pokemon could make it again.

Though this Poison orb might not be as rare as the one Alan had, it was still enough to give a massive boost to a pokemon with Deep Green pokemon.

They were even better than singularities. Where Alan needed three of those to push Eve, who was already on the verge of breaking into Deep Blue, only one of these orbs from a Normal-type pokemon would have done the work. But that was just one of the uses; these orbs helped raise the control and understanding of a pokemon in their type if the orb was made by a pokemon with a higher level than them.

If a Water-type pokemon in the Intermediate stage consumed Water Orb made by an Advanced stage pokemon, its understanding of Water energy would increase by leaps and bounds. The effect would be even more significant if the gap between the two pokemon were huge.

Before he even knew it, the orb's price had reached 15 million pokedollars.

"20 million."

As if to show his determination in winning the orb, a young trainer in the VIP room raised the price by five million.

"Do we have a bid higher than 20 million?" asked Nixx as she looked at everyone waiting if anyone wanted to give a higher number.

"20 million going once."

"20 million going twice."

"20 million going...thrice...SOLD!!!"

With an excited voice, she announced the winner of the first bid.

As the auction kept going, the first few items that were auctioned off were similar to the Poison orb in one way or another.

As the 8th item was also auctioned off, Nixx announced the next item and the one Alan was interested in.

"We will now move on to the next category; TMs. For the next item, I would not have to explain anything as it would speak for itself."

"TM: Dragon Rush."

"Starting bid: 1 million pokedollars with an increment of 100,000 in each bid."

As soon as she said that, a slight commotion took over the auction hall.

A TM related to Dragon-type pokemon was just as rare to get as a Dragon-type pokemon itself. All of these TMs would always be auctioned off rather than be sold somewhere else.

As soon as he saw the TM, Alan immediately spoke his bid from inside the room.

"5 million."

It was a high price, but he did not care as long as he got the TM, but he was not the only one who needed it.

"5.1 million."

"We have our first bidders from room number 3 and 8," announced Nixx trying to get Alan and the other person in a heated battle for the TM.

"5.5 million," said Alan in a calm tone.

"5.6 million."

"6 million," added Alan.

"6 million, we have 6 million for such a rare TM," spoke Nixx while looking at room number 8, "do we have another bid? This TM might not be seen in the market ever again."

As if 'enlightened' by her words, the man once again raised the bid, and one could easily hear the hopefulness in his words.

"6.5 million."

"6.5 million. Do we have a higher bid than this?" asked Nixx while swaying her figure a little.

Alan ignored her and made a slight frown, 'bit expensive but...'

Money was the last thing he had to worry about at the moment.

"7 million," he raised the price once again, 'as long as it makes us stronger, everything is worth it.'

"7 million, we have another bid from room number 3," announced Nixx with a pleased smile, thinking Alan was 'charmed' by her, "do we have higher bidders?"

She waited for a few seconds before she spoke once again.

"7 million going once."

"7 million going twice."

"7 million going...thrice...and Sold," she said with a smile, "congratulations to room number 3 for winning this rare TM."

Alan gave a small sigh of relief as he heard the bid close at 7 million pokedollars. He would raise it if the other person did as well, but he still had the tier 1 auction in his mind.

"As the next item, we have another rare TM which might be more sought for than the previous one," as Nixx spoke those words, she took out another TM and presented it for the others to see.

"TM: Hyper beam," said Alan as he stood up from his seat, his face showing how much he wanted the TM.

He looked at Eve, who was sleeping soundly before a smile appeared on his face.

'Finally, some serious firepower.'

"The bidding starts now."

"7 million."

As soon as the bid started, someone from the auction hall gave a sky-high price, but who would not? The Hyper Beam was one of the strongest Normal-type moves, if not the strongest. And even among all other offensive moves, this could very well be at the top of the list.

"10 million."

"10.1 million."

"10.9 million."

.

.

.

As the price kept rising, Alan decided to wait till every one of them was at their last legs for the price, and just as he expected, the bids started to decrease once the TM reached the 12 million mark.

As soon as he saw no one bidding anymore, he increased the bid by a million hence buying another TM for 13 million pokedollars.

Not all TMs were this expensive, but the ones as strong and rare as Hyper Beam was always sold for sky-high prices.

As the auction kept going, it was soon time for pokemons to be sold off. Alan gave a slight nod since he would be able to make some money with the pokemons he had given to be sold off to be used in the next auction.

They were reaching the end of this auction, which meant that the final item would soon be introduced. More money meant more chances of winning that item if it was something he wanted.

As Nixx introduced the Light Green potential pokemons given by Alan, the crowd once again started bidding with all their savings to get a hold of them.

Alan shook his head as he thought about how he had sold the pokemons to the official League shop, which had a fixed price for pokemons. The pokemon he had sold for 11 million pokedollars was easily worth much more in this auction than it was anywhere else.

"27 million."

"27 million going once...twice...thrice... and SOLD!"

As a man held the Pokeball of a light green pokemon in his hands, Alan heard a small notification about the money deposited in his account.

As all the pokemons were sold one by one, Alan finally gave a pleased sigh, satisfied by the number in his bank account.

'With this, I can easily buy something from tier 1 auction...right?' he thought as he looked at the 511 million pokedollars sitting in his bank account.

"Now, for the finale of this auction, we have a special item that we would be selling," said Nixx as she clapped her hands and four men entered the hall dragging a cart.

'What kind of item would be sold off for the last...' as Alan tried to guess the last item, he looked at the cart that the four men were dragging.

*THUMP*

Its top was covered with clothe hiding whatever was hidden beneath.

*THUMP*

Alan stood up and walked up to the glass wall as he seriously looked at what was being carried here.

Eve sensed the changes in Alan's emotions and woke up before she walked up to him.

[What is it?] she asked before looking at the metal cart.

*THUMP*

Alan felt his heart vibrate the more he looked at the cart.

Nixx walked up to the cart and removed the clothing, showing everyone what was hiding beneath it.

[Alan, you feel it, right?]

Alan did not say anything, but his expression said it all.

In front of everyone's eyes lay an egg with blue, black and white lines covering its surface.

"Many of you would be confused why we sell something we cannot attest the potential of. But I can assure you that after hearing my explanation, you might think otherwise."

Alan did not care what Nixx was telling as he kept staring at the egg that was making his heart vibrate.

He wanted to have pokemons in his family with whom he could feel some connection. And he was sure this was what he meant when he said 'connection.'

"This egg was given to us by a very powerful trainer, and we have attested that the parents of this pokemon inside the egg are really strong. The person who gave this egg to us was backed by The League in his claims, so I believe that the pokemon within this egg would have a very good potential."

As Alan looked at the egg, he felt something inside of him awaken as if it had been in deep slumber for a very long time.

"We only know one of the parents of this egg, and it was none other than a Lucario- The Aura pokemon."

As Alan felt his connection with the egg, he found himself surrounded by blue 'energy' that was now leaking out of him. The 'energy' looked excited as if it had finally broke out of its shackles that bound him for a very long time.

Alan raised his hands and carefully looked at that 'energy.'

"Is this Aura?" he asked himself.

[How did you suddenly awaken it?] asked Eve with a stunned face, [don't tell me...] she said before looking at the egg once again, [is this because of it?]

Alan nodded his head before he had an excited smile on his face.

"Eve," he said and looked at his partner, "we are getting another member in our family."

"The bidding will start at 1 million pokedollars."

"10 million."

As soon as Alan was about to say his bid, he heard a deep voice speak first, and a frown appeared on his face.

"Sir, is that egg with unclear potential really worth that much money?" asked a woman as she stood on the side of a chair.

"That egg is radiating aura like any other I have seen," a man in black suit sat on a chair as he too noticed the peculiarities about the egg.

The woman nodded her head as she knew her boss would never give a wrong judgment.

"This egg is as good as yours, no one will dare bet on an egg with unknown potential," replied the woman.

The other man just nodded his head but then they heard another person raise the bid.

"20 million."

"Huh?"

"Heh?"

They both looked at the Vip room opposite to them, they could not see who was behind it but the man knew that the other party had noticed the worth of this egg.

'Is it some old coot who came here just for fun like me?'

Alan too looked towards the VIP room opposite to him. He could feel how the man was interested in this pokemon egg but he himself was determined to get it even if he had to use all his money right now.

'Let's see how far you can go.'

Anyways. If you can guess what the pokemon is, the first one to make the right guess, I will let you chose the third team member for Alan. Use the Line below to add your guess and the pokemon you think Alan will get. You will have the time till the chapter in which pokemon has hatched from it's egg.

Do it like this:

Guess: XYZ

Pokemon Wanted: ABC

Drop it in this format so it is easy for me. You can do that in the next line.
