Chapter 1

Kanto Region, Pewter City. On the outskirts of the city, a teen was silently resting alone in a field of grass whilst under a tree that protected him from the glaring midday sun.

The teen's handsome face was marred with dirt and his cheap, slightly baggy clothes were washed white and dyed again with many green grass stains. Judging from the appearance of the boy, it's obvious that he was from a poor background.

The teen's name is Damon Smith. He is what is commonly known as a reincarnator and as you would expect of a reincarnator he has extensive knowledge of different anime and light novels and games befitting of a weeb or otaku.

As someone who loves animals and adventures alike, there could be no other world that would satisfy Damon's desires like the Pokémon world could. When Damon realized he had reincarnated into the Pokémon world he was completely over the moon about it.

Despite being a relatively hyper person Damon was a genius on Earth. Having an abnormal intuition and comprehension since childhood coupled with his good work ethic his parents always thought that Damon was going to do great things with his life.

They were right. Damon spent his short four years of adult life getting a formal postsecondary education and using all his spare time developing his hobbies. Hobbies such as: comparing himself to all the idiots on "survival in the wild" themed TV shows, watching documentaries on cute-looking animals, calling various animes and light novels and games dog shit, and deciding what his ideal Pokémon roster would be.

Damon was killed by a truck when crossing the street by the way. He was 22 years old soon to be 23 years old when the accident occurred. There's no other way Damon would rather exit the Earth.

But what do you know? Reincarnation exists. Damon can't remember going through a strange tunnel or seeing people dressed in strange clothes waiting for him outside said strange tunnel nor can Damon remember tasting the sweet taste of a special kind of milk at any time.

Damon's earliest memory is waking up as a young orphan who had only recently turned four years old. He knows he is four and also an orphan because the children's supervisor gave him a cupcake and told him, "Happy 4th Birthday Damon" whilst simultaneously a multitude of children stared at the cupcake in his hands with envy-filled eyes. No matter where you are kids are greedy for cupcakes. It's been proven.

Damon thinks that maybe he only gained complete consciousness at the age of four because an infant's brain isn't all that developed. Who knows.

After eating his cupcake in a few bites much to the chagrin of the watching children, Damon took a look out a window at the world he had arrived in. For the first time in his new life, Damon showed a surprised expression. There was a Pidgey clearly visible on a branch of a nearby tree.

Upon sighting this Pidgey, Damon came to an amazing conclusion. And then after reaching his conclusion, Damon was immediately filled with countless burning desires.

Though before Damon could fulfill all his desires with the world before him he had some major obstacles to overcome:

1.) He was a toddler when he discovered he was in the Pokémon world

2.) He was a toddler in an orphanage

3.) It seemed that Pokémon were rather expensive to buy and catching wild Pokémon without your own starter Pokémon was just a bit life-threatening

4.) A person needs to be registered in the Alliance and have a form of Alliance Identification to prove their registry or else having any Pokémon at all is very illegal and also very punishable by death

5.) Children of Alliance members are automatically registered as Alliance members themselves. Damon doesn't have such a privilege. You can register as an Alliance member after taking a test though and anyone without a criminal record can take the test after meeting the minimum age requirement of 16

Naturally, reality and fiction will have some discrepancies. Damon considers his start in this world unlucky and lucky for different reasons. Being an orphan means that Damon does not have anyone to rely on or care for him which by default makes him lonely and poor. But there's a bright side. Damon doesn't have to fulfill the dreams of his family in this world and can instead focus on his own dreams entirely.

Damon loved his parents from Earth and he would feel awkward if he got a new pair of loving parents in the Pokémon world but if given a choice between staying on Earth or going to the Pokémon world Damon would still come to the Pokémon world. After all, Earth is rather boring in comparison. Damon would rather risk his life on a daily basis and become a Pokémon trainer than continue to live on as an average Joe.

In order to fulfill his dreams in this life Damon came to the realization that he has to be superior to all the protagonists he has read about. Instead of waiting for something shity to happen to him and corrupt him somehow Damon will just be a twisted person in this second life of his.

On his path to fulfilling his dreams and leading an exciting life, Damon was sure that at some point traditional morals would become an obstacle for him. Based on this assumption Damon carefully considered what he should do in order to prevent traditional morals from holding him back in the future and he came up with some possible solutions:

1.) Don't have any morals

2.) Suppress his morals

3.) Change his morals

Damon decided on option three through the process of elimination. He doesn't know how to not have any morals and he also doesn't know how to suppress his morals. So if his traditional morals can't be eliminated or suppressed he'll just have to change them. Adopting a twisted personality of only caring about his Pokémon or anyone particularly close to him and regarding all unrelated Pokémon and humans he doesn't know as nutrients for the betterment of himself and his future family.

Damon realizes though that his new personality will make it hard for him to tame certain types of Pokémon unless he raises them from birth or tames them through some special means and that due to his new personality, it is also unlikely that he will be able to form strong bonds with other humans easily.

Damon is aware of the drawbacks that will accompany his decision to change his personality however he also has read far too many light novels in which the protagonist becomes conflicted and can't make a decision or take action in a critical moment because of his traditional morals. Damon will do his best to avoid such obvious pitfalls.

Almost all Pokémon wouldn't see his new morals in a negative light anyway since they themselves would kill other Pokémon or humans to feed and better themselves and their families but Damon was sure that the overwhelming majority of humans would see his personality in a negative light and some may even take action against him.

If he let his morals be known to the outside world then the best-case scenario would be getting chastised everywhere he went. In order to avoid something like that Damon will lie with his words and he'll show the outside world his original personality. Bright and cheerful and full of energy and intellect.

Damon will thoroughly disguise himself and do his best to build a good reputation for himself. There's lots of work to do and lots of excitement to be had but first things first Damon only has one necessary priority that he must fulfill as quickly as he can. Damon must grow up. Can't get anything done as a toddler.

And so Damon came to a decision that will bring about great changes to the Pokémon world in the future. He was going to quietly remain as a normal orphan and devote his time until he was kicked out of the orphanage to learning about the Pokémon world, amassing as much money as he could, and hopefully gaining some useful skills. Damon thinks a really useful skill to have would be a basic, bare-bones, non-sentient system or user interface that can identify everything of importance about any human or Pokémon he sees in person. Damon's decision was indeed world-changing.
