5 Chapter 5: Pewter City and First Gym battle

The next morning, Nathan woke up refreshed and started to prepare breakfast, while his pokemons were training in the form of playing. After a quick breakfast, they resumed their search for the trail. It was only after wandering for four days, that Nathan found again the trail. When he was near the exit of the forest he encountered a Sewaddle running away from a Staravia. The Sewaddle was using String Shot to swing from tree to tree, when suddenly the branch the pokemon used broke and he fell directly on Nathan's face. Ordering Naia to use a Confuse Ray followed by Confusion to scare the Staravia. Looking at the trembling Sewaddle in his hands and seeing there was nothing wrong, Nathan put him on the ground and got back to walk. Walking for two hours, he noticed the Sewaddle following him and turned around.

" *Sight* Want to come with us ?"asked Nathan while getting on one knee and taking out a pokeball and showing it to the wild pokemon.

The latter nodded and raced to touch the pokeball and getting caught after only a shake.

'It's nice to have new pokemon but I will have to start planning how to train them, I don't want to send some home this soon. Sys show me the status of Sewaddle, please.'

Continuing his route Nathan left the forest and saw Pewter City in the distance, as the sky was darkening, he was really lucky, he couldn't bear to spend another night out in the open, he needed a warm and slow shower as well as a comfortable bed.

Entering the city, he asked for the Pokemon Center Direction and after searching for twenty minutes finally found it, he wasn't the sole who was happy to finally sleep inside, Naia who loved to be really clean and groomed was anticipating this. Sîn didn't really care where he slept, he only needed Nathan and a pillow that's all but he wasn't against a warm bath.

Once he was inside Nathan started giving his pokemon to Nurse Joy when the egg started shining brightly and shaking, seeing this Nathan took it out and held it in his hand. After ten seconds the egg was gone and instead was a Baltoy looking at Nathan and recognizing him as his parent while spinning happily.

"Humm, could you also check this one please."asked Nathan at which Nurse Joy smiled while taking Baltoy and Nathan's other pokemon with her.

Five minutes later, she came back, and told him while giving him back his pokeball and pokemon.

"Your Baltoy is very healthy, there wasn't any problem."

"Thank you Nurse Joy."replied Nathan bowing his head a little.

After that he booked a room in the pokemon center, but before doing anything else he needed milk for the newborn pokemon. Founding some in the general store he brought enough to last him one month, going back to his room, Nathan took out all his pokemon to meet the youngest and to take them to a bath after feeding Baltoy. The most ecstatic after Naia at the idea of a bath was Horsea, he couldn't swim much since he was caught so he took this opportunity to swim in the bathtub and racing with Nidoran.

After getting cleaned they all left to get some food and that night they slept so well that the next morning they woke up later than usual. Nathan decided to stroll in the city a little and sightsee. During his walk, Nathan arrived in front of the Museum, curious to see real fossils of pokemon which went extinct, he entered. While touring, he didn't notice a group of men dressed completely in black with a big red R on their chest entering and releasing their pokemons.

"Nobody move, we are member of the proud Team Rocket and what we want are, first all the fossils of ancient pokemon the Museum have and second all of your pokemon. Some of my friends will come to take your pokemons so don't do anything stupid."

No one dared to move, because there was more than six Ekans and Koffing in the room ready to pounce on them. When a grunt approached Nathan, he grinned and said.

"Some nice and rare pokemon you have there, now call them back in their pokeball and give them to me."

"Nope, don't wanna."lazily replied Nathan while sending out his other pokemon except Baltoy who was still too young to fight.

"Sîn, Naia use Swift, Kelpie Bubble, Anzu Nidoran Peck, and Gastly well use Hypnosis on the small fry and Sewaddle bound them with String Shot."he ordered his pokemon surprising him a bit with their teamwork.

Not long after the members of Team Rocket were subdued by him Officer Jenny and other members of the police came in and took them away for interrogation. After this episode in the Museum, Nathan got back on the route before Pewter City to train his pokemon.

"Ok, we will train because, tomorrow we will challenge the Gym Leader and he use rock and ground type pokemon, so Kelpie, Nidoran and Sewaddle I will count on you."

And after that they trained for the rest of they day, and their training paid as Anzu evolved into a Pidgeotto, Nidoran into a Nidorino and Sewaddle into a Swadloon, even Baltoy got stronger.

Going back to the Pokemon center, Nathan let his pokemon to play in the recreation zone, he got back to his room to fish out some information about Brock the actual Gym Leader of Pewter City. What he found out was that he had a Geodude, a powerful Onix, a Rhyhorn and even a Aron. He could only pray that his pokemon were ready for the match.

Getting out of his room, he walked back to fetch back his pokemon and go to eat, take a good bath to relax and sleep early because tomorrow he would face a trainer more experienced than him and who was also recognized by the League.

The next morning, Nathan woke up, ate his breakfast with his pokemon and decided to relax a bit in the park before his battle. At 9, he made his way toward the Gym. Arriving in front, he saw a guard and told him he was a challenger. The guard asked his name to verify if it was true. After checking he was granted entry.

Entering inside, he saw a wide space and in the center was a battlefield made out of soil with some big rocks. Standing with his arms crossed, a man was standing in the middle of it. It was Brock the Gym Leader of Pewter City.

"Hey, you are the challenger ? I'm Brock the Gym Leader." said Brock with a friendly smile.

"Hello, I am Nathan, a challenger from Pallet Town."answered Nathan.

Taking their place at each end of the battlefield, they motionned to the referee that they were ready.

"This will be a three on three battle between the Gym Leader of Pewter City Brock and the Challenger Nathan of Pallet Town, as per the League rules only the challenger is allowed to substitute his pokemon in middle of the battle, whoever lose his three Pokemons first, will be declared loser. Now begin !!!"

"Go Geodude." said Brock as he sent his Geodude.

"Swadloon, show him what you can do. Use Razor Leaf."ordered Nathan.

"Geodude, dodge with Rollout." countered Brock making his pokemon roll out of the way of the leaves and going toward Leavanny quickly after.

"Jump to the side and use String Shot to stop him and use again Razor Leaf."

Swadloon executed her trainer orders, jumping to the right just before being hit by Geodude, using String Shot to cover the later in sticky threads nailing him on the spot, making it easier to hit him with Razor Leaf. After getting hit by Razor Leaf three time in a row Geodude fainted without getting a chance to counter attack.

"Geodude has fainted, Swadloon win. Please send your next pokemon."said the referee.

"We weren't lucky on this one Geodude. Go Onix. Use Rock Tomb."ordered Brock with a confident smile.

"Get out of the way Swadloon and use Razor Leaf."said Nathan making Swadloon dodging by the skin of her teeth. But the Razor Leaf didn't make much damage.

Seeing this Brock's smile grew wider and said.

"Get closer Onix and use Rock Throw and Tackle."

Not having enough time to react Swadloon took Onix's attack completely, sending her flying against a wall knocking her out.

"Swadloon cannot continue, Onix win. Please send your next pokemon."

"I'm counting on you Kelpie. Use Smokescreen while spinning on yourself."said Nathan

"Now use Water Gun."

As Onix was too big to fit in the Smokescreen you could see the upper part of his body. Onix was looking for Kelpie in the smoke when a Water Gun hit him on his face, dealing more damage than before.

"Good, it's working keep it up, use Ice Beam and also Bubble while moving around." said Nathan with a happy smile.

"Onix, use Rock Throw where the Water Gun come from."ordered Brock.

Onix used the move ordered by his trainer but unfortunately, a Ice Beam came from the opposite direction, followed by Bubble from somewhere else a little later. This continued on for a while without Onix being able to do anything he was brought down.

"Onix is unable to continue, Horsea win. Please send your Next pokemon."

"Good job Kelpie. Come back."Nathan congratulated Kelpie while calling back in his pokeball as he was exhausted by moving around so much on land.

"You trained your pokemon well. I never saw a Horsea moving this fast on land before."praised honestly Brock.

"But don't think you already won. Aron show them our strength."

'So it's Aron.' though Nathan.

"Nidorino, come and show them that we too are strong. use Double Kick"

"Aron, use Harden followed by Headbutt."said Brock while admiring the shiny pokemon.

'He look like he is well raised and properly taken care of. He look strong too the same as his other pokemons.'

"Nidorino dodge and use Leer, followed by Focus Energy and Double Kick again."

Finally hitting Aron with enough power to push him back, Nidorino kept pressuring him till Aron collapsed.

"Aron cannot continue, Nidorino win. The Challenger Nathan of Pallet Town is the winner." declared the Referee.

Brock walked closer to Nathan giving him the Boulder Badge.

"Congratulation,this is the Boulder Badge, it is one of the official Badge which will confirm your participation in the Indigo League."

"Thank you. Now I will go to heal my pokemon. Good bye."said Nathan waving to Brock.
