37 Chapter 36 : Punishment? Gift?

Neither Koda nor Orion were expecting Sabrina to enter the room. Orion looked at her. While he had seen her several times in the Gym, he never had an opportunity to interact with her.

That said, it wasn't something he was particularly looking forward to. Be it in the anime or the manga, Sabrina had a troublesome personality. In the anime, she was a psychic freak who somehow transformed people into dolls. In the manga, she was a part of the team rocket. It was why Orion preferred the current status and wasn't too keen on interacting with her.

He observed quietly as Sabrina approached Koda and said, "Instructor Koda, I have a task for yo…"

She suddenly stopped speaking and looked at Orion, or more specifically, at Orion's Abra. Koda became confused and followed her eyes. Orion was the same as well and wondered, 'Why is she staring?'

Abra looked curiously at Sabrina as well and he felt a strong Psychic power within her. Surprise flashed in Sabrina's eyes for a moment before going back to their usual state. Koda missed it as he was looking at Abra, but Orion noticed it as he was looking at her.

Sabrina turned her eyes from Abra to Orion and asked, "Since when did students start getting their own Pokemons?"

Orion was surprised by the question, but he quickly answered, "Lady Sabrina, I was lucky to meet and catch a few Pokemons. I was guided by Master Cedric to bond with them and train them."

As he spoke, Orion wondered, 'Did Sabrina really not know that I have caught a few Pokemons? I know she's busy, but does she not even check up on the progress of the top students in her own Gym?'

Orion couldn't say for sure but he would be speechless if someone told him that the answer was 'no'! Of course, that wasn't the case. Sabrina knew quite a lot about him. It's just that Orion didn't know about that.

Sabrina stared into Orion's eyes and asked, "A few? Show me your other Pokemons."

Orion called out Rhyhorn and Machop. As soon as they appeared, both looked at Sabrina who was staring at them. Both were puzzled initially, but soon they became very alert as they felt a formidable presence from her.

Orion was surprised at their reaction. He thought, 'I have never seen them so serious. Even when we infiltrated into the Beedrill hive, they didn't look this alert.'

After observing them, Sabrina turned her eyes towards Orion and said, "The Gym provides one Psychic type Pokemon to every student who becomes a Psychic. However, since you already have a Psychic Pokemon, you won't be getting any."

'...'

Orion was speechless! He was so stunned that he couldn't even hide the disbelief that was visible on his face. He almost lashed out but managed to control himself remembering that the woman in front of him was a crazy strong psycho!

He could only bitterly curse in his mind, 'What the fuck is wrong with this world??? Shouldn't you be rewarding your best student??? First Cedric refuses to sponsor food for my Machop and lets me take more risks. Now Sabrina refuses to give me a Pokemon that I should have received just because I risked my life and caught one? How the fuck is that fair? Shouldn't she be impressed by my work ethic and discipline and reward me with a Platinum talent Psychic Pokemon??? Instead, she takes away what I would have gotten normally?'

Orion almost wanted to cry at the unfairness he was facing. Fortunately or unfortunately, he was too old mentally to be doing such antics. He could only sigh internally and dejectedly reply, "Alright."

Orion knew that even without the Pokemon, the Gym has been very helpful to kickstart his journey. Helping him to awaken Psychic powers, helping him tame Rhyhorn and the other two Pokemons, as well as helping with Rhyhorn and Abra's food was a massive boost to him and helped him differentiate himself from others in his generation. That said, any gratitude he felt was evaporating extremely quickly. After all, for the Gym, helping him that much wasn't even a drop in the bucket.

Orion wasn't the only one who felt that it was unfair. Koda wondered, 'Since when did we start punishing kids for catching their own Pokemons? Also, Cedric should have long informed her about Orion. What game is she playing?'

A rare smile appeared on Sabrina's lips as she saw Orion's reaction. She thought, 'Not bad, his mental state is quite good to be able to come to terms with such unfairness so quickly.'

She said, "Instead of a Pokemon, I'll give you this."

Orion suddenly became curious while Koda thought, 'As I suspected.'

Sabrina's eyes began glowing blue. Suddenly, a white light appeared in front of Orion. Once the light faded, he saw two spoons floating in the air that were controlled by Sabrina.

She said, "Give these Psychic Spoons to your Abra to hold. Have your Abra carry it on him at all times, especially when he evolves into Kadabra. It'll be of great help to him. You can discard them once all the energy inside them is absorbed."

The spoons floated towards Orion as he accepted them. On touching them, his eyes immediately widened as he felt a large amount of Psychic Energy in those spoons. He immediately thought, 'Good stuff! The Hard Stone is nowhere near these spoons in terms of quality!'

Orion quickly handed the spoons to Abra who instantaneously fell in love with the spoons. What Orion didn't see was Koda's reaction. His eyes widened on sensing the energy inside the spoons.

He quickly thought, 'Are those some of the old spoons of her Alakazam? They would easily sell for a few hundred million Pokécoins! That's more expensive than a Gold talent Pokemon. Why did she give his Abra something so precious?'

Suddenly, he felt something and looked at Sabrina who was staring at him. He immediately received the message of staying out of the matter and keeping his mouth closed.

Seeing Abra's reaction, Orion quickly thanked her, "Thank you, Lady Sabrina."

Sabrina nodded and said, "Continue training hard. Instructor Koda, visit my office in the evening. Also, inform Master Cedric that I have asked him to meet me."

As soon as she was done speaking, Sabrina teleported back into her office. As soon as she did, a serious look appeared on her face as she wondered, 'Is his luck really that good for him to receive such a high talent Abra or is there some sort of foul play involved?

His Rhyhorn and Machop aren't that special, which could mean that he just got lucky. That said, it can also be an intentional cover. After all, several criminal organizations keep trying to infiltrate the League. Giving him a couple of low talent Pokemons is the perfect cover to reduce suspicions about Abra's talent. Also, how exactly did he catch an Abra?'

Cedric hadn't informed Sabrina about Orion catching Abra. So, she wasn't fully aware of the progress he had been making.
