13 Side-Story: Flashback to Viridian Forest

It's been a day since Charmander and I have started exploring the forest.

Using the System's mapping functions, I was easily able to go off-track and find my way back.

As I was making dinner, I thought of ways to beat Brock. He was a Rock-type user, and Charmander would obviously struggle.

"How can I do this? System. Do you have any ideas?"

[Answering Host.

Rock-types are resistant to fire and have extreme levels of physical defense. Charmander's only special move is Ember, which is not very effective.

Through analysis of available data on rock-type Pokemon, It is recommended to win using other means. ]

Well, that was very helpful, wasn't it?

As I racked my brains to find any possible method to come out victorious, I looked to my right and noticed Charmander playing tag with a wild Ratatta.

Having finished dinner, I put the food on two plates and walked over to them. Since this Ratatta was Charmander's friend, of course I'll treat it.

Just as soon as I started walking their way, something unexpected happened.

As Ratatta was running around Charmander in circles, the flame on its tail started rotating and exponentially increased in height.

Not knowing what was going on, I asked the System about it.

"System, explain."

[Answering host. The rotating air caused by Ratatta's running coupled with the updraft caused by the flame has created a small version of a fire tornado.]

"A fire tornado... I-I think I know what to do! Charmander! let's train a little more!"

Charmander looked at me weirdly but got excited nonetheless. He really liked training after all.

We then entered a small clearing, and I placed some dry leaves in the center.

"Charmander, use ember on this small patch of dry leaves and follow it by Dragon Dance. I want you to run as fast as you can in circles around it afterward. Can you do it?"

"Char!"

With a nod, it did as I specified. The next thing that happened was that a massive fire tornado appeared and reached for the skies.

Scared of the possible damage to the forest, I called out Sandshrew and tasked him with using Sand-attack on the fire whenever it got out of control.

With that, we trained all night. The final result was Charmander managing to create a massive vortex with some space in the middle.

I think we can take on Brock now.
