15 Chapter 15 - Catching the First Pokémon!

I overhauled the system view, it got to me it wasn't the same at all- and I just made them all the same finally.

Also, this is the extra chapter I promised for the first 20 power stones! I didn't forget! Enjoy (:

===============================

Budew's favorability may have risen from 0 to 5, but it's far from enough for Quinn to catch it. According to what Quinn read, Budew is a Pokémon who is often shy and are very docile. They usually live near sources of clear water, such as lakes. Different from the Pokémon with strong territorial awareness like Beedrill, Budew don't care much for a territory. Because of this, they often show a kind and easy-going attitude to other Pokémon and humans.

Of course, this is only based on the premise that you're not aggressive towards it. Five points of favorability is equivalent to someone you have a good impression of, and after a whole night of hard work (watering, feeding and basking in the sunlight), Budew's favorability for Quinn changed from 5 to 15.

When he looked at Budew's status again, the mood and physical state on it had changed accordingly.

[Budew♀]

Typing: Grass, Poison

Ability: Leaf Guard

Base Stats: 280 (HP: 40, Attack: 30, Defense: 35, Sp. Atk: 50, Sp. Def: 70, Speed: 55)

Known Moves: Absorb, Growth, Stun Spore, Seed Bomb

Current Mood: Happy

Physical State: Relaxed

Favorability: 15 (It's starting to get comfortable around you!)

"Little one, do you want to be comfortable all the time?" Quinn took out the poke ball and squatted in front of the Budew to try and catch it.

Pokémon are very smart creatures. In this world, there are several ways to catch a Pokémon.

The first way is to battle and defeat the Pokémon- knocking it unconscious. Then use a pokéball to catch them. There is no doubt that this is a way to guarantee capture. Even if the battle was very tense, and the Pokémon was angry before capture- it will be calm once released. In the anime, there was a few times a caught Pokémon was released and was no longer aggressive.

This gave Quinn the impression that pokéball has something of a brainwashing ability... No one can prove it more than Ash Ketchum himself.

The second way is that the trainer asks if the Pokémon will follow him, and the wild Pokémon gives it's feedback. In this case, the trainer needs to prove their strength to the wild Pokémon. After defeating it, it will recognize you and follow you.

The third way is to just be strong enough, wild Pokémon will take the initiative to follow suitable trainers.

The fourth way is the friendly and harmonious capture. Like when Ash had just received Pikachu, he protected Pikachu who wouldn't listen to him from the Spearow. Pikachu was moved by it, and follows Ash to this day. This is a "two-way choice" method of capture.

(E/N -- I had a stroke trying to understand what this was. I think I got it correct but if you want to pass out try reading the MTL version...)

"Budew?" Hearing Quinn, Budew showed an confused expression on her face, and looked at the red and white ball in front of her without any understanding.

Seeing this, Quinn said:,"In other words, become my Pokémon and live with us!"

The Budew understood now, glancing at the forest outside the window- and then thought about the experience it's had from yesterday to the present.

"Budew..." Budew hesitated, and the seductive human voice in her ear continued, "I can make you stronger and help you evolve into a Roserade."

Shyly, Budew paused, the color of hesitation on her face slightly reduced.

Continuing, Quinn said, "Every day, you can also relax in the sun and have clean water to drink."

"Budew..." she said, looking embarrassed. She was actually quite excited.

Hitting the nail even deeper, Quinn said, "We will also prepare a lot of delicious food for you! Many new things you've never had before!"

At this moment, the hesitation in Budew's heart was completely gone, and her small eyes were shining, "Budew?"

Quinn couldn't understand her, but at this moment, he miraculously understood the meaning of Budew. He nodded and said, "Yes, it's something more delicious than what you had last night."

Last night he didn't want to let the Budew go back into the forest to find food, so he brought an extra container of free Pokémon food from the cafeteria. It was a food made of honey, flour and berries. Although the nutrition is not as good as professional pokécubes, compared to the berries Budew usually ate in the forest- it can be called a delicacy.

"Budew!" she replied quickly, nodding as if she didn't want to miss out on the opportunity.

"Then, I'll catch you!" Quinn pressed the button on the pokéball, and it returned to it's normal uncompressed size. A red light shot out from it, enveloped the Budew's body, and drew it into the pokéball.

The pokéball in the palm of his hand shook slightly, as if the Pokémon inside was adapting to the environment, but it was soon motionless again. This meant the capture was successful!

"I really didn't expect that the little one was a foodie." Quinn said, laughing.

The things he said to Budew weren't lies, he truly intended to keep his promises, because meeting the needs of Pokémon is also part of nurturing them. Eating delicious food not only provides them with the nutrients they need for growth, but also makes them happier.

Looking at the pokéball with Budew inside, a new message suddenly appeared in Quinn's mind.

[Name: Budew (Not Set)]

Typing: Grass, Poison

Trainer: Quinn Proudmoore

Titles: N/A

Medals: N/A

Nature: Quiet

Notes: Very shy, likes being clean, was caught on September 28th, 2XXX within the Rustboro Forest.

Quinn was taken aback, thinking, 'Isn't this the interface that can be seen by trainers in the games?'

The first few items are nothing to notice, but what makes Quinn care about is the fact he can see the Pokémon's nature! In the game, the corresponding abilities of the Pokémon of different natures will increase or decrease, but in the anime, there isn't much information related to this study.

And in reality, the nature of the Pokémon can't be described in a single word, right? Not to mention, after evolution, some Pokémon will change. Maybe quiet is just a simple description of Budew's personality, and it will not have any actual impact on its special attack stat.

As for the medals column, in the game, it records the life of a Pokémon. If the Pokémon wins the Pokémon League or a Pokémon Contest, the corresponding ribbon medal will be displayed. They don't do much, but they can help trainers better understand their Pokémon.

Quinn put away the information column. Quinn was afraid of throwing the pokéball for now and wasting 200 pokédollars, so he hit the button once again. A white light shot out from it, and condensed into Budew.

"Budew!" It seemed satisfied with it's new home.

Quinn is also very satisfied, because he finally has a real starter Pokémon.

Cramorant seemed to have been infected by the happy atmosphere, and made a silly "quack" noise while dancing around.

(E/N -- This is the original author's note! I made it understandable, so hear the words of the prophet!)

(A/N -- PS: The natures in this book do not affect stats like they do in the game, but it can change as time goes on.

PPS: This book will follow the traditional trainer route. After two years, you can begin your journey.

Ancient ruins, legendary beasts, rare Pokémon, going after first place in the Pokémon League, and clean Pokémon trading. I have everything you like, and, most importantly, this book has no romance. I can't write about women, so it's not happening....)
