1 Chapter 1- When All Began

Looking at the sunset from his favorite beach in the outskirts of the city of Kawayan, Rico, a kid with striking bright green eyes, dark brown loosed hair, and wearing his sky blue and yellow buttoned, long sleeve polo, dark grey pants, and dark blue and dark red shoes, was thinking about his future, a future that is complex and hazy, even though he wanted to an electronics engineer like his father was, but since it'll take years for him to achieve, the choices gap between his early years and future adult years is still missing. Even worse, he couldn't think of what Pokémon he wanted to get, despite the encouragement received from his parents, who were loving, supportive, and worried about him. But going home after looking at the sunset will change his life for the better, as well as the path he will be taking.

This is Rico Titus Algavas-Cruz, or better known as Rico. He is an eleven-year-old kid from Peñon de Kawayan, a city in the Philas Region, a region where technology and culture intermixed. He likes music, art, and literature. His older brother, Jonathan, died when he was only five while attempting to stop certain Pokemon thieves from brainwashing Arceus, a Legendary Pokémon. Rico is kind, calm, generous, righteous, and loyal to his parents, school, and others. He also rarely argues or being angry. But when being fooled around, or fall for a trick, he loses his temper and rage out. Because of this, Rico was very sensitive to any judgments or criticisms, and usually resisting the bad ones by retorting and talk backing.

In terms of appearance, he had dark brown hair, regular anime skin color, and bright green eyes. His dark brown hair is the same as dark chocolate and had normal hair, but in the front, it was a loosed one, going to the right, but not covering his right eye completely. His skin color, hair and hairstyle, and eye color are inherited from his father, while most of the facial expressions and most of his positive attitude are from his mother. Wherever he goes, he had that positive attitude, a regular smile with a sharp look of his hair, and never, or rarely, being down or have low self-esteem. Also, he prefers no shortcuts to learning and training, another key feature of his character.

It all started when Rico was going home from the beach. It was a golden afternoon as vehicles and people are busy in their tasks and going home during rush hour. The leaves are falling from trees, as if it's the season of autumn, and the kids are playing in the streets and on the grass. Pokémon birds are flying in the sky in groups, and winds blowing in swift speeds. Along the way, he found a Riolu, a rare Fighting-Type Pokémon, being injured from being caught by Pokémon thieves, collapsing at the middle of his path. Having no Pokèmon of his own, he picked up a stick, and starts to poke that Pokémon, thinking that it might attack him. Then, suddenly, two Pokémon thieves, dressed in grey t-shirt, green cap, yellow and green vest, grey shorts, brown boots, grey gloves, and each armed with a gauntlet, and ride on a Z.Z. Flyer, emerged from the trees. Their rapport is strong and ludicrous. The male thief then said to Rico, "Oh, what a poor Pokémon. I think that Pokémon is perfect for you;" then he and his female partner laughed. Rico, however, had a harsh criticism against Pokémon thieves.

Rico then carried Riolu in his arms, and yelled at them in mild anger, "Hey! Why and what did you done to it? What is this? Capturing a wild Pokèmon?" Then the female thief answered him, "What's the matter, kid? Are you afraid of us?" Then Rico seriously answered, "Heh, I am not afraid of you;" then he started throwing stones at them. But they dodge them. Then the male thief said to him, "Heh, I think you are a coward, kid. We are the Pokémon Pinchers. We -"; Rico threw the fourth stone before the male thief finished his sentence, this time it hits one of the Z.Z. Flyer's levers, leaning it to the left, causing the male thief's Z.Z. Flyer to descend out of control, eventually hitting his partner's Z.Z. Flyer.

Then Rico said to Riolu, "This is a distraction. I'll take you home." Riolu, weakened, responded, "Ri-o-lu." Rico then put Riolu in his bike's front basket, mounted on his bike, and fled as fast as he could. Once gaining control, the two Pokémon Pinchers start to chase Rico and Riolu. They then began shooting waves of circular beams using their gauntlets, but Rico dodged their attacks by shifting his bike left to right and vice versa, like those stunts you see in action movies. At last, Rico and Riolu hid in an abandoned house. The Pokémon Pinchers then inspect that house as Rico and Riolu hid rigidity and quietly; but they didn't find Rico nor Riolu, and left the place. Seeing that the close was clear, Rico and Riolu sighed in relief, came out of their hiding place, and managed to reach home at a neighborhood. Wow, it was so close and lucky to get out. The milestone for his life as a Pokémon Trainer had been set for him.
