16 Wrench and Departing

Zeus reached deep and finally touched upon the source power for his evolution. He immediately drew for it and started to glow.

Drake was satisfied, but only for a brief moment. Instead of the blinding white light of an normal evolution, Drake saw something familiar.

A cocoon forming around Zeus, he was at a lost so he asked Athena why this was happening and she responded that even though Zeus met all the early evolution requirements.

He was speed leveled to level 45 it was unintentional but a certain amount of growth needs to happen after a level up.

So the evolution was changed from a quick one to a long spanning one. He'd have to provide Zeus with food to sustain the evolution process every three hours.

Drake wasn't disappointed much, he was just disappointed with himself for not thinking about that. He recalled Zeus and sent out Wrath.

Wrath saw the situation he was in and immediately used Agility. Wrath's Agility was at lvl 12 just 3 levels short of being maxed out.

This high leveled Agility decreased the amount of time necessary to raise Wrath's speed to the max. After raising his speed he used Fury Cutter, the first four were blocked.

But the increased speed from Agility and the pressure from the threat of the attacks and the constant use of Protect finally broke Tangrowth's concentration.

It failed to use Protect and was hit by a five stacked Fury Cutter, effectively knocking it out. Erika soothed her Pokémon for a bit before sending out a level 40 Jumpluff.

Drake saw this and was happy, this would be a great opportunity to show Wrath that his fighting style needs to be changed.

He fought like he was a still a Scyther, speed can no longer be his forte. He'd have to develop a new fighting style to win this fight or he'd lose.

True enough Wrath tried to defeat Jumpluff with his final Fury Cutter but it was easily dodged. He tried using his other moves but they all easily dodged.

While Wrath was trying to hit his opponent, his opponent had a much easier time hitting him.Wrath almost went into a blinding rage but he stopped himself.

He stopped trying to attack and focused on dodging. Even though he was hit by several attacks because of his type advantage they hardly damaged him.

Wrath adjusted his battle tactic, he stopped trying to attack first and waited for openings instead and he soon found one.

He used Vacuum Wave to knock Jumpluff off it's course and Bullet Punch to knock it to the floor. They weren't super effective moves but they got him in a position to attack from.

After Jumpluff slammed into the floor Wrath stepped on it and used Fury Cutter twice and because Jumpluff was immobile they were two critical attacks.

Along with Jumpluff's mediocre defense it was immediately KO'd. Wrath stood still looking at his pincers for a bit before he realized that this should be his fighting style.

Erika recalled Jumpluff and sent out a Victreebel at level 45, this would be a hard fight. This Victreebel knew Stun Spore and several strong Special attacks( As in Special or Physical ).

Wrath tried to use his third Fury Cutter but it was deftly blocked by Victreebel using Protect. Wrath was more or less expecting it to happen.

Victreebel used Razor Leaf to try to hit Wrath but he dodged it. The two Pokémon attacked each other and either blocked or dodged them.

After Erika and Victreebel thought they got a lock on Wrath's fighting pattern, Erika got Victreebell to use Stun Spore.

Wrath wasn't in a position where he could dodge it, just as Drake was going to tell Wrath how to deal with the move Wrath dealt with it him

He beat his wings and redirected it back at Victreebel. The spores quickly paralyzed it before they dispersed.

Wrath seized the moment and used Fury Cutter three times to end it. Drake was pleased with Wrath's performance, he was starting to develop his battle instinct.

Unlike Sabrina, Erika had complete faith that she could win with her final Pokémon. She proceeded to release a Bellossom at level 45, when Bellossom was released the move Sunny Day finally wore off.

Bellossom instantly used the move again, but this time the sunlight was much harsher. Wrath used his fourth Fury Cutter in an attempt to strike Bellossom but it was blocked by Protect.

Wrath retreated but apparently not fast enough, he was hit by a Solar Beam dead on. It sent Wrath flying backwards, Wrath got up and dusted himself off.

Grass type moves barely had an effect on him, Wrath used Vacuum Wave to disrupt Bellossom but the move was easily dodged.

Bellossom's Ability Chlorophyll doubled it's speed in harsh sunlight. This sunlight was so harsh it even shortened the charge time for Solar Beam.

Bellossom's Solar Beam was probably maxed out but even then it shouldn't be able to be fired so quickly. Drake saw this and decided to take charge.

He commanded Wrath to use Iron Defense, Wrath was a bit taken aback because he didn't expect Drake to intervene and because that wasn't a move he used often.

Nevertheless he still did as told, he used Iron Defense and his metal carapace grew more shiny. Drake told him to use two more times and Wrath did it.

Erika was confused, Iron Defense raises physical defense not special defense. She deemed this endeavor useless so she didn't intervene.

After Wrath was finished, Drake told him to use Vacuum Wave. Bellossom dodged it and used Solar Beam again.

But this time instead of blasting Wrath into the floor it was refracted of his carapace into several smaller beams that went in different directions. Because Iron Defense polishes the Pokémon's skin or shell, the move makes them shinier than before.

Solar Beam is a move that fires concentrated rays of solar energy and light can be refracted. Bellossom fired another Solar Beam and this time by pure luck one of the refracted rays made it's way back to her.

The ray sent her flying, it didn't do much damage but an opening was all Drake needed. He then told Wrath to use Razor Wind, this move creates some turbulent wind that grows more and more turbulent before it strikes the target.

Wrath didn't use this move often because he previously used speed to attack. Drake used this opening to use Razor Wind because once set in motion it is impossible to disrupt.

By the time Bellossom stood up it was hit by the Razor Wind. Drake had Wrath follow it up with Quick Attack which also got him closer and Fury Cutter to end it.

Erika wasn't pleased with this battle, judging by the way Drake battled she could tell that she was used as a whetstone. It was not a nice feeling, she had her suspicions when he didn't call out any orders.

But when she saw how easily her Strongest Pokémon dismantled by his tactics. Her suspicions were confirmed, nevertheless she had to comply by the Pokémon League's rules.

She congratulated him on his victory and granted him the Rainbow Badge which completed his quest. It granted him 8 free stat points and 1 treasure map and a new quest that he didn't check right then and there.

Drake left the Gym and went to the Pokémon Center, he left Wrath with Nurse Joy (Still hot) and went to the computer to video call home.

It rang two times before he saw his mother's face, she was crying mumbling incoherently about what he assumed was the events of Saffron City.

He assured her he was perfectly fine and she calmed down a bit before she started yelling. She went on about how he was reckless and always had to get involved in dangerous situations.

She went on a forty minute rant before walking off in a huff, Drake just smiled. His sister Nina sat in front of their home computer and saw her brother smiling.

So she reasonably asked " Did you get hit on the head ? Are you a simpleton now ? Why are you smiling?"

Drake was a rendered speechless. He froze for a bit before he said " Your tongue is getting worse with each passing call and to think that I was going to bring you back a present. "

Drake watched her shocked expression with delight before he flashing her his tongue and hanging up.

Drake smiled for a bit before he decided to actually get her a present. He wasn't sure what he'd get her but it'll call out to him when he sees it.

Drake collected the rewards and recieved a new quest.

[ Quest Unlocked]

[ Defeat Koga and earn the Soul Badge. ]

[ Rewards: 12 free stat points and 1 treasure map]

Drake saw the rewards and knew that Koga would use 5 Pokémon in this battle. He payed it no heed and proceeded to use his free stat points.

Drake put the 8 free stat points he had in Endurance and opened the treasure map. This time it highlighted a location in the sea but there was no island anywhere close.

He also got the traditional quest to defeat the Guardian and the rewards were the usual treasure chest and '???'.

Drake deduced that it was most likely underwater, fortunately there's an underwater breathing device available in this world. It was mostly found in Hoenn but Drake could buy one from his system store.

Finished with all of his system alerts he decided to go to sleep.

Drake slept the night and woke up early the next morning and left after collecting Wrath's Pokéball. The journey to Fuschia City would be long as he had to pass through two cities and Diglett cave to reach there.
