Chapter 2

When he reached this group of kids, Hilbert heard many cheers.

"Go, Daniel!"

"Your pokémon is the best!"

"Beat him, Harry!"

"That Sinnoh Pokémon has got nothing on your pokémon!"

'Wait, Sinnoh pokémon? Now I need to see this!'

Hilbert found an empty spot and peered into the battle.

On one side, stood a boy with black hair, wearing a dark blue shirt and pants.

There, in front of him, Hilbert used the scan.

'That kinda sucks, but it is understandable,' Hilbert frowned, looking at the Patrat.

She breathed heavily, an arm against her chest, and bruises ran all around her body.

"Pat...rat..." Patrat kept her gaze on her foe.

Hilbert looked the other way.

There, stood another boy with a cap on his head backward. He wore a striped shirt with black shorts.

Hilbert caught sight of this challenger's pokémon.

His eyes widened.

'Scan,'

"Damn, stay calm, Patrat!" The boy, or Harry, commanded with panic, his wounded pokémon attempting to not faint.

"This is what happens when faced with a powerful pokémon from Sinnoh!" The other boy, Daniel, said matter-of-factly, "So remember this defeat well,"

Harry was not going to give up.

"Patrat, Bite!"

With his command, the injured normal-type rushed forward, her red and yellow eyes determined to damage her foe.

"A dark-type move against a fighting-type? How idiotic," Daniel yawned, "Roxy, finish this with a Quick Attack, to save them the embarrassment,"

"Riolu!" Roxy the Riolu responded, still standing vigorously with no scratches.

Although, this command took time, and with the fighting type looking away, Patrat had an unbelievable opportunity to finally strike.

She did.

The crowd's cheers collapsed into silence.

Patrat's teeth chomped hard, but only through air.

Out of the corner of her left eye, she saw a Riolu with an angered glare.

BAM!

With her paw, the fighting type struck Patrat's head, sending the normal type to the ground.

After this impact, Patrat was out of the match.

There were some cheers from the kids, while others stared on in dissatisfaction.

"..." Harry returned the downed Patrat to her pokéball and walked away.

"That's right," Daniel said, his chest out, "anyone else who wants to lose?"

After another child strolled forward, Hilbert was not there anymore.

He was just strutting around town.

'So that guy has a Riolu, I guess he got it from Sinnoh somehow,' Thinking this, Hilbert felt something, 'He is confident, but that Riolu is pretty strong,'

'I want to beat him,' He looked up to the sky, 'no, I'm jealous that he is a winner, and that he has a strong pokémon,'

Hilbert continued to walk, his fists clenched, 'I need to win,'

If he needed to win, he had to get a pokémon.

'My parents are or were pokémon trainers, so maybe I can ask them for one,' Hilbert continued his stroll, 'that will excite them,'

Sometime later, he made it back to his home.

His mother stood in the garden in front of the house, watering a plant.

"You're back, Hilbert," She said, looking at him, "Did you have fun?"

Hilbert nodded, 'Alright, let's do this,'

"Mum," He said, thinking of the sentence, "Can I get my first pokémon?"

She paused and looked at him in surprise.

"Hmm, know what?" His mother said, thinking, "I'll ask your dad, he is by the lab now,"

Now inside the house, at the phone, Hilbert waited while his mother called.

'I guess they don't have the Xtransceiver yet,' He thought, sitting on the couch, 'Wait, I mustn't expect any of the starters now,'

While he thought this, his mother got the call.

"Hello, this is the Nuvema Town pokémon lab, how may I help you?" The speaker on the other end made her frown.

"I know it's you, Emile," She replied, tapping her foot.

"And I know it's you whenever I get a call from my workspace, and that makes my day," His father responded.

"Listen, love, I need your help," Hilbert listened in, hearing his mother speak, then a muffled voice on the other end.

"Okay, that's everything," By this line, it sounded like his mother would finally end the call, "Bye, love you,"

"No, I love you more," She continued.

'At least they love each other,' Hilbert thought, facepalming.

"Hilbert, honey," His mother said, putting the phone down, "we're going to the pokémon lab, to get your pokémon,"

'Finally,' Hilbert thought, nodding to this.

When they reached the lab, they saw his father waiting outside.

"Okay, you two," He said, walking to the automatic doors, "follow me,"

Hilbert and his mother did, and once inside, he was not surprised by all the computers, cabinets, and pokéballs within the lab.

"No need to act professional," His mother spoke, grinning at her husband.

"I'm at work, I have to keep up to the standards," His father responded, keeping his head straight, "here's my workplace,"

Walking into another room, Hilbert saw even more technical stuff, especially a certain box with three pokéballs in caught his attention.

"Where's Professor Juniper?" Hilbert's mother asked, looking around the place.

"She's out of town," His father replied, looking through the cabinets in his office, "on some observation of wild pokémon,"

With that, he pulled out a box and set it on the floor.

"Here, Hilbert," His father spoke, motioning him to come and look, "I worked hard to get these, so please, choose,"

'Okay, here we go,' Hilbert walked forward, 'let's see the choices,'

The box housed three pokéballs.

Each one was see-through, so Hilbert could pretty much see a chibi form of each pokémon.

'That's something from the manga? Nice,' He squinted, 'wow, and it's the normal starters, that's good though,'

They sure were.

A Snivy, a Tepig, and an Oshawott.

'I like all of them,' He reached in, grabbing one, 'but my choice has been decided,'

After he looked at the pokéball, Hilbert pressed the circle on the ball. This made it enlarge.

He soon released the pokémon.

"Oshawott..." The little water-type groaned, rubbing its eyes, and looked around.

"So you chose Oshawott?" His father asked, smiling, "I picked Tepig, you know?"

"I had a nice Snivy," His mother chimed in, "I always won whenever your dad and I battled,"

"You and I both know I won more, I have the records to prove it!" As they began to playfully talk back and forth, Oshawott and Hilbert caught sight of one another.

"Osha!" It jumped in such a fright that it hid behind the box.

Though, instead, he hid wrong, and most of his body could be seen.

'Is he some reincarnation of Chopper?' Hilbert shook his head, 'Scan,'

'Mmm,' Hilbert narrowed his eyes while scaring Oshawott even more, 'How will the abilities work? Will they activate automatically or must they be activated manually?'

He raised a hand to the water type.

"Osha?" Oshawott, with a shaking body, slowly and carefully moved out of his hiding spot and with every inch, walked nearer to Hilbert's hand.

However, Hilbert couldn't handle Oshawott's cuteness, so he tried to pat his head.

But the water-type weaved his head back so fast, he fell over and bonked his white head against the floor.

"He is pretty frightened, but see that as a challenge," His father spoke, lifting the box and putting it away, "your mother and I will be here to support you,"

Hilbert nodded at this.

After he returned home with his mother, he went off to go and play.

'Where can I train?' Hilbert thought, looking at the small pokéball with Oshawott in it, 'I need to see how pokémon can get more moves,'

He decided to test out one of his theories.

Towards the outskirts of town, where it became rows upon rows of trees and grass, Hilbert stopped at one of them.

'This is dangerous,' He thought, enlarging the pokéball and throwing it, 'but worth it if I want to beat that guy, what's his name again? Daniel, I think,'

"Oshawott!" The water-type spoke, holding his head, then shook after looking at Hilbert.

Hilbert kneeled. This made the water type jump a step back.

"You're my ace," He said, pointing at Oshawott, "once I'm done training you, you will become strong,"

"Osha?" Still terrified, he tilted his head in curiosity.
