Timid Approach

It was the next morning and Shade and I were already dressed for lecture. I wore a skinny jeans which revealed all my curves and an offshoulder top which shows the signs of my cleavages. Shade on the other hand wore a blue short gown even so, she was not the girl whose buttock will pump out, the gown fitted her so well.

We had just stepped outside the hostel when Shade's phone began to ring. She needed not to tell me before I knew it was Joshua. And just as I always feel, I felt this disdain velocity traveling through my viens. I hated her. I wish she would just sleep and don't ever wake up.

"So, that was Joshua" she chuckled

"So? Why are you telling me?" I frowned

"Ah ah, what's with the face now, is it bad I am trying to tell you?" she asked

"Abeg, abeg, na who send you work wey you dey deliver?" [Who asked you?] I frowned again

"Okay, I am sorry o" she mocked.

"See, Shade, I am just looking out for you, it's too early to be all pink over some guy you barely know. Cos, you never can tell. He might just be," I was still talking when Shade interrupted.

"No, he is different. I think he loves me and I think I love him too."

"Yeah, think. That's the right word," I mumbled to myself.

We were just about to take a bend at the Angola hall when Joshua appeared suddenly from no where. I kept staring at his lips as he was talking and holding hands with Shade.

This is ridiculous. They are not even beautiful together. This guy needs some attention from a sight doctor. How can a king be relating with a slave, a slave with no aorta of beauty. When a princess like myself is just standing right next to him and yet, he couldn't see.

"Catch up with you later?" He asked as he was walking backward away with that captivating smile that revealed his teeth.

"Sure," she answered smiling back.

She kept smiling and looking back but pretending not to have been looking. I could tell she was really in love. Surely, there is a difference between loving and falling in love. Shade has really fallen in love with my own dream man.

I could see Dele from afar off. Shade was even pointing him to me as she wanted me to find a way to create a conversation. Actually Dele was quite handsome as well. Tall and well built. I was looking at him as he was talking to other girls just outside the lecture theater. Shade the little devil in human form also hurried my steps and I don't know how I found myself in front of Dele.

"Hello o," he said waving right in front of my eyes.

"Oh! Hi, I.. I.. I am Cynthia." I said trying to clear my throat.

"Oh! I am Dele, the guy you were rude to like," he was still talking when I interrupted.

"I know, and I am sorry, actually I am not like that I was just not" he didn't allow me to finish before he interrupted.

"It's okay, I don't have to know the details. So, you a biology student too?" he asked.

"Yes, I mean no, I mean, my course is Mirco Biology not that very Biology you might be talking about." I answered.

"Well... They are all biology to me," he said smiling

"Can I have your number, not.. not that.. I want your number but you know..ehn ehn.. I just want to collect it just... Just..." I was still talking when he interrupted

"It's okay... Here it is."

He brought out his wallet and torn a little piece of paper from it. How surprisingly, the paper contained some inbox for cell number, address, website and all. Like, the wallet was made for giving out information about one self.

It wasn't long after collecting his number I walked away too slowly like a snail. All my thought was he might be looking and I wanted him to see how sexy I can be while walking.

I went inside the lecture theater and saw Shade already sitting and pretending to be reading. I sat right next to her and hated myself how I have conversed with Dele.

Why am I being a chicken? I am a tough girl, I should be all tough and straight to the point. Why was I beating round the forest looking for a river that is not lost.

"So, how was it?" Shade asked.

"He gave me his number." I replied.

"Asin, he no collect your number, na you collect number?" [ He didn't asked for your number but you asked for his number] she asked in a sarcastic tone.

"Wo, free me. Na the number be that" [leave me alone] I answered displeasingly.

Shade immediately turned her face sideways and stopped talking as my thought began to sink deep.

I know if it were to be Joshua, he would have asked for my number instead. But this one his medulla oblongata is not working. Just imagine, a girl standing before you trying to initiate a conversation, your brain no Sabi work say make you collect number even if say na to dey lie say u go call ham [your sense did not tell you ask for her number even if you will turn out not to call her]. You see fine bae, you were there behaving like a castrated guy. Mumu! [Idiot]

It wasn't long the lecturer stepped into the class and instructed everyone to occupy the front seats. We all complied and sat where we have been instructed as he started his lecture. I could not help but to stare at his dressing. Honestly, these lecturers have to step up. How can a person who claim to be a normal human being wear "Ankara" [ native wear in Nigeria] and wear a canvas on it. As if that was not enough, he still wore a jeans face cap. As in, okay, what is now the difference between you and "elegun" [Masquerade] what's left for you to do is to just cover your face with a veil.
