1 Calm | Storm

Arctic Sea|November 23, 2098|2013

In the bridge of C.S. Zephyr. Two men could bee seen talking, one on the admirals chair and the other standing right next to it.

"Admiral, once again, thank you for accepting our contract, you have no idea how valuable this test will be."

"No need for thanks, this test is also something we as a whole are looking forwards too."

"Oh? How so?"

"If the deep-sea drilling test is a success, we won't have to buy materials from other nations, we would be able to mine in neutral waters without anyone watching our every move."

"I see, but what happens if the test is a success, and the nations catch wind of it? Wouldn't they start passing international laws prohibiting independent drilling or just completely divide up the oceans among themselves?"

"Chauncey, you and I both know that that wouldn't happen. The world is not yet ready for another World War. Also, do remember, this is the very first test of your company's prototype. Sure we have the capabilities to improve it on our ship, but that's only if the test is a success."

"Yes, yes, I KNOW. Its just I'm a bit excited and anxious, this is the most ambitious thing my company has pursued in a very long time."

Silence falls on the two men as they stare out the windows. The old man sighed and turned to Chauncey.

"Why don't you go back to bed Chauncey, its going to be a very long and taxing day tomorrow."

"Yes, you're right Admiral-"

"Please, just call me Vardan, we are here to construct business relationships, not a superior-subordinate relationship."

"Very well ad- I mean Vardan. I'll leave the files here in case you want to go over them again, I will see you tomorrow."

"Tomorrow at 0530, got it?"

"Yes, yes. Good night."

"Good night."

C.S. Zephyr Bridge

An old man is sitting on the Admirals chair. His face well worn, but full of life. His hair was grey with patches of pure silver. The most notable feature was his eyes, pitch black eyes that make him look blind, but gives a feeling that he can see everything in a persons soul, even the things said person tried their best to hide. And that is Vardan, who is currently switching from studying the weather report, and looking out the window into the horizon.

"Hmm... I was expecting heavy clouds, maybe a snow storm or two, even this forecast accounts for some clouds, but when I look outside, It's completely sunny, not a speck of cloud cover in sight."

He frowns as he ponders the reasons for such a phenomenon. This was a first in his 40 years at sea. Reaching for a radio, he contacts his Operations Officer.

"Paulina, are you busy at the moment?"

"'Are you busy' OF COURSE I'M BUSY!!! *sigh* What do you need Admiral?"

A cheery voice chirped back.

"Ha ha, of course you're busy, I'd be worried if you weren't."

"HEY!!! WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'D BE WORRIED IF I WASN'T BUSY?"

The old man chuckles.

"Calm down little lass, I just need you to keep an eye on the weather alright?"

"Alright but shouldn't that be a job of the Quarter Master?"

"It should, but they are busy plotting the best route and area to conduct the tests later today. Just between me, you, and Alan; there is something weird about the weather right now."

"Weird? Isn't it sunny outside? Its not uncommon for the arctic to have a day of no cloud cover every once in a blue moon right?"

"I know, but the forecast says it should be extremely cloudy right now. I'm having Lucio contact some research stations and compare weather reports."

"Does he know?"

"Yea, he knows. But you know him, the little twerp loves to stir up trouble once anything 'supernatural' comes up. The entire ship already knows, they're gonna brush it off as another one of his antics."

"Alright, I'll keep an eye out."

"Thank you."

Vardan leans back into his chair and ponders, closing his world from the other officers in the bridge.

Arctic Sea|November 24, 2098|0600

A scrawny looking man was making his way up to the bridge, he had a pair of thick glasses on and sported a thick, scratchy beard. His brown hair had cow licks all over the place. Yawning, he enters the bridge and greets Vardan.

"Mornin' Admiral- I mean Vardan. Its pretty sunny out right now..."

He shields his eyes from the window.

"Oh, good morning Chauncey, did you have a good sleep?"

"Yeah, no... how do people sleep on such a hard bed?"

"You get used to it. Right now we are about 5 or 6 hours away from our designated spot, so you should get down to the moon pool and get your drill up and running, make sure nothing bad happens before hand."

"Yeah, I'll get to it. Will you be joining me later today?"

"I plan on it."

"Great, see you then."

Chauncey heads down the stairs leading to the moon pool. Vardan watched him leave with an amused look and returns to watching the horizon, looking for any signs that may affect them.

Some humanoid creatures could be seen playing around in the water, having a joyous time without a single care in their minds. It was a water settlement, with coral and seaweed buildings laying about. Some of the bigger creatures perked up and looked into the distance. Rapidly forming clouds could be seen swirling, throwing water of all states around itself. If any human were there, they would identify it as a frozen tornado. A recent phenomenon that happened due to humanities actions of artificially cooling down the planet.

Vardan got down his chair and instructed an officer to close off all windows and hatches on the ship. Before he left, he made an announcement to the rest of the ship to stay inside and to remind that no one was to get on the flight deck. Right as the windows closed, dark gray clouds start to form and swirl just half a nautical mile in front of the ship.

The Storm is approaching.
