Ch. 13 - Against Brock

I continued walking, making my way past Camper Liam.

"What!!!"

"How did he get past Camper Liam???"

"Is this a bug, A glitch in the matrix???"

I was now in front of the Pewter City's gym leader, Brock.

{Image Of Brock}

"So, you're here. I'm Brock. I'm Pewter's Gym Leader." said Brock as he jumped down from his boulder.

Hearing the voice of Brock, all the players quickly quiet down immediately so that they don't miss anything.

"My rock-hard willpower is evident even in my Pokemon."

"My Pokemon are all rock hard and true-grit determination."

"That's right, my Pokemon are all the ROCK type!"

"Fuhaha! You're going to challenge me knowing that you'll lose?"

"That's the Trainer's honor that compels you to challenge me."

"Fine, then! Show me your best!" said Brock without stopping.

[You have challenged Leader Brock]

Brock sent out his Onix from the start, and his opponent is my Bellsprout.

{Image Of Onix}

"Whoa, what Pokemon is that?" said someone.

"It looks so cool, the PokeDEX says it's called Onix" said another player with a PokeDEX in his hand.

"What about that waking plant thingy?"

"It's a Bellsprout" said the same player after scanning Bellsprout with his PokeDEX.

Bellsprout Lv. 15 - 41/41

Onix Lv. 12 - 100%

Since rock-type Pokemon are weak against grass-types, I chose to use <Vine Whip>, which is a grass-type move.

Due to the difference in the speed stats, Onix performs his move first.

<Rock Tomb>, which was not very effective against Bellsprout, only taking 09 HP, but because of the special effect of <Rock Tomb>, Bellsprout's speed fell.

Bellsprout Lv. 15 <-1 Speed>- 32/41

Onix Lv. 12 - 100%

After Onix, Bellsprout used <Vine Whip>, and was super effective against Onix, taking all his HP but...

[The foe's Onix hung on using <Sturdy >]

<Sturdy > is an ability of a Pokemon that allows the Pokemon to survive a one-hit kill move with 1 HP.

Bellsprout Lv. 15 <-1 Speed> - 32/41

Onix Lv. 12 - 3.3%

Again, Onix used <Rock Tomb>, just like last time, not very effective but caused Bellsprout's speed to fall even more.

Bellsprout Lv. 15 <-2 Speed> - 23/41

Onix Lv. 12 - 3.3%

Using <Vine Whip> again, this time taking Onix out.

[Foe's Onix fainted]

[Bellsprout gained 248 EXP. Points]

"What? What? What?"

"He defeated that giant stone snake with a walking plant."

"Is it that easy to defeat him?"

"Hey, did you notice the level of his Pokemon? it's 15."

"Yes, how did his Pokemon gain so many levels?"

"Maybe he didn't level up his starter Pokemon and chose to level up other Pokemon that he caught."

"Where did he catch that plant thingy? I want one as well."

"Me Too, it's so strong, even the <Rock Tomb> move didn't do anything to it."

Me defeating Brock's first Pokemon so easily shocked most of the players present. As they kept on talking among themselves, I chose to ignore them and focus on the battle.

After Onix fainted, Brock sent out his Geodude next.

Bellsprout Lv. 15 <-2 Speed> - 23/41

Geodude Lv. 10 - 100%

Since, similar to Onix, Geodude is also a rock-type, I chose to use <Vine Whip> but because of Bellsprout's already low speed, Geodude performed its move first.

<Rock Tomb>, which was not very effective, caused Bellsprout's speed to fall even more.

Bellsprout Lv. 15 <-3 Speed> - 10/41

Geodude Lv. 10 - 100%

<Vine Whip>, super effective, took almost all of Geodude's HP if it was not for his <Sturdy > ability, it wouldn't have survived.

[The foe's Geodude hung on using <Sturdy >]

Bellsprout Lv. 15 <-3 Speed> - 10/41

Geodude Lv. 10 - 3.4%

I knew that Bellsprout wouldn't be able to survive the next <Rock Tomb> attack, so whatever move I used would be irrelevant since Bellsrpout's move would be performed after Geodude's.

Geodude used <Rock Tomb>, which took the last bit of HP from Bellsprout.

[Bellsprout fainted]

"Oh well, He's over now. Since his plant thingy has fainted, I doubt his other Pokemon will be able to survive against Geodude."

"GG, it was a good try."

"GG" x7

Ignoring the chatter of the Mobs, I looked at the third screen, which was prompting me to choose the next Pokemon.

I chose to switch to Charmander.

Charmander Lv. 15 - 39/39

Geodude Lv. 10 - 3.4%

"Impossible!!!"

"How is that possible? His starter Pokemon is also level 15."

"How did he level up his Pokemon so quickly? My starter is only level 9."

'With the eternal grind, what else?' I had a smug look on my face after hearing from other players.

Similar to how rock-type Pokemon are weak to grass-type, they are also weak to steel-type, and my Charmander happens to know the move <Metal Claw>, which is a steel-type move.

It didn't matter since Geodude only had 1 HP left, so whatever move I used, as long as it had an effect, would knock out Geodude.

I chose <Metal Claw>, but...

[The foe's Geodude avoided the attack]

Whyyy....?

After avoiding Charmander's <Metal Claw>, Geodude used its <Rock Tomb> attack, which was super effective, taking 50% HP.

Charmander Lv. 15 - 18/39

Geodude Lv. 10 - 3.4%

Alright, It happens. No need to panic.

Again, I chose <Metal Claw>, this time successfully hitting Geodude, knocking it out.

[Foe's Geodude fainted]

[Charmander gained 162 EXP. Points]

[You have defeated Leader Brock]

"I took you for granted, and so I lost," said Brock.

"As Proof of your Victory, I confer on you this." said Brock as he took out a small badge from his pocket and handed it over to me.

"The official Pokemon League Boulder Badge" said Brock.

[You have received the Boulder Badge from Brock]

[You have received ₽1152 for winning]

The badge in my hand turned white and vanished.

[The Boulder Badge has been stored in your PokeDEX.]

[Your Trainer card has been updated.]

[You have completed a Hidden Quest]

[Please check it for more details.]

Before I could see what this hidden quest was, Brock said.

"Wait, Take this with you." he handed me a CD-shaped object, which I assumed was a TM.

[You received TM39 from Brock]

"A TM, Technical Machine, contains a technique for Pokemon. Using a TM teaches the move it contains to a Pokemon."

"A TM is good for only one use. So, when you use one, pick the Pokemon carefully."

Taking the TM from Brock, I put it inside my backpack.

"Anyways.... TM39 contains <Rock Tomb>. It hurls boulders at the foe and lowers its speed" said Brock.

After saying that, Brock returned to his original place at the top of the Boulder.

"HE DID IT"

"He beat the Gym leader."

"Bro, teach me how you beat him."

Players erupted into chaos after seeing me beat Brock.

They were so focused on me that they forgot where they were and started making their way to me.

All of them were stopped by the red barrier, and the unlucky one who was at the front of the crowd was now facing Camper Liam while others were added to the Battle Queue.

"Shit, I forgot about Camper Liam."

"We need to get out of the battle area before Camper Liam defeats his opponent and another one of us is forced to battle him next."

The players were not able to reach me because none of them had defeated Camper Liam yet.

'Saved by the forced battle' I thought as I made a sigh of relief.

The players were reluctant to leave as they wanted to talk to me, but the fear of <Rock Tomb> made them think twice.

After seeing the HP of the challenging player's Pokemon dropping, all the players ran out of the gym as fast as they could.

Taking that chance, I too started running out of the Gym and blending into the crowd while facing down.

The good thing was that no one recognized me as they were not expecting that I would run out of the gym with them.

No one also looked back, or they would have noticed that no one was standing by Brock anymore.

After coming out of the Gym, I made my way back to the Pokemon Center to get my Pokemon healed. Since most of the players were in the gym and had their Pokemon in perfect condition.

The <Wait Time> was only 1 minute. While my Pokemon were healing, a streak of light landed in the Pokemon Center, and a player came out of it.

The Poke Balls of the player flew out of his body and into the hands of Nurse Joy.

'That player must have had all his Pokemon fainted during a battle.' I thought.

After collecting my healed Pokemon, I was about to exit the Pokemon Center when the crowd of players who were at the gym came into the Pokemon Center.
