3 Chapter 3
Amber's smile slowly disappears as soon as she opened the door of the meeting room when she saw the man in the middle. She froze where she's at and paled at the sight of this immaculate man.
She didn't expect that they will see each other. The universe is laughing at her again and smacking down her hopes and dreams. She thought, she's mistaken about the place, that the building was owned by this man and not the husband of Rosalie.
That the building owned by Nathan was on the other side and not here. She wished she's wrong. She hopes and crossed her fingers.
But no. The receptionist downstairs expected her and the secretary that greeted her as she gets out of the elevator pointed her here.
This huge building has a modern design that made to intimidate everyone who does not work inside.
The receptionists downstairs are all smile and accommodating while upstairs everyone has straight back, slick posture and… shiny. Everybody here is beautiful that it blinded your eyes.
God, what am I entering into? She thought.
Amber wore her most decent clothes since her father's funeral or supposed dead. She needed to fake her father's death so that she has time to look for the money and search for dmmed him.
Even though she had on the cheapest clothes, zero make-up, and no expensive accessories, she didn't look out of place.
But in front of this man, it seems like everyone is trash. Why is he still so good looking? Did he cheat time? That should be illegal.
Amber noticed movements out of the corner of her eyes, it was a small movement but enough to make her look at that small figure's way.
It was a child. My godchild who owns this building and will save me from the debt and everything else. She scans him with her eyes brimming like she won the jackpot.
He looks a bit of Nate but more of Rose.
Amber eyes stung red. Her tears almost fell in happiness, she tried to come near the child "Hello—"
"Ros, go take him." The man in the middle interrupted her. The guy named Ros, probably his assistant, took the child out of the room, leaving only her, the man and seems the lawyer alone.
"Finally, you're here." Said Gio, the man in the middle who looks like a boss which should not, because the child should be and also me, Amber.
"Of course." She looks down on him with her nose up as she sits across him. Confident, could be seen in her action, like she's the only person that has the final say in the room. She asks with a raised brow "And what are you doing here?"
The man only smiled at her as if some secret was kept but didn't answer. He let the person beside him speak.
"Greetings Miss Lo, I'm Lucas Sia a friend and the lawyer of Mr. and Mrs. Ko." The lawyer offers his hand and shakes hers.
After the formalities, the lawyer gets into the agenda. Amber as the legal guardian and Gio as an audience.
"I Lucas… the lawyer… we're here to discuss…"
Amber nodded at what the lawyer was saying as if she's listening. Today is the formalities for the transferring of the property from the "Ko's" to her for safekeeping. She just needs to sign the document and everything will be alright. She'll take care of the child while she gets the money. Everything is in the plan.
Her minds already fly off track to the things she will do when she got the company.
The lawyer discussed the long list of name and places of property that was owned by the two. She smiled to herself when she heard how many it was.
The bills, her sister's tuition, her mother's condition and the loan shark that kept her awake at night will be gone forever. She's praying praises for the lady luck for clinging to her for today.
Gosh, she can't help but feel warm at how her heart beating.
"…the transferring of the sole custody of Nathan Ko and Rosalie Marie Ko's child, Gabrielle Cale Ko, from Miss Amber Louise Lo to Mr. Sergio Francis Sy…"
The lawyer read the documents in his hands for formalities and practically his job. When he was done, he passed the documents to Amber and signed then to Sergio, when Amber noticed something amiss to the way the lawyer look at her.
She looks at the expressionless Gio across him who's in the middle of signing the document when instinctively, she took his pen and grab the document on the way.
"What are you doing?" Gio asks "I'm not finished yet."
"You!!"
"What?" he raised his eyebrow as if he's not doing something illegal.
"What are you doing!?" she bursts. This is her last hope. Last. She wouldn't let it go down to drainage. "This is mine! You thought I wouldn't notice, do you!? Why are you transferring everything under your name!?"
The man in question brows twitches at her brazen words she just uttered. "Didn't you read the letter?" He looked at the envelope in her hands then back to her, "It dated 2 months ago, if failed to comply from the stated date of appearance of said person, the second godparent person can take the first godparent's place." He calmly preached the exact word of the documents on Amber's hands.
She didn't read the whole document. She thought that it was transferring of the inheritance from the child to her.
Who wouldn't have thought that it was different from what she understood!?.
She looks at the man that has a smile plastered on his perfect face. Dmn this man, is he still harboring some hatred towards her!?
Amber look at the document she received, as she read her complexion becoming pale by the words she reads.
She had to admit that it was her stupidity that she's in this embarrassing situation but she didn't know! She didn't know that there's a letter 2 months ago! If it wasn't for the second letter, she wouldn't even know about this inheritance less this godchild of her!
How can you trust your child to a person who didn't contact you for six years!? Who would do that?
Amber knows exactly knew how Rosalie's brain works.
"Give me the papers." He grabs the paper from Amber, but she won't let go.
"Let it go."
"No."
She won't let go. This is her last chance if this failed everything that she worked hard for will turn to ashes. Rosalie understands this, that's why she hurriedly agreed to her that night.
"No way, I'll let this go!" She grabs the paper forcefully and rips it apart. Silence fell inside the room as the pieces of paper fall to the floor. "This is mine!"
"You!" Now its Gio's turn to be surprised. He shot her dagger looks at her. Amber raised her chin as if she won. Then, Gio suddenly laughed. "Hahaha!!"
Lucas looks at his client than to the woman, asking in confusion what is funny and why this serious man is now laughing suddenly.
"Haha... you." Gio wipes the tear at the side of that his eyes. "Do you think that you are that important?"
Amber frowned at him in anger.
"If you don't want to sign, I can force you to do so." He straightened his coat and stand up, "you don't have anything anymore, who do you think will win between us?" He starts to walk towards her, instinctively she steps back and it wasn't because of the scary face he's giving to her. Or the fact that he's emitting heat around the room. It was because she knew when Gio come near to her, she might be caught.
"Don't you remember how they had that accident?"
"That's…" she opened her mouth and close, wanting to say something but can't. "… an accident…"
"Tell that to yourself," he said as he passed by her.
Amber remains frozen there. She can't rebuke his words.
She called Rosalie that day, there's a storm when a group of ruffian ransacked their apartment looking for their hiding father. When they didn't find him, they destroy everything.
She closed her eyes to calm herself. Her trembling hands from that memory was tight claps together. She didn't notice how cold the room was.
That man, he knows where to hit sore point, she cursed Gio inside.
In the business world, 'Sy' is one of the top tycoons. And the other is the Ko's, Rosalie's husband that happened to be the child's father. So imagine Gio taking the company of Nathan, he becomes the most powerful in the business world.
Amber, as a big fan of money somehow can smell it.
What should she do? Would she seduce the man and force him into bed? But Gio is surrounded by people, if she has to do it, she needs a big amount of money. Even if she can, Amber has morals. Although she's a big fan of money, more than anything, that's still illegal.
And it would be impossible. He hates her more than anyone could imagine. After all, SHE broke up with him when he still starting.
Did I mention that I know Gio before?
Not only she knows about him, but she was also his ex-girlfriend. Wait it was fiancee. Amber is Gio's ex-fiancee and she broke up with him because she can't smell money from him.
