2 The Planar Realms

Light flashed, and a tunnel made out of a combination 0s and 1s slowly transformed into a tunnel made out of pure energy the further away from Earth it got. A purifying light flashed, removing all memories from the soul.

A device hidden within Carter's soul went to work, counteracting the light and protecting his memories. Time passed, and the purifying light went away as the tunnel changed again to an interwoven matrix made out of 0s and 1s.

A flash of light, and Carter's soul left the tunnel and was sucked by a gigantic vacuum. Forced towards the planet that'd appeared below him.

When Carter came too, he was in the body of a 12 year old boy. Groaning in pain, he sat up as he grabbed his head and memories flooded through him. The boy had been left in the orphanage as a baby with nothing but the clothes on his back. Carter's life in the orphanage had been bland, he'd learned to read and write fairly quickly but otherwise was middle of the pack in every other aspect. When people came to scout possible warriors for the City Lord, they completely ignored his existence not even bothering to talk to him.

On Altara, when everyone turns twelve they undergo what is called the awakening. Your body changes drastically as the system opens up and changes your attributes. Everyone starts out with at least 10 points in all the attributes, but the lucky few receive something extra.

"You're awake?" A stern female voice said as she pushed open the door and examined Carter closely.

"Yes, mistress." Carter said automatically, as if his body had been forced to call this woman mistress it's entire life. Carter immediately hated it, he'd never allowed anyone other than his father to have any power over him.

"Good, you have a day to get used to your new body and leave. Since you've awakened you're now considered an adult and we don't have the time, money, or room to continue caring for you." The mistress said, turning to leave.

Carter was immediately incensed. According to law, orphans had 6 months to get on their feet before being kicked out of the orphanage, if this woman thought she'd get away with this...

Before he could stand up to yell at her, the door slammed behind her and Carter sighed as he rethought his actions. He was new here, and completely without any support system. He couldn't afford to bring attention to himself yet. However, given his abilities he found it difficult to believe that he couldn't deal with that lady in the future.

Sitting back down on the bed, Carter closed his eyes with an evil smirk on his face as he imagined the ways he'd deal with her and thought "Status". The evil smirk disappeared the blue screen appeared in front of him and he couldn't help clapping his hands in excitement.

-> Status

-> Name: Carter

-> Race: Human

-> Fame: 0

-> Infamy: 0

-> Base Profession: (Not Chosen)

-> Alignment: Neutral

-> Titles: Chosen (Reincarnation Passive)

-> HP 100/100 (Constitution x 10)

-> MP 150/150 (Intelligence x 10 + Willpower/2 x 10)

-> Attributes

-> Strength (10)

-> Agility (10)

-> Constitution (10)

-> Intelligence (10)

-> Willpower (10)

-> Free Attribute Points (0)

-> Affinities(Locked)

-> Skills: Reading level 3 (54%); Writing level 2 (38%)

-> Soul Skills: Reincarnation(Passive); Hand to Hand Savant (Passive)

Everything was basically as he remembered them being in the game. However, he'd never heard Soul Skills before so he clicked on it.

-> Soul Skills: When you become incredibly skilled at something it can sometimes leave a mark on your soul. No matter how many times you are reincarnated you will retain those skills.

"What!" Carter said in surprise, moving over to click on his two skills.

-> Reincarnation(Passive) - As a Chosen of the Planar Realms your soul is locked into the Planar Realms, unable to be reincarnated into other dimensions unless the administrator removes your status. You will retain your memories each time you reincarnate inside the Planar Realms.

-> Hand to Hand Savant(Passive) - Through multiple lifetimes you have shown incredible skill fighting hand to hand. Increases proficiency and experience gain in Hand to Hand techniques and martial arts by 100%.

Instantly, Carter moved to his settings and placed the title "Chosen" and the "Reincarnation(Passive)" on hidden. If someone had a high enough appraisal level they could see through it, but someone that powerful would never be found in such a backwater.

Clicking on the base profession, a massive list appeared in front of him and he gasped. In the game, players all started with the Peasant base profession and slowly upgraded it over time. The base professions where important because they were the foundation of your character. You can only raise your base profession to level 10, but can continue to upgrade it over time. Only after reaching level 10 in your base profession could you choose a class. He'd figured that his only choice would be Peasant like in the game but was surprised to find he had a few others.

-> Peasant: +1 attribute per level

-> Commoner: (Available) Most common class, +1 attribute per level, +5% learning rate for all skills (25% at max level)

-> Noble: (Currently unavailable) +2 attributes per level, +5% Charisma modifier (25% at max level)

-> Scholar: (Available) +1 attribute, +1 intelligence per level, +10% reading speed, +5% learning rate for all skills (50% reading speed, 25% learning rate at max level)

-> Hero: (Only available to peasant who performs special action, limit 10 at any time) +3 attributes per level, +25% learning speed, + 25% all attribute modifier

-> Dragonblood (Can profession change under special circumstances) + 3 attributes per level, +200% HP and MANA pool, + 1 Spell Power.

.....

Without hesitating, Carter chose Scholar as his base profession. It was the 2nd upgrade available in the game and important to any who wanted to pursue magic.

His status instantly changed as he gained 1 intelligence and 1 free attribute point. Deciding to leave it alone for now, Carter searched his room for any belongings. All he found was a box, and putting his hand on it the system dinged a message.

-> Beginner package discovered. Open?

Immediately thinking yes, Carter grinned as items started appearing throughout the room.

Picking them up one by one he found a Beginner Tunic, Beginner Boots, Beginner Pants, Rusted Copper Dagger, Incomplete Dimensional Bag, and 10 Silver.

The clothing all provided 1 defense and was enchanted to fit anyone which was very useful considering that he'd gained 3 inches and 20 pounds over night and none of Carter's clothes fit anymore. The rusted Copper Dagger dealt 1-3 damage per attack and had a 10% chance to cause a bleed effect, however it only had 2 out of 10 durability so it'd break quick.

What Carter was truly interested in was the Incomplete Dimensional Bag. Picking it up, he immediately said, "Appraise" and smiled widely as he read the message.

-> Item: Incomplete Dimensional Bag

-> Item Description: Dimensional Bag made by master enchanter, he was interrupted in the process of making the bag turning it into an incomplete product. Can complete the product over time to increase properties.

->Item Properties: 10x10 bag that will hold stacks of up to 50 of an item. Soul binds on equip and is impossible to steal from. Can be upgraded.

After equipping the bag it turned into a millions of tiny motes of light before entering his body and turning into an icon on the top left of his screen. Clicking on it, a 10x10 box appeared and Carter put the silver and dagger in before putting on his clothes and leaving the orphanage with a giant grin on his face.

The harpy of a mistress was not far from his room, waiting with a vicious expression on her face to yell at Carter when he complained about being kicked out of the orphanage illegally. To her complete surprise, Carter just walked by with a smile on his face and said goodbye to the few people he knew there before leaving.

Now, he was happy the bitch had kicked him out. It would've been difficult to explain his decision to leave early, but with the 10 silver he had more than enough money to get started. Not to mention the look on her face when he just walked out with a happy smile on his face made him laugh.
