38 Chapter 38: First combat class (1)

"Wait… How dare you refuse my offer! Don't you want to be strong? Don't you want to be the strongest?" The dusk demon was infuriated by Zero's nonchalant attitude.

"Of course I want to become the strongest… who doesn't want that? But I'm not willing to sell my soul and pledge allegiance to a lesser being… what the heck, I don't want to be ruled by an E rated magic beast… In the end, I will become the strongest, even without your help… all I need is time… more time" Zero snorted disdainfully.

Swoosh!

The Dusk demon moved so fast that it appeared right in front of Zero's triple-layered turtle shell barrier and frowned.

"There are lots of things you don't know about your past and without that knowledge, you will never reach your goals…. Have you ever asked yourself why all four of you do not have last names? have you ever asked how the four of you were born even though you had no mothers?" The dusk demon spoke slowly.

Upon hearing those words, Zero froze, rooted to that spot. Numerous thoughts flowed into his little head and the more he thought about it, the more confused he got. For some reason, he just couldn't focus when he tried thinking about things like this, and whenever he tried too hard he got a terrible headache.

The dusk demon's points were valued, why didn't they have last names or even middle names?

Why didn't their parents tell them about their mothers?

And finally, why have such thoughts eluded them since then? Why haven't they thought of something like this in the past?

"Arrrgh! What is this?" Zero breathing was uneven and beads of sweat rolled down his forehead. He felt like his head was been smashed against a wall, the headache was too severe and it only stopped when he stopped thinking of these things.

"Hehehe… You will get to know in time… From now on, I will contact you more often… I will aid you in your cultivation… Don't worry too much about my demands… You will find out its much easier to fulfill than you think" The Dusk demon's turned into a cloud of white smoke, vanishing even before Zero could speak up.

........................…..

Zero's eyes yanked open and he took a deep breath in. For some reason, his head hurt badly and his eye felt heavy, he felt extremely exhausted.

"This must be a side effect of the fantasy leaf and Cyran soul orb" Zero muttered.

He turned his attention to the other three who woke up as well with a dissatisfied look on their faces.

"What's wrong… the effects weren't as good as you thought?" Zero directed the question at Dan who seemed to be the most annoyed in the group.

"The effects are good… even better than that but the duration is too short…. I was at a critical point before I was forcefully pulled out… what about you/" Dan rubbed his forehead and asked

"Me? Nothing much, I tried a few things… focused on using the reinforcement special ability to strengthen my body" Zero lied. He chose to keep his discoveries a secret for now.

..............................…..

The team spent a week at home resting and missing classes. Since the theory classes aren't exactly mandatory to attend, they chose to use that time to recover from whatever injuries they sustained in their little battle with the E rated magic beast. The institution was aware of this just like every other person in the country, so they chose to ignore these four and let them recover.

The group received a letter from their homeroom guardian, Miss Lane. Apparently combat classes are mandatory since it's used to grade the strength of the students which will help them make the right pick when competing with other institutions. Of course, considering the condition of the four, they were not asked to participate in the class, instead, they were asked to play the part of observers.

As far as Miss Lane and the higher-ranking authorities of the institution were concerned, anyone capable of standing firm when faced with a magic beast is already qualified to be a guardian, regardless of the magic beasts rating. The fact that Zero and his group fearlessly challenged a magic beast fought to the very end and won, showed just how capable and strong they are. A combat class filled with kids who are yet to experience the oppressive aura of a magical beast is not up to their standards.

Contrary to the expectations of the institution, Zero and the other three were thrilled by the message. They were eager to test their strength and find out how much they have improved. No matter what the world may think, they are still humans and can't exude the same oppressive aura's magic beasts can. The elite class is filled with youths their age with incredible potential, won't it be dumb for them to miss out on this opportunity?
